Personally as a German I really hope we sent Ryk! I am afraid that we sent Max Mutzke cuz he is famous or Marie Reim since ppl just want Schlager. Ryk is the only song with a chance of top 10 if staged correctly!
Thanks for that information - I just watched his ‘You and I’ entry that you mentioned and he definitely has the vocal chops to slay! The only question is whether the Germany public will have the taste to send him!
I am a native English speaker and ryk doesnt have a thick accent when he sings in English to my ear. he sings very clearly all the words. I really hope he wins the national final btw as he could potentially win the whole thing this year
I am an English speaker and I don't think RYK's accent is bad at all. You are the 1st reactor to mention it. The mix needs to be fixed because his voice (which is the main event) needs to be highlighted. I would give it more of an orchestral instrumentation like he had on "You and I" in 2018, which I thought was magnificent.
Ryk’s song gives me vibes of a blend of Michael Schulte (GER2018) and Sam Ryder (UK2022) which is a very good thing. I really hope he can sing live and he is Germany’s only real hope right now (with one undisclosed pre-selection NF song left to go).
Like how you give your commentary btw. Some people have a hard time separating personal taste with what would be competitive or strategic/best for the country when they do their ranking so I found it refreshing that you were able to do so and also give the non-competitive songs their flowers even if they wouldn't work on the ESC stage.
@@emdove I honestly think everyone will send crazy overtop cha cha cha wannabe rock numbers this year Bland dance pop Sweden has it covered and most countries try to do similar Ballads Italy does it every year and France has a great one. Issak and Ryk would already be in disavantage
Ryk is my winner. But I think the audience will go for Marie Reim (her mum Michelle came 8th in 2001) or Max Mutzke because they are quite known. Btw, Max came 8th in 2004 in Istanbul. Stefan Raab did a casting show and he won there and then the German pre-selection with 90 % of all votes. I´m a bit scared that we pick the wrong act like Max. It´s Ryk or it´s over for us I think for having a great result! And we need that so badly...
Tbh i think out of these songs, Ryk is Germany's only option. He will stand out. The rest is, as you say a few times, not what Germany needs. Everything is just either too bland or too amateurish. I don't know what the German broadcaster is thinking.
I’m usually quite bothered by thick german accents, with ryk it doesn’t bother me at all, even when listening out for it (weirdly enough it does listing back to his 2018 entry) . I don’t think it will be too much of an issue for a mostly non native audience
I definitely wouldn't send the schlager. Coming from zero schlager reference point, it just comes off sounding like a generic dance pop to me so I feel it will flop. I'd also avoid Katze because it is just too monotonous. My pick is Oh Boy, Undream You or if not those two, Always on the Run (even though it's generic because I like his voice so I'm biased lol but maybe the live will give it a little something something.) On Ryk's English, I personally thought it sounded fine and none of my American friends had any issue with it sounding off so I don't think it will be an issue.
My top list would be: 1. Leona - I like the intimate, quiet feel of this song and can really relate to the lyrics. Do you know that Elsie Bay has written parts of the song? 2. Ryk - Ballad with great voice and orchestration. 3. Bodine Monet - Good ESC Song but probably to safe. By the way: She is from the Netherlands. 4. Galant - I like the concept of this song. With the right staging and a little bit of revamp this could go "Konstrakta". 5. Isaak - Very safe and mainstream. It sounds to me like I've heard a song like this a thousand times before. 6. Max Mutzke - Great voice, boring song 7. NintyNine - Sound like every song you hear on the radio 8. Marie Reim - Schlager ... what more can I say? Even if I don't like it, I would also be curious to see how things would go for a song like this at the ESC.
since u wondered when we sent the last Schlager. it was 2001 with Michelle, whom his her Mother btw. Michael Mutzke where already there in 2004. But my feeling is that we either go with Marie Reim, to get us out of the meloncholy box or we go with Ryk to break the radio friendly nothingness. Sadly in the end the radios in Germany are a part of Jury so, they may favour songs they can play.
I don't think that Ryk is an interest option to send. For me it is my first Eurovision 2024 Winner Alert!!! This guy must represent Germany. If he does not make it, I think Bodine should make a top 10... think Lithuania last year with a much generic approach and made it to n. 11. Bodine sounds fresher.
to be honest, I actually don't really find the overall line-up weak, unlike many other people. I still manage to find some faves, especially Bodine Monet, Ryk, Leona and even Marie Reim.
Das wird wieder nichts. Diese Songs können nicht punkten auf der internationalen ESC Bühne. Die letzten Jahre grüssen. Leider nichts dazugelernt Deutschland
As a German, I'm once more embarrassed by this selection. No top 10 material at all, again. Even last year had better songs in the selection. Not that they would have done much better, but at least it was a more interesting selection. Ryk would probably be the least bad, but that's still no top 10 material, not even left side of the table. Everything else is already dead on arrival. Also, very disappointing that we only have 2 songs (so far) in German and both are so not for Eurovision. Either Schlager, Singer&Songwriter stuff or experimental stuff like Katze. Why can't we have something of international format in German? Depending on the actual audience, Marie Reim has good chances, because Schlager is popular in Germany. But absolutely not for Eurovision. Otherwise, when we have a big audience from the "bubble", it might be Ryk who gets to represent us. As said, probably the best choice, but nothing we could expect much from. If you consider that Ikke Hüftgold got 2nd in televoting last year, then I can see Marie being top 2 as well. But I think the juries will put her dead last. Honestly, even when I think that it will become last, I think we should send Marie. Schlager is at least some part of German musical culture. And it is in German. Your German is funny btw ^^
Sorry, I am so disappointed with those 8. The only ones I think are okay are Isaak, which I find quite enjoyable, and Max Mutzke (the only artist I even know). But what happened to diversity from last year? This feels like back to radiofriendly.. out of over 700(!) appliances how can THIS be the best? We had Versengold, Claudia Kurver, From fall to Spring (again), Will Church (again).... Sorry, NDR learned nothing.
Personally as a German I really hope we sent Ryk! I am afraid that we sent Max Mutzke cuz he is famous or Marie Reim since ppl just want Schlager.
Ryk is the only song with a chance of top 10 if staged correctly!
Yeah definitely not Max or Marie. They will definitely place last if chosen.
Ryk sounds exactly like the studio version on stage. He was already in the preliminary selection in 2018 with “You and I” 😁
Thanks for that information - I just watched his ‘You and I’ entry that you mentioned and he definitely has the vocal chops to slay! The only question is whether the Germany public will have the taste to send him!

