      eh, I think there's some things which could change. Like, basically all of the compendium teams could either completely go and their respective bespoke teams take their place, or be heavily revised. Also, please god just give me inches back. I think that's realistically the only thing that I'd really need from a new edition, just get rid of the dumb symbols.

      It's definitely top 3 in their current range (I'd personally put it at 2), but I wouldn't mind seeing adjustments to Visibility, Combat, and terrain traversal.

      Here is what I think they could add for next edition that would be an improvement:
      Better compendium teams, I feel like some compendium teams have been left to dry as unplayable in Kill Team, including some factions that fit the fantasy of kill team. Namely Deathwatch, Grey Knights, and Custodes, are factions defined by small elite actions and are both not competitively balanced, and worse not fun. Additionally since a bespoke box is likely never going to make too much sense for the tyranids(the best bespoke box kill teams are made up of a diverse set of units that doesn't make a ton of sense for the tyranids) they need a good set of rules either from the compendium or white dwarf.
      Maybe a way to run larger units. In warcry you can run some larger units and your opponent gets bonuses to compensate. I feel like maybe some dreadnought sized units could get added in as an optional rule. Kill Team is a good way to onboard a faction but what if what you like about a faction is their vehicles? Give the opponent some additional tools to deal with the vehicles/monsters when they are around(you get a set number of points for dealing with a large unit based on said large unit, you spend them on things like krak grenades, off map anti-vehicle artillery, single use rocket launchers, etc. all themed to the army you are playing as much as possible). Obviously this will not work on into the dark and presumably other expansions they have planned but I think it might be a fun optional ruleset they could add. Also a battle that is just a kill team faction fighting a knight might be fun.
      Additionally the way wyrmblade deals with hero units I think could also be added to other factions. You spend 2 units on your list to get a character. Might be hard to balance for some of the more elite factions but the semi-elite and horde kill teams can probably have it. I do think generally the way Hierotek Circle runs it might be the best way, as it's a faction built around using a cryptek top to bottom, but it's a good way to get some cool and unique models out on the table. Commissars for guard, farseers for aeldari, a painboy for orks. All these sound fun to me.

  • @ShadowCoH316
    @ShadowCoH316 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    Kill Team probably doesnt need a new edition per se. I think KT needs a universal rules update where certain rules are streamlined or made to make more sense. The setup phase, line of sight, cover, and obscurement, are all universal rules that could use re-writes for the sake of comprehension. People I know who've played for yeah STILL get those wrong, including me. It would be nice to get another year so that the forgotten factions could get something unique (Tyranids, Grey Knights, Custodes, World Eaters, probably a couple more).
    A whole new edition would mean throwing out a lot of the hard work they already out in to the existing teams, so something that just refines the base rules would be better. Each team has a lot going on and losing whole teams to somrthing like what happened to warcry would be a tragedy.

  • @bass.5822
    @bass.5822 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

    Kill Team really doesn't need a new edition. GW could streamline the rules a bit and make them easier to understand. I don't think it's a big deal to send the Compendium teams into retirement. There are now so many bespoke teams that everyone can find something they like to play in KT. The stupidest thing would really be to throw away the current, now well-established rules and do something completely new with the system.

  • @rutherfordappraisal258

    I just don't see how a new edition of KT would increase sales.
    Since the bespoke teams just come in one box you can't change what models you need for the team.
    Which teams are the best already changes with each season's terrain rules, so meta chasers already have regular reasons to shift to different teams.
    Maybe they'll reword LoS, adjust the flight rule and switch to inches, just so they have a reason to call it a new edition, but other than that I don't see a monetary incentive to shake everything up at the moment.

    Edit : checking ot the timeline again I miscalculated the 8th edition and 9th edition, with krieg vs kommando seamless transition make it hard to notice. However I still stand that the current kill team is more easily to support than warcry since what mostly additional team is either upgraded or filling the gap of faction that GW hadn't filled in years compared to AoS bloated and quirky warband

    Reading the comments, I'm absolutely shocked by how many people like Kill Team '21. It was KT'18 that brought me into the Warhammer hobby, but KT'21 was, and continues to be, for me personally, a trash fire for so many design and development reasons. I'm glad people like this version, but I'm really surprised.

