My Most Epic Kayak Fishing Trip (Slammer Mahimahi, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo)

With typical winter winds, swell, and rain making the usual grounds less than ideal, we headed to the leeward side of the Big Island in search of clear, calm waters. I wasn't expecting a lot because of the full moon, but I couldn't have been more wrong...
I've really wanted to re-edit this video because I feel like the original is way too bloated with boring footage. Now that I haven't filmed anything worth posting for a few weeks this was the perfect chance.

Line and terminal tackle: 65 lb spiderwire, 40lb PowerPro, 40lb Berkeley Vanish Fluorocarbon, J-Line 30 lb flurocarbon leader, 35 lb Knot2Kinky Titanium wire leader, Gamakatsu 5/0 live bait hooks, VMC inline 2/0 hooks
home made sabiki rig for bait: 12lb Ande monofilament (main), 10lb Flurocarbon (branches), size 8 gold limerick hooks, Mar-Mellow Lures 1.5" glow strips, Tylah Lures 1.5" glow strips, HiPerformance Lures "fish sticks", 4 oz bank sinker

It really has never been as on fire as that to date! I don't have any video for the spear but it's just a 3/8 inch stainless threaded rod set and epoxied into a cheap oak dowel wrapped in electric tape.
How've you been? Has the weather been rough? Looking forward to see more videos. However if it's bad out there be safe. Hope all is well.
Pretty rough times right now between bad weather and the live bait not cooperating! Hopefully things get better in the next few months.

After watching this, I've decided that kayak fishing Hawaii needs to be added to my fishing bucket list. Any recommendations for places / time of year to go? Any guides or groups that you could recommend fishing with there?
Summer time and fall have the best weather. Any of the major boat ramps on the west side of Hawaii island are good places to start. I don't know anybody that guides here but there's a couple guys who run guided charters on Maui I think

I see you that you use a Spinner Reel in your arsenal. Can you tell me what type, #test, Brand, length of your top shot you use? I've been having issues with my #40 FC SeaGuar blue label of bursting into a birds nest when I open bail to let out live bait on it. Should I use a softer less memory FC line or Mono? Thanks for your help.
I used to always use 40 lb Berkeley Vanish Flurocarbon. It's not even leader material but it works and doesn't shoot off the spool. I even se regular 40 lb ande mono sometimes and it's fine.

how is the Spheros working for you?
It was great til I dropped it in the sea like 6 months ago. Very solid reel with smooth drag and the PG model has good cranking power. 10000 size handled sailfish, ono, mahi, and 40 lb yellowfins
How heavy do you set your drag as you are trolling on the kayak?
if its live bait I run the drag as loose as possible and hold the rod as I troll /drift. For dead bait I leave in rod holder and have 4-6 lbs drag
Do you know where I can get a decent kage spear? Mahalo
I've seen one on Amazon. Don't know anybody who's used that one though we all make our own its like 20 bucks of materials here
