It's not. And it's why Ukraine said they aren't interested in acquiring it from the US. It's only effective with complete air superiority. It's slow, and incredibly vulnerable to SAMs.

True story: I was skiing one day in Vermont. Almost immediately after i got off the ski lift 3 A-10s buzzed the top of the mountain. They were definitely under 300 feet above and I neither heard nor saw them coming. They are literally low flying tanks and would do a lot of damage on night time sorties when the Russians are unprepared. They can carry sophisticated GPS and thermal image guided bombs. Granted they would be vulnerable to air fighters, but much more effective at hit and run missions than the arcane WWII method of lobbing thousands of artillery shells. Artillery duals are also wasteful and vulnerable to counter artillery. Their crews literally have minutes to re-establish a new location.

Years back, I did a lot of backpacking and skiing in NY's Adirondacks. Same thing. If it's an area of low population density they are working on holding a tight and low formation.
What you can find from backpacking is that they are also using their instrument's and communicating. ....because, well, I guess they were just chasing deer around when they notice one had two legs.
But, yeh, everybody at the slopes enjoys it...they keep the engines on muffler, BTW. When WTC happened that was one thing that woke me up from a sound sleep. All of the usual engine sounds were suddenly out of place. I woke up and turned the news on...no sound, just a vid of WTC on the news station...then the rest of the news stations started doing the same thing. I walked outside to listen and look....yep, two back-up fighters screaming low down the valley with the mufflers off...in the wrong formation, one covering Nuclear North line the other on a Nuclear South line...I could hear the rest of the squadron but couldn't see them. I walked back inside and phoned the local news broadcast. They didn't know anything other than that was coming off the NYC wire and was authentic..,(Not satellite hacking, and not a drill.) I called the airbase after that....the USAF operator didn't know anything. That was when Peter Jennings started talking, without a script.

Ukraine is getting and training on F-16s
According the narrator the A-10 Warthog has only the 30 mm rotary cannon. If it is loaded with hellfire missiles it can blast its targets from a much further range.
Hellfire missiles only have a range of 4-7 miles. Not very useful with all the SAMs in theatre. Even f-16s will struggle. Also "further" is used when speaking metaphorically or regarding advancement. "Farther" is the word you're looking for when discussing physical distances.
Base in AZ: Luke? I thought Luke trained F-16 pilots.

I wondered what they were talking about when they said that Ukrainian pilots were being trained at Davis Monthan to fly F16s. Davis Monthan trains for A10s and C130s not F16s.

Just now? We're so behind the schedule. F-+5s are easier to maneuver than F-16s.
Give these guys the credit they deserve. We have enough combat planes...and don't I know it. If I can fly F-35s and F-22s like a damn dragon, these guys deserve better than the promises we feed them.
And there was no delay after I graduated from the Academy. I was falling soon enough out of the sky into that freaking desert and was the airman who transported the SEALs team. No lab was needed, only skies over a hostile territory. And a helicopter that was waiting for a pilot (me).
AFSPECWAR demanded that we flew entire crew (me, co-pilot, the mechanic, and 2 shooters. )Plus the SEALs we were transporting. First rotation and Hellz Yeah!
If true, the Warthogs would be a devastating threat against Russian tanks.

I doubt it seeing as the show of force demonstration around Taiwan included A10’s flying with B1’s. We have opened a lot more bases in the South Pacific. Including Tinian. From what was reported in the USAF news they were chosen because of the number of weapon stations and long loiter time. They are going through the typical change of mission almost all of our aircraft go through prior to retirement. They are being used as MALD launch platforms. And Maritime interdiction.

He waved at me. Only the last sentence might be the imagination of a 10 year old. what a plane. hope it helps.
I really want to see Ukraine develop a drone version of the A-10, which would probably be 2/3 the size and carry comparable sensor and weapons payloads to the Bayraktar TB-2, but be designed around the 20mm cannon of the Phalanx CIWS similar to how the A-10's designed around its 30mm GAU-8 Avenger cannon.
Both are capable of using tungsten or depleted uranium shells for enhanced armor penetration and with the aid of AI stabilization, could be a cheap way of dispatching other unarmed reconnaissance drones with the use of programmable air-burst ammunition.
Plus with a drone instead of a piloted aircraft, it becomes more attritable and allows for more aggressive support of troops on the ground while playing to Ukraine's strength in developing drones and training drone pilots.

In my opinion, Aircraft are too expensive to maintain and fly in a war zone in Ukraine. They are better off using drones and smart artillery and rockets. They are easier to hide and the cost are far less and easier to replenish.

The Ukrainian's are highly Intelligent veteran war fighters, they will develop tactics in conjunction with ground forces, drones, F16's, F15's, artillery. for the A10's, Tactics and strategy. The Russian populace and military are controlled by fear. The Ukrainian's are not controlled by fear, they are motivated by patriotism and even-handed leadership. that's their massive advantage over the Russkie's. Whispering death from above. the A10 my favorite Aircraft after the De Havilland Mosquito.
I just what to tell you all, that the a-10 is vary limited even for the US forces. They have not been in production for awhile, and have only been upgraded. And any lost are not coming back. They are specailized mostly for ground targets to protect ground soldiers compared to the general aircrafts they make like f -35 that costs much more. Last i known there not a air craft to be given out side the US. Unless policies and politicians in congress say's otherwize that fund the upgrades.
