  • Best Year Ever Episode #1
This is going to be the best teacher year I have ever had and this is the first episode.
Here is how I'm planning to make the most out of my classroom this year. I try to make my classroom a place that makes the students feel comfortable and inspires them to make something out of nothing every day.

you seem like such a good man. coming from a high school student, i love that you genuinely care about your class. there are so many bad teachers who aren't concerned about their kids' educations or have lost their desire to make things fun and nice. the good ones definitely cut through the bad ones and give me hope.

Thanks for such a great comment! I agree with you HS teachers need to remember the students are still kids that like to have fun & laugh, and it makes the learning much more appealing!

I definitely will subscribe to this! Gosh! This has been the first ever male teacher I saw on TH-cam doing classroom makeover and I love that I learned a lot of ideas and get a lot of inspiration for my 8th grade classroom. Thumbs up, Sir! 🥰

Love that..."Do not let perfect be the enemy of good.". Perfectionist , former teacher, now homeschool mom here. Love seeing what amazing things you guys are doing out there! Our entire family is reading a book called "Present over Perfect" right now. It's a great read for all of us perfectionists! Thanks for what you do in and out of the classroom!

Seriously loving your room Reynolds, teacher envy. Wanted to update you on something, I really wanted to use your 'write a letter to yourself' idea and adapted for my students. I designed it so I could check out where they were at and my days, I was blown away. I found out some useful information that will hopefully help me reach my students on a deeper level. You're reaching different people/ninjas across the globe Reynolds, thanks! (As well as the teacher who inspired you to do it! What a beautiful cycle! 😊)

Totally lol when the painting dude popped up. I used to watch him as a kid. Teachers are resourceful. I can just imagine those two trekking down the street with the table and bar stool.

Right?! teachers need to be resourceful when most schools are generally so short on resources! HAHA Bob Ross is on Netflix and my daughter used to watch before bed because he's so soothing!

You have the same shelves I built for my two year old! Your reasoning is exactly why I built them like that! I wanted him to see the covers, I wanted them to look appealing for both him and I. So we want to walk up and grab one!!! I also put them at his level, you can’t believe how often he wakes up early and I hear him flipping pages and describing what he sees or repeating lines he’s memorized. LOVE that you recognize the appeal of making things look good.

I totally agree on your room being an ongoing process. I never feel like my room is finished and I'm okay with that. I also notice things that I spend tons of time on in the beginning of the year, end up coming down and being replaced with something else.

I'm looking forward to seeing how you use a word wall with older kids. I have hesitated to implement it in my middle school classroom because I felt like my ideas of how to use it were "too elementary." So I am excited for fresh ideas.
Also, love how you said you get caught up reconnecting with teachers and your room isn't ready. That is always me too! We've been back in school for two weeks now and I feel like my classroom is finally approaching "visitor ready." :)

You are such an encouragement to me as a new teacher! I started my new teaching job (teaching 9th graders) 2 weeks into school (August 21... Eclipse day) and have finally found time to put some things up to decorate.
I wanted to ask you two things, if you have time: 1. How do you balance school and family/friends/church? And 2. I have a teacher who wants me to do things as much like her as possible and an administrator with tons of ideas that says for me to try many things she suggests. I don't want to step on anyone's toes. How do you deal with the politics of school like this?

Omg I wish you where my high school teacher then maybe I wouldn't have fallen asleep soo much in my classes! All the classes I had, all the rooms were like empty! maybe 3 posters and a tv. That was it!! The classrooms where soo boring! One of my classmates got into it with the teacher cuz he wouldn't teach anything fun! I remember all our work was out of the textbooks maybe once in a while we would get to do a project! The only classes most of us like was sciences. the music classes was like all Disney music and just old music. Sports sucked because if you got 5th period pe or a sport and you would have to run close to a half a mile to get to the buildings that have classrooms. Most of us got detentions cuz we didn't make it to our class in 3 mins.