    I dont think that they will get a complete new edition this year. The whole season thing works too gppd for them and in terms of sales act as an "mini-edition" anyways. People buy rulebooks, terrains and the new models. Without that much work put into it (comparing to creating a complete bew game).

    Maybe the next edition can introduce a Deep Jungle terrain, so more movement options can be applied.
    We can see the Jump-pack teams Auspex mentioned, but also terrain specialists like catachans, or tyranid infiltrators like von ryans or liktors.
    i actually dont play nearly enough KT to say wether or not a new edition is needed. Though the starter boxes are always good value, so i am all for it ;-P

    the reality is they arent going to come up with better rules. just stripped down rules to continually add sprawl. i dont know where this notion comes in that you cant use all your old books that youve invested in already, because truthfully old rules with a little balanced home-ruling is better than whatever they are going to come up with. its not like when you want to play a game of RISK or something your like no we cant play that, the rules are outdated. as if it was a video game with an unsupported server.

    If the new edition is flyers, Im hoping to see new necrons and possibly will get a full jetpack hearthkyn unit this time around, Id assume around the time LoV get their second wave. Also pretty certain blood angels will get a jump assault marines KT as an upgrade sprue. Id assume Nids havent gotten one yet, if the new edition is flyers, then that means gargoyles should be getting a refresh. GW not wording the whole Warcry fiasco correctly really bothered me and actually might have been deliberate to increase sales. I knew what they were trying to say but to many people it seemed like they were on the verge of canning Warcry when in actuality they were just removing them from the very bloated StD range, same with the underworlds team.

    it could be fun to see a new version of kill team where they take parts from the mechanicus game, and convert cp points to a more basic resource, like to empower attacks and unigue powers each operater have. Fill a killzone with more objectives to move around to, one kind for victory points, and another to generate cp's it would put a cool strategical dilemma on the players, how to focus on team power rather than flat points and vise versa.
    you could build your kill team around spenders, and generators.
    Though, maybe it would get to advanced?

    I miss the old style of Kill Team roster-building. The current one feels very restrictive - like, here's your 5-10 guys, you can build 2-3 of them in one of two different ways and that's it for your customisation.
    Things like Heretic Astartes from Compendium were neat because you had flexibility - cultist swarm, elite marines or a mix of both? But then the rest of the "pre-built" kill teams just didn't have that same magic. As much as it would be unrealistic, it would be very cool to have a Marines kill team that had a mix of gravis, phobos and primaris, or a tau kill team that had a couple of auxiliaries in it.

    • @darko-man8549

    • @kloudknight7511

      As good as it would be to have flexible teams, it definitely cuts people out of playing Kill Team budget wise if we were to go back to the previous team building method. Going from purchasing a team that is at most $120 USD (Compendium and White Dwarf builds) to teams that cost as much an army in regular 40K, especially if you want to have all possible options available.

    • @sleeplessknight99

    • @TheVeeBeaT
      @TheVeeBeaT หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kloudknight7511 I don't necessarily agree with this. You're assuming that people build a team all at once from new boxes. There is nothing stopping someone from starting with a single box of troops that would build a limited (but still flexible enough) roster. From there, at most you would have 4-5 types of model per faction that would be suitable for kill team, which would be *at most* 4-5 different boxes, and even then that is if you wanted to run every single option.
      A single box would still give you a functional kill team as a starting point, which you could then branch out with later if you wanted to. It's the same as building any army - part of the joy of hobbying is collecting over time. People who buy entire armies at once are not the most common type of player.

I feel like I need a secret decoder ring to figure out what the book is even trying to say, and I see *constant* arguments about how the rules are supposed to work.
    GW needs to do a complete re-write of the rulebook. Even if they keep the rules the same they need to clean up the wording and made the book readable. It would be much better to go back to the 2018 Killteam rules; they were actually well written.

    One thing GW will want to do is understand whether people are buying kill teams for kill team itself or for 40k. There's currently no way for them to know. So i do wonder if they will want to have much more bespoke teams in the future that can't be used in 40k. But then if that would torpedo sales it might not be the most sensible decision. Here's hoping the current flexibility is kept....🤞🏻
