  • Billings, Montana is the largest city in the state and home to many fun attractions. We spent a few days exploring the city in late September 2019 and here were some of our favorite hikes, restaurants, breweries, and parks. Let us know what we left off in the comments.

      I'm certainly proud to call Montana home. Billings, or "Hillbillings" as a friend put it, not so much. I'd like to get out and move to the western side of the state. I like mountains and forests much, much more than prairie and sagebrush.

    I've lived in Billings for 36 years. I cant believe all the haters leaving their "I'm bored...nothing to do here" comments. I'm proud of my hometown and I wished others would be proud also. Make your own way. Nobody is going to hold your hand and do it for you. Great video.

    Note: the Burger Dive is only open for lunch/late lunch. 4pm is the latest they are open, so they are not a dinner spot.

    • @BraedenRoesler
      @BraedenRoesler 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @I_Said_ OU812 Not sure their exact reasoning behind it. I haven't heard any rumors or reasoning as to why. They've been that way as long as I can remember. It's a very popular place.

    • @BraedenRoesler
      @BraedenRoesler 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @I_Said_ OU812 yeah I've eaten there several times. It's obviously more expensive than McDonald's but you're getting so, so much more. The Burger Dive has won many regional and even national awards for their burgers. In 2016 they were the World Burger Champion in the world food championships. The burgers are huge as well as the sides you get. The burger I usually get needs to be stabbed with a knife first so it doesn't explode from juiciness when you take a bite. If you get a Smore's shake, they bring out a butane torch and light the marshmallows on fire on top of the shake for an authentic fire roasted Smore taste.
      The burgers range about $5-$11 burger only, or $8.25-$13.50 with fries (upgradable to beer battered onion rings with local brewery beer, and other sides).
      You can find the full menu here: theburgerdive.com/full-menu
      If you Google it, you can find photos and reviews, and I think those speak for themselves as well.
      I would spend the extra money on a burger here over McDonald's any day of the week.
      (another great place downtown for burgers is a local brewery called Uberbrew on Montana Ave. They've got great beer and burgers and fries as well, but Burger Dive is still a step above.)

    Thanks for this vlog! I actually lived at Little Bighorn National Monument (which was then called Custer Battlefield) from 1977-1978. My dad worked for the national park, and I went to school in Hardin. So cool to see the park (and Billings) over 40 years later, especially considering that we now both live in the greater Los Angeles area!

    If you disc golf, as I do, the Diamond X Disc Golf Course is probably the "world's most dangerous disc golf course" as it leads you up a cliff, all over on top of the cliff, and one huge shot from the top to the start. Super fun to play, but many vertical climbs are involved.

    To sum this up, as someone that lives here in Billings.. "Hike and drink." If you are the outdoorsy type Billings is a great place. Unfortunately if you are less inclined to the outdoors scene there isn't much to do. Occasionally something interesting pops up in the Metra at least. Finally, there has been some growth for things like the Steam Punk community though, so it is starting to grow.

    One place you mised was the Battle of Canyon Creek
    A stone structure and plaque mark the Battle of Canyon Creek west of Billings, where the Nez Perce and U.S. Army fought briefly in 1877. Nez Perce warriors fired at the soldiers from the rim in the background.
    JEFF WELSCH, Gazette Staff
    Date: Sept. 13, 1877. Nez Perce War of 1877.
    Location: Eight miles north of Laurel, 16 miles west of Billings.
    Tribe: Nez Perce
    What’s there: A small covered pavilion with three interpretive signs and a sandstone pillar describing the battle marks the junction of Buffalo Trail and Lipp roads west of Billings and north of Laurel. Don’t bother exploring the creek bottoms or distant rims where the Nez Perce had staked out positions, though; they’re all on private land.
    The story: For more than a month since the Battle of the Big Hole, the Nez Perce had continued to elude Gen. Howard, their easterly and then northerly pilgrimage taking them through America’s first national park, Yellowstone, where they killed two tourists. The 7th Cavalry under Col. Samuel Sturgis was ordered to intercept the Indians as they emerged from Yellowstone, but they failed until the tribe reached turbid Canyon Creek where it emerges from a cut in the rims. The Nez Perce came to the Yellowstone River country believing the Crow would provide asylum. But, fearing retaliation and mistakenly believing helping the U.S. Government would serve their future, the Crow refused Chief Looking Glass’ overtures; some even became cavalry scouts. Despite being outnumbered about 2-to-1, Looking Glass’ small group of snipers managed to keep the cavalry at bay long enough for the women and children to make an easterly escape along the rims before turning north in hopes of finding an ally in Sioux Chief Sitting Bull in Canada.
    The significance: Though the Indians suffered only three casualties, the Crow, who refused assistance, used the cover of the U.S. Army to steal about 300 Nez Perce horses, further demoralizing the tribe and slowing its progress just enough to allow the troops to catch up a month later 40 miles shy of Canada.

    Having watched his videos on the Grand Canyon and Sedona, I was surprised to see my hometown of Billings featured by Josh. I must say that Josh is such a pleasant guy that he could make the south side of Chicago on Saturday night look like a safe, wonderful place to explore with the family (Go into advertising, Josh). That being said, Little Bighorn aside (for history buffs), this is a wonderful place to live and raise kids, but not much of a destination spot. You fly into Billings as a jumping off place to go somewhere wonderful to hike, fish, hunt, or camp. If you love to hunt and fish, it's fabulous. Otherwise . . . well . . . you saw how the brewerys were a feature. You might spend a little too much time imbibing.
