Great information. I have two rods as a bank angler. If it’s a day where I think I may throw different types of topwater I like a 7’1” MH/F, I can still walk a frog in most places and then the length allows longer casts for all other types of lures. But if i know I’m only going to throw a frog I actually drop down to a 6’11” HF because I can get into tighter places on the bank and have clearance for the rod tip to be angled down when walking the frog.
I know your the man, great channel I had to quit watching all the other TH-cam channels because it was just pollution I appreciate you my guy. Praise YAHWEH

Braid floats. Fluro sinks. So they say it can hinder rop water baits by pulling the nose down and it much more stretchy. Doesn't work as well. But I can't afford too many rods, so I just switch it up every now and then.
Tyler wow thank you for this video I’m learning so much from your instructional videos you’ve really broaden my experiences of catching bass. Great Video! I would really appreciate a video about the progression of rods to buy if you can't get everything at once. Many people advise starting with 7-7'3 med-hvy fast rod. What is the next most important and so on...
Hey Tyler old man Gusto here I don’t like most things..I like your videos. I just ordered a Lews Mach 1 combo, you seem to use it a lot. I hope I’m just as happy with it. Keep up the good work 🤠👍
When you going up to bois darc I got a spot for you, if you go to the north part in the middle fish the trees in 4-7 foot of water I caught a 6 and several more over there also if you can find grass they will be there
I was planning on getting the Lews Custom XP Combo since its on sale at bass pro right now and I get my employee discount off the sale price on top of that. It comes in a 7'4 MH Fast i will be using that as my Top Water/small glide bait rod.
Personally as someone who fishes from the bank I prefer something just a touch shorter and more limber like a 6’10 Medium power Moderate fast action for things such as spooks poppers, even jerk baits , some light Texas Rigs if I’m not in the thickest cover. I find that with the treble hooks the moderate fast action has enough bend to keep them pond but not too much to mess with the action of the bait. For frogging I’ll use the 7’-7’3 for that! Just my long winded two cents.
I've been using a 7' for lots of topwater applications too, but I would like that extra length to get that extra distance. Especially with high diameter braids, that length would really help! I'll be picking up one of these ASAP 😎🐸
I have 2 x Mach 2’s, a Smash casting and spinning combo and the Jacked. Any of the Mach combos are incredible and honestly the Smash is my favorite. I recommend them to everyone
I’ve lost way too many fish on treble-hook topwaters when I fish em on fast rods. Even with light hookset I find they can shake them off. I get your point of using one rod for all topwaters for simplicity and as a kayaker I especially understand the logic of that. But after losing a PIG on a whopper Plopper on my jig rod (MH/F) I try and bring something a bit softer to keep em pinned when I can. Thanks for the vid!!
Yeah if you can have 2 topwater rods, that’s better. But for ONE, and using the frog around grass a ton, this has to be my suggestion. I love a good Medium/Fast for my poppers
I'm a big fan of the popper it's the only surface lure that I have right now. I was waiting for you to mention that it was lighter. When I throw it I use an 8 monofilament line With a medium spinning rod.
I don’t have that much money so I used one spinning rod and 1 baitcaster. They’re both my all around rods. I have braided like on my baitcaster and I use it the most can bass see braided line? Is that a good idea or should I switch to different line and how much pounds?
i got my first every baitcaster combo. i made it my top water rod . its a 7ft med hvy fast action lews speed stick w a lews mach 2 reel. i also got braid to go along with it and i used it. i didnt catch a fish but it was nice to throw. really wanted a 7’3 but could just not find one. out of my excitement i figured 3 inches would not make a difference and could always get another one another day.
Shoot, I’ve never had TW mess up like that, I’m sorry. The moderate is not going to be the best for the frog, but it can work great for all the others. Maybe keep that one and it can be a good treble hook topwater and chatterbait/spinnerbait rod. Trying to return rods is very challenging
Well dang, call Lew’s and see if they can send you just the MH rod. Tell them Tyler can talk to Will Kenan about getting it sent if they can’t send it for free
Update. I sent the rod back and waiting on a refund. I got a nice rod from a local guy who runs a tackle shop out of his house, but I’m definately gonna pick up one of those reels tho.
Would it be a bad idea to throw my walking style and poppers on a 6'8 medium fast? Was thinking about switching my 12lb flouro i was using for jerkbaits to braid to flouro to make it more versatile for both topwater and jerkbait
First off great video! Sadly I am still very much confused on what I should actually get so I could use a little help. I mostly fish in a pretty clean lake but there are some small lilly pad areas for frogs. Should I go with a 7"1 M or a 7"1MH... Would the option to throw lighter lures be better than using a MH beings there's not much cover?
The MH is for the thickness of the frog hooks, not just the thickness of the cover. Thats more-so the longer rod. I would still go with a MH if you plan on frogging. And whatever you decide to get, try to purchase it through the links in my video description if you can! Doesn’t even have to be the products I linked
