    Good info, when I go out on the road from my field there is a big hill, so I always start in 9th, never had a problem. Someone at New Holland knew what they were doing.

    Thanks for sharing this. It’s a real time saver - would have taken a long time to figure this out thru trial and error. Makes sense to have overlapping gears between ranges. Also makes me wonder why every OEM doesn’t do this.

    9th gear gives enough low take off gear on road transport without bog down with pulling a load. And 8th gear gives you plenty enough field transport speed before it throws you out of your seat. I have cut a pretty decent smooth field in 8th gear where I had to also keep rpms up to do a clean cut and at times I had to drop down to 7th to have better control when bouncing gets a little to rough. I have a 2018 T6.180 6cyl. with 16x16 Electro Command also and they seem to be the same, and I don't particularly like trying to push that lever up to high range when I'm trying to get out of the way of traffic that might be coming up on me around a blind curve out of a field, that's when it makes sense to take off in the 9th gear in the high range and then I can toggle or run auto shift all the way up to 16th gear without any sweat of bog down.

    it's so you can keep good gears no matter what range your in like I buckrake in M4 on a 24 speed 6640 but if I hit a big lump I can drop it in to M2 easily and still keep going but I've have to stop I had to change range

    Not read all the comments. You are correct , it gives you a low gear to start off in that range. The reason for this is the 1-4 gears are synchronized, and the range gears l-m-h are not, so if starting off with a heavy load in 4 gear medium range, it would be difficult to shift up the range to high due to no synchro. So having a lower 1st gear you can start in high range, and work your way 1-2-3-4 that are synchronised.and don't have to touch the range gears.

  • @chrisscott6273
    @chrisscott6273 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Deere had this on the 4430 quad range it was designed this way to prevent clutch slippage when pulling heavy loads and needing to upshift to get to faster speeds

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +George Doorley. Yeah, we have a John Deere 7610 and if your pulling a heavy load you have to start off in a lower range then shift ranges while moving, it's kind of annoying.

  • @farming4g
    @farming4g 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yep, our TS100 is the same setup with the dual command... probably one of the reasons why I like to use it a lot due to the shifting for mowing and raking. We just got a TS6.130 with a 16x8... sadly, it isn't as nice as the 24x24 :(
    Massey has a similar gearing design with the Dyna-4s and 6s, especially with Ranges 2 and 3; the higher gears in range 2 somewhat match the lower gears in range 3 for better field operation.
    You can thank Jeff Reymond for me discovering your channel. I'll definitely be checking out your other vids.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Farming 4 Generations. Well I'll be sure to thank Jeff! I haven't heard of a 16X8. Did you mean the 16x16 electro command? My T4 had the 24x24 and I liked all the different speeds it offers but I prefer the power shifting of the electro command. I hope you enjoy my videos I'm fairly new at it so I'm not the best actor/editor yet but I'm trying. I'm going to check your channel out too!

    • @farming4g
      @farming4g 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nope, it is a 16x8. New Holland calls it a "Dual Power." It's very similar to the dual and electro command options, but just a cheaper version. The HI/LO function works with the forward speeds and not the reverse, hence why it's called 16x8. Also, the tractor can shift gears 1 through 4 on the fly (just like a dual command), but changing from range I or II requires to be fully stopped, which sucks, but it is what it is at a lower cost.
      I think it's just offered on the TS6 tractors, or perhaps on a high end T5 or a low end T6.
      Here's a link to the transmission options: agriculture1.newholland.com/nar/en-us/equipment/products/tractors-telehandlers/ts6-series/features/transmission

    Fiat build this transmissions from the 70's. It was designed for the Fiat 80 series. Later on they used it for the 90 and 94 series. Basically the TN TL and the older 35 series are old fiatagri 90 series tractors. With a new blue coat. 😉

      My Fiat/Fiatagri 80-90 DT from 1986 works the same way. 4th gear in "medium range" is higher than 1st gear in "high range". Wery usefull when you pull away with a heavy load. And I have a 12+12 gearbox which means that I have 12 forward and 12 reverse gears.

    On my dyna-4 Massey 5713SL i'm forced to work slower than i could sometimes unless i want to change ranges every other minute. Wouldn't have to if ranges overlapped a little and i just could stay in the higher range and only cycle between 4 powershifts. Then again, not overlapping is superior in transport. I guess the most important is to be aware of these differences and to know what you want before you buy a tractor. None of the tractors is perfect for everything.

    I have a New Holland TL 100A tractor. My problem is----the tractor always starts off with a JERK. (and I don't mean the driver!!!!) It has the gears and range that you show, plus a clutch, plus a forward and reverse lever on the left of the steering wheel. I got the tractor used, and don't think this jerk-starting is normal. Claas entered the tractor market here in Australia not long ago in a big way so dealers are few and far between, they compete with John Deere, Fendt, everyone here owns a John Deere, NH are popular as well as a pile of other makes, there are farmers here who changed solely to Claas tractors and headers.
