What? Where is it in the two episodes did Freddie care about others?? He spoke of shooting a man like a horse. Later 5 seconds after sex with Ada he is asking about politics and getting any information he can from her. Then she has to sneak away and drops a prescription... So Tommy has to clean up all this mess. Tommy is swayed enough try to tell him to come back and take her with him.. Nope hes cocky and isn't afraid...

To me, he's talking about Tommy's way of dealing with things, aka with violence and killing, (adding, maybe Tommy's gonna eventually have to kill him too.) And to me, on the course of the season you can see he's not with Ada just to gain information and he actually loves her. (And it's not like Ada doesn't know he's involved in the communist party.) Just don't see how Freddie would seem a particularly bad guy in a show with quite a lot of bad guys. But of course, everyone has their own way of interpreting things!

"Polly was wrong" was about him telling Polly to get rid of Ada's baby. He assumes Grace had a bastard baby and it ruined her life. It's him looking for justification for what he ordered Ada to do

He’s smart enough to catch her in the lie about having worked in Dublin, but then, instead of asking her straight, and forcing her to come up with a new lie on the fly, he gives her a neatly packaged story that she can just nod along to because he’s still brooding about the blow out he had with Polly over Ada. My man, please focus!

The houses and streets are grey and black because of the fire smoke and industrial factories nearby, a lot of terraced streets looked like that 👍🏻
