  • i guess it is safe to say that the HG-500 is the GRX model from shimano,
i uploaded em long time ago, now i just tried comparing them side by side
and to my surprise the hg-500 weigh a little lighter
the black 42t cogs i guess made from aluminum alloy or maybe something else
both cogs with same sizes, hg500 doesn't have a box just a plastic packaging, and some paper with model name and brand, NO manuals
the m4100 comes in a decent, good quality box with manual and QR code

    Hello, thanks for the material.
These are a few of my additions.
On the manufacturer's website , there is no data for the CS-HG500 11-42t version, perhaps it was added later?
M4100 - MTB, HG500 - GRX groupset for gravel bike, lighter than mtb, stronger than regular road bike.

@@JomsF By the way, there are combinations in this doc:
      11-25T, 12-28T, 11-32T, 11-34T.
version 11-42 is not there, as I said. 11-42t was developed later, the doc was not updated.
But the dock states that version 11-34t has as many as 4 Titanium gear, in reality this is not, only 1. Perhaps despite the matching model type, it is something else.
And the "native" derailleur RD-RX400 from the GRX groupset with 11-42t does not work (freak in the family 🙂). Use M6000-GS and RD-M786-SGS, although some people talk about working with 11-s road Ultegra and etc.
      Good luck!

@@JomsF I found a photo of the original packaging. Apparently it means that 1 sprocket is aluminum, the rest are steel.

@@user-rf4ll1ti4v the gear combo wasnt listed by shimano on the link, BUT if you swipe pics and count the largest cog black it is 42t, might be shimano's fault they forgot to completely describe the 11-42t version
