I found out about Kard through their Cake dance practice which I have to say, is a very ‘interesting’ dance 🤫 which I truly recommend you watching! But be ready lol 😅! I really like Kard, they are amazing! The fact that they are co-ed as well is so cool!! Also, they are very humble and fun human beings from what videos I saw of them! Sadly, co-ed groups are not popular in South Korea so they didn’t get many awards which is a shame..But they are huge abroad, mainly in Latin America, you probably already gathered the Latin influence in these songs. I’m glad you’re checking them out! All the songs that you reacted to are on my playlist! 😊
I am trying to transition myself into girl groups too, and it's better to take it slow. and I saw Kard. I really like them. Ring the Alarm is like my jam now. But they are going towards a more mature audience...let's put it this way. :))))))
@@lorydannagrI’m glad you’re starting with Kard, it’s a nice transition! Yes, anyone watching them will instantly see that, it’s kind of what they’re known for! They are mature with their songs and lyrics and cater towards a mature/adult audience! Ring the Alarm is actually my favorite song from them as of now, followed by Icky and Cake! 😊
I say don't shy away from the song You In Me it is more about an obsessive relationship than something sexual. I really like that song and MV. I like the Latin vibe to their music, I like how rediculous they are with each other. People think it won't work with a co-ed group but they are just a bunch or siblings, like if you had an older brother trying to get you to eat bugs or something, very juvenile. Watching BM get Somin to swear in English is so funny
Kard debuted in 2017. Here are the members: 4:00 J-seph, 32 (main rapper) 5:26 BM (Big Matthew), 31 (main dancer, main producer, born/spent much of his life in Los Angeles and he’s fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese) 7:44 Somin, 27 (main vocalist) 8:24 Jiwoo, 27 (main dancer, maknae)
BM is not fluent in Portuguese, he says his family speaks it so he knows some but is definitely not fluent. His Spanish is far better but idk if I'd say fluent either (coming from a native Spanish speaker).
@@alex__andrei no worries! He is good at it, definitely, and you can see the effort they all put into communicating with their Spanish and Portuguese speaking fans, it's awesome to see.
Love KARD, saw them in concert last year they were so great! They are also very nice and just as beautiful in person, I got to take a solo photo with them. I scrolled and didn't see if you've reacted to Monsta X yet. I recommend Jealousy, Shoot Out, and Kiss or Death but honestly I love all their music, you could close your eyes and pick and not go wrong.
One reason why I think Kard is one of very few co-ed groups in the Kpop industry is because co-ed groups and duos are harder to manage when it comes to Idol culture. The Kpop industry is designed to make it so that Kpop Idols are held to a higher standard and they are meant to be seen as if they are devoted to their fans, are pure, perfect and flawless at all times. (As dumb as it seems, I think it's harder for people to picture a co-ed group not being in situations where they are unable to adhere to that modest and pure standard.) Plus, it's just fundamentally more difficult because of living situations and management issues, as well as choreography styles and group dynamics, etc. When you have mixed groups you run into issues of dating rumors and situations where people may feel less connected to the members because it changes the dynamic of what is traditionally thought of as the Kpop standard. For example, Kard member BM, who is Korean-American from L.A., often talks about how they have really had to struggle to quelch dating rumors, to convince people that there are no romantic relationships in their group and that they are all just friends. (To be fair, if they really knew them, people would know how ridiculous that is because they are so much more like siblings then they are as a couple. I mean if you watch some of their content you will see how they are like big brothers picking on their annoying little sisters, etc.) Kard debuted in 2016, which makes them part of the third generation. Third generation idols are from an era where the Kpop industry sort of insulated idols and made it appear as if they never interact with anyone of the opposite sex. If you notice, most of the time whenever pretty much any third generation group or artist is around someone of the opposite sex, we hardly ever see the other person's face or see them interacting together. Third generation was when the Kpop industry decided to take the Idol image up to the next level and make it appear as if the idols were solely devoted to their fans and that they never have any outside distractions. Which makes the fact that Kard was created to go against all this, that much more interesting. Kard is a rare exception to the rule. However, it makes it so they are far less popular in Korea than they are internationally. Kard has a pretty large international following, especially in Latin American countries and communities, and the have a large hispanic fanbase. The members even speak some spanish and they have several songs with spanish lyrics. They are known for their Latin sound and feel of many of their songs and they are one of the few Kpop groups that have large concert tours across Latin America. If you think "Icky" was something, now you understand why we said just wait until you see their choreography for their song "Cake." Kard is known for having much more mature content than the average Kpop artist. ;) Because their name is KARD, each of the members have a card suit that represents them BM is the King card, J.Seph is the Ace, Somin is the black joker and Jiwoo is the colored joker. That is why you saw the card suits represented in their MV. KARD's fans are called Hidden Kard, which sort of alludes to how the group and members are extremely talented, yet underrated and their fans are the special ones who are lucky enough to have discovered them.
I reacted to Cake…and yes…my mouth was open the whole video. 😂 I really like them. Thank you for sharing with me all this info. I do not know much about the kpop industry and it’s journey.

There have been many other mixed groups before KARD actually like AKMU from YG Entertainment, Roo'ra, Koyote, Sharp, and CoEd School. Those are the groups who actually debuted as a mixed group there plenty more others which are just sub-units or project groups like Younique Unit, SM The Ballad, Y Teen, Troublemaker, Triple T, Triple H, K-Tigers, and SSAK3. I know I'm missing some groups but nonetheless there many others like KARD.
you choose 3 complete different songs by them, great choice i must say😁👍now you can hear their 3 complete different sounds and sides. they came back with Tell My Momma recently so please check it, you`ll see their cute side
A lot of the KARD's music is Latin infused K-pop. I've really enjoyed their music from their debut. It looks like you really loved this group and hope you enjoy your journey discovering more of them.
If you like Ring The Alarm the best, then I would suggest their new MV Tell My Momma and maybe a couple of their older ones, Don't Recall and Rumour (hidden version) and Oh Na Na. If you want more of their newer songs that sound a bit more like Gunshot, then I suggest Dumb Litty, Bomb Bomb....My personal favorite of theirs is Red Moon

Thanks for the k.a.r.d reaction. Can I request a Dreamcatcher reaction here? I think Dreamcatcher would be a good K-pop girl group introduction for you.
i can't believe someone had you watch icky as the intro to KARD 😭😂 they've always been intense but this is typically not where i start new listeners LOL in case you couldn't tell, the whole "Icky" come back was s€x themed. Somin - the short, black haired one - said the group wanted a comeback with a "mature" theme. also you have to understand, them existing as a co-ed group is controversial. they are constantly [and i do mean constantly] being asked about their romantic/sexual relations with each other and all four of the members are sick of it. this song/music video about the girls enjoying s€x and/or seducing the boys, while the boys are using dismissive & degrading language talking about the girls, is meant to be a huge "F*ck You!" to everyone in the industry who has ever insinuated or out right asked something inappropriate. because reporters will out right ask them during interviews if they've had s€x with each other, but then still expect the members to behave like innocent children, not grown adults. also the personas they use for this music video could not be further from how they function as a group. they are all best friends/practically siblings, have never been interested in each other romantically or sexually. they're all decent, hard working people. they each have a suit from a deck of cards that represents them, that's why it's showing on their eyes in ring the alarm. they're known for their dancing.
Coming from a more western culture where this is normal, it was fine for me. It was a shock as I was not used to see it from a Kpop group. But yeah, I am used to it normally. I am sorry to see they struggle with this…but I love their music. And them being more mature makes it a bit better for me as it’s my age. 😂
