We have a 1993 k2500 454 long bed extended cab 4x4 with airbags. It is not nearly as pretty as yours. We beat the ever living F out of it towing firewood on a car trailer and in the bed. It has done some ugly things. The damned thing is filthy, bar oil and saw dust all over the cab. It has never let us down. It does leak oil, the exhaust is rusted. We invested in keeping the brakes and tires tip top for the weight we deal with. Your truck will serve you well for what your are doing, and it is good to see you stayed within your budget instead of chasing the candy. Those trucks are easy to work on and parts are cheap. Bravo.
You inspire me to fix my dad’s old Cheyenne ‘97 with automatic instead of stick. When I parked it I had just fixed valve cover leaks. I need to put a fuel pump in and change diffs and transfer fluids but for 197k it’s still worth hanging on to.
The fuel costing less and the oil changes being 1/3 the price of a diesel makes a big block a great choice. I just bought a 1992 K2500 regular cab 454 5 speed manual with 114,000 miles from it's second owner for $5600. It's a completely rust free truck from north Idaho. It goes well with our 2001 K2500 8.1 Suburban.
Yeah, I found this for sale at 1:00 AM and drove 4 hours the next day to go get it. They're getting harder and harder to find. The nickname is accurate...too accurate. Thanks for watching - Everett
I own a 1998 K2500 with 454 BB. Nothing beats cubic inch. Everlasting truck, 360000mls and still runs like a clock. Went on a cross country tour of about 3500mls, without any issues.
Wow! That's awesome. I actually made a bet with our neighbor who drove down with us when we picked up the truck. I bet her $20 that it would make it to 300,000 miles if I owned it that long. I have no doubts. Thanks for watching - Everett
You bought what you could afford, that’s always good advice. I have a 2006 Chevy 2500 HD with a 6.0 motor. It is one of the last ones made with a 5 speed transmission. You will enjoy the 5-speed, especially pulling a trailer.
I have a white 96 2500 Silverado it has 154,xxx it has the 5.7 and it’s only 2wd but I love I paid 5000 for it. I got it off of Facebook. Drove 3 hrs. Worth it. It’s mint af. I’ve had it for 3 days. Best truck I’ve driven so far
Definitely a good looking truck man. I had an 06 Silverado 3500 with the LBZ/Allison that I used to tow with, but couldn't justify the price of upkeeping a diesel like that for the amount of pulling I need to do. I've since sold that truck and got into an 01 Silverado 2500hd with an 8.1L/Allison and it pulls incredible. The big blocks are thirsty but reliable and incredible strong. I haven't had any complaints. The 8.1L has been super reliable and very strong for pulling with.
That's awesome! If I ever needed something for more pulling power I'd probably go for one of those. All of the ones you mentioned are great trucks. Should have some videos of the 7.4L pulling pretty hard once hay season comes around. Thanks for watching - Everett
Beautiful truck. I’ve had my 91 c2500 with a 350 and a nv4500 for about a year now and it’s my favorite thing ever. I’d say I enjoy it as much as my mustang. The odometer doesn’t work but I’d say the truck has about 600k on it now
I've got a 1998 Chevy 3500 with a 454. It's a crewcab with a longbed. I wish it was a manual transmission. It is awesome in the snow between the weight and the 4wd.
That's a pretty nice truck. I used to work on those when they were new. No real issues other than front differential would leak and lose gear oil people would run them dry and then they would go out. Rear bumper failure from rust being on inside. that issue was way up until 2007 had rear bumper failures. I have a 05 bumper rotten. Your Transmission is a Millennial theft proof manual and the automatics were somewhat weaker in those years anyway. Gas mileage??? better buy an oil well!!
I’d say keep it, if you still have it. I have a ‘99 k2500 suburban with the 7.4, and a ‘00 Silverado with the 6.0 and the 5 speed stick. I really love them both.
Love the NV4500! The big block chevies from the mid 70s-2001 (when the 8.1 was first made) were so sad. Totally detuned and anemic! So much potential in all those cubic inches! I have an 8.1 truck and it is a beast! Finally gm made a decent big block but then the EPA/cafe killed it after 2007…
Nice review of the new pony! Sure looks clean. Love the footage with Lachlan. Hope you get a lot of trouble-free use out of the truck. Feel for you with the gas prices being a political tool now. I'm not much better off with my F150. I get about 17mpg on average. Thanks for the video!
The MPG is really the only thing I hate about this truck. 10 is about the best it does. MAYBE 11 or 12 on the highway. But I pull a trailers a lot with it so often it's even worse. But it's got the 7.4L TBI big block and it has good power and low end torque. So reliable and simple that I can't complain about the MPG. Thanks!
I found a 2000 1 ton chevy and am going to talk to the guy tomorrow. 100k miles. It's not a dually (i perfer that) lowest milage I ever had on any vehicle. If you got any tips on what to look for let me know.
Hey, sorry, just saw this. Biggest thing is the manifold intake leak of coolant. Very common on that era of Vortec engine. Make sure the IFS looks okay and really check for rust. Make sure rust wasn't painted or sprayed over at any point. My understanding is that the front diff seals go commonly so make sure it's not leaking anywhere. If you've already looked at it, hope it's a great truck! Thanks for watching - Everett
I see a lot of the vortec 454 with spun main bearings. The tbi engine seems to last longer. I have really been enjoying driving and working mine around the house. It's no speed demon but it has plenty of torque to pull. Hope your truck is still running well. I have been watching alot of your stocker cattle videos lately because I'd like to get into that soon.
Thank you! I actually just got back from work driving it. I need to change the transmission oil and I've been having some problems with the doors, but other than that she's running beautifully. I have some towing videos coming up with it too. I sometimes wish I had the extra power of a vortec 7.4 but I know this is a little more reliable. I've enjoyed your videos as well. God bless - Everett
Haven't made hardly any modifications to it (and I don't really plan to) but she's working harder than ever! Still running great! I plan on doing an update video at some point.
I have a 1994 GMC SIERRA 7.4L with a Manual Transmission Long bed 4x4. Looks similar to yours but the only difference is GMC. I want to add towing mirrors to mine. Your’s look good with those mirrors bro 🔥 any recommendations?
That's awesome! The manuals are definitely more rare. My truck came with those already on, but I busted one off and had to replace it. These are the ones I got and they're the same ones. This is the version with the wires for power adjustable mirrors, so if you don't have those obviously just get the regular ones.
