Upgraded version for export, the Indian Air Force being the first customer. Equipped with the Phazotron Kopyo (Spear) airborne radar, which is capable of simultaneously tracking 8 targets and engaging 2 of them with semi-active radar homing air-to-air missiles, such as the Vympel R-27. The radar also enables the fighter to deploy active radar homing air-to-air missiles such as the Vympel R-77 when an additional channel is incorporated. Russia has claimed that this version is equivalent to the early F-16. The Indian Air Force has since then upgraded its avionics with the addition of Helmet Mounted Sight (HMS), ability to fire High Off-Boresight missiles like the R-73 (missile) and Tactical Data Link, improving further its already formidable WVR Combat capability, and has performed very well even against F-15C Eagles in Cope India and Red Flag Exercises.
So the Bison is quite capable of holding on it’s own against the early F-16s.
Now the interesting fact is, the Pak F-16D that was shot down is a Block 52+ version. Inducted in to service in 2010.

Simple Summary
Why it was MIG 21 vs F16 & not SU30 vs F16?
The 2 x MIG21 were not on the ground but in regular surveillance services.
During this regular course.... Abhinandan and another pilot intercepted 2 foreign objects entering into Indian Air Space. They had entered around 7km inside Indian boundaries which takes only 30 seconds maximum.
Two options were with Indian pilots. Inform Command and return back and let Superiors take final decision OR
2nd option engage with them and counter the threat.
Option 1st would have been dangerous as it would have lost significant time and F16 would have done maximum damage on Brigade or supply depots hence both pilots choose option 1 which was too dangerous to their individual life but still they took "BEYOND call Of DUTY"
They engaged with F16 head on without losing any valuable time. They confronted F16 head on. Napakistan Coward Piolots had never expected this and returned back. MiG21 is no match to speed of F16. That's why Abhinandan fired R73 Air to Air missile from his MIG 21. R73 is supersonic weapon. This created turbulence due to which Abhinandan lost control of his Fighter and had to eject using parachute which drifted into POK. When Abhinandan touched ground, he was surrounded by locals. He checked with them if it is Indian territory or POK. They tried to fool him, but Abhinandan quickly realized that he is in POK.He fired in air from his pistol so that he gets time to swallow the critical documents he had on him. It was then when Niceness of Napak population showed their real Niceness and assaulted him till he was taken into custody by Napak army.
This may also clear your doubts why debris of F 16 were found in POK and debris of MiG 21 in Our territory.
The videos played deliberately showing Napak Army treating him well was a complete eyewash. As I had said since yesterday... It was only diplomatic warfare.
Napakistan showed it's real character when it tried to Blackmail India to sit on Negotiations Table by putting him as a Ransom. Napakistan wanted to create same public pressure on Govt as it did at the time of Kandahar Highjack. But Govt didn't bow. I am really proud the way, the pressure was handled by Central Govt and Finally Napakistan had to relent after High Pressure forced by India. It's a great Diplomatic Victory to get our Brave Heart back.
But.... I won't be fully convinced till he lands back.
I don't trust Napakistan. If I have to kill one between a snake and a Napaki..... I will prefer to kill a Napaki as they have a well proven treacherous track record.
Anyways.... Salute to Abhinandan. He saved our military installation as well as destroyed Generation 4 aircraft F16 with 40 years old MiG21.
That's Indian Air Force in your Service. Feel proud. Not Helpless in SUCH situations.

F 16 is obsolete 4 th gen jet. R 73 missile on mig 21 is advanced missile even if jet is old. It has infrared detection system lock n fire. Jet will be hit accurately.
Almost all air to air missile have IR guided system . I was only talking about skill of Piolet to engage in a dogfight sinario with a 3 times better aircraft . And almost all controls are Manuel

Yes wat we needed was fully loaded Su 30 ready for combat as it has gud radar n electronics. Also, we can import sidewinder missiles from Sweden as they have license from US to manufacture it. UK was losing in Argentina, but once they had sidewinders equiped, they finished all Argentine jets. Sidewinder is as good as AIM aaram missile used on F16.
Air force is fully combat ready . And our equipments are ready ....
If 18 Pakistani aircrafts cross border may be less that 3 mins was there for that particular air base to scramble that .... So they will pick anything that's on runway ... Abhinadan is a sukhoi Piolet . Kindly don't count Pakistan 1 and India 1 . Because a day before that 12 aircrafts of Indian army almost went inside Pakistan .

Russian manpad Igla/verba sam system or AIM stinger from USA can easily shoot any 4th Gen jet. It can be deployed in Mountain areas n anything that flies below 26000 feet is gone. Indian Su 30 needs to integrate Side winders air to air missiles.