Only RYK! He has a good voice in live performances, you can look into the preselection 2018 where he performed the song "You and I"
Ryk’s song gives me vibes of a blend of Michael Schulte (GER2018) and Sam Ryder (UK2022) which is a very good thing. I really hope he can sing live and he is Germany’s only real hope right now (with one undisclosed pre-selection NF song left to go).
I like Ryk. With a great staging and good live vocals, I think Germany can come back to the left side of the scoreboard! So Fingers Crossed 🤞🏾
I really hope for Ryk !!
Ryk is amazing. I didn't notice anything with the accent!

Thanks for the compliment! ;)
My normal Eurovision fan side: Germany should send Tears Like Rain. It is the best
My chaotic side: just send the Schlager song, send Schlager....
Absolutely, if the Schlager were good! I just want us to send a really catchy and stupid Schlager some day, completely over the top 😂

I love German Schlager, have always done so. And its a part of their identity :-)
There was no strong accent in Ryk's song tho?
Tbh i think out of these songs, Ryk is Germany's only option. He will stand out. The rest is, as you say a few times, not what Germany needs. Everything is just either too bland or too amateurish. I don't know what the German broadcaster is thinking.
Lol…“Orchestration is subliminal” is completely different meaning to “…is sublime”
all ESC REACTION want RYK oh boy
Germany choose the first one, ISAAK. I liked best the last song from Bodine Monet. Enjoyed your reactions.
Ryk ❤

My first pick is actally Katze. But I am a nerd grown up in the 1980ies, so it is for me by far the best song.
Whats wrong with ryk's accent?? I am rooting for ryk one thousand percent ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉

Tbh I think people were influenced by and liked the message behind Konstrakta so voted for it. Katze can't compare. 😅

Bodine Monet is my number 1❤❤❤
Just hearing the songs in the BACKGROUND is annoying, sorry!

I want Marie Reim at Eurovision. We are in need of a bit fun Schlager. Give us a Schlager Queen for the playlists. ❤🎉
Please not.
