Sorting and Working Cows & Calves at Ben's Ranch
We had a 6310, I tell you what:that thing was a tank! My plan is to by a 6X10 or 6X00 for my own seperate farm someday :)
Those are some of the best tractors you can buy right now. Not too old, not too new. Perfect mix of reliability and practicality. The ranch I work at has a bunch of late 90s and early 2000s 5, 6, and 7 series John Deere tractors and I just love them. Thanks for watching! - Everett
what state are you guys in? we do cow to calf to finished. just found you and always curious how folks set up their operations and gates and pens and how people handle their calves. [ohio]
Glad you found us! We're in VA. We've got some other videos on the ranch I work at. They do what I do on a larger scale in addition to a cow calf herd. I did a day in the life video of my boss that would be good to learn about their operation. Thanks for watching! Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/GOxYQYGCZuI/w-d-xo.html
Where u located
VA
I enjoy your videos! Do you ever have trouble with the baler shearing pins?
I have, yes! You have to really start your bales out extra slow on this particular model, or you will clog it. Thanks for watching! - Everett
good job
Thank you!
Good friends are priceless
For sure! I've been blessed with them! Thanks for watching! - Everett
What bailer did you use for the 1,200llb rounds
It's not mine, but I believe it's a John Deere 556 baler.
I like your videos. How many kilograms does this round bag weigh?
Those old TBI Chevys are tough!
Yes, they are!
if you have not used Trenbolone acetate implants (pick the brand) give it a try. you can get loads of growth in 60 days.
We have used them before, yes! Thank you!
Id go for some of THAT weather rn...its absurdly rainy here in the Pacific Northwet. Gonna be getting cold all across the States in a couple weeks, better make sure you're ready 'Rett.😂
😂 For sure! Thank you!
Its kind of a joke ! My neighbor always tells me that cattle over 500 pounds should be on full feed......in a feed lot. Over the last 40 years Ive seen him bring cattle in by semi. Everyone to this date has ended up out on pasture well beyond 800 pounds. Seems the same is being said in this video at 1:16 getting them bunk trained ? Raised cattle for years...and for sure I have learned early weaning is better for the calf ! The calves stomach develops earlier and the calves put on more weight. And by far less chance of scours !
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
Love your videos bro
Thank you!
Do you care if I made your farm in Farming Simulator 22
How much do y’all’s round bales weigh
Old timer told me two times out of the month blood does not flow so much.
Is there a certain lbs of feed you feed daily? And what % of feed do you feed
It's been almost two years, so I'd have to go back and look. But I would imagine I was feeding like 1.5 to 2% of their body weight per day and a Kalmbach 14% stocker grower feed.
What was that you were pouring on their heads, great video
It's Clean Up II. It's for lice. I've talked about it some in previous videos.
Beautiful border collie dog!
Thank you!
No they are not ugly!
Only kidding! They're great calves
I love cows
They're the best!
The calf’s are looking great put on some healthy size🇳🇿
Thanks!
Always nice to see another video on stocker calves, keep up the good work and God Bless!! 👍🏾👍🏾
Thank you! Appreciate it! God bless - Everett
thats great! you ever thought about trying heifers them selling them private for someone to breed?
Thanks! I haven't given it any thought before to be honest.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
I do all my servicing and fixing the week of thanksgiving since I’m off that whole week. The Napa filter sale is usually two weeks before so I get my filters ordered and make a list of everything that needs serviced and fixed and do it all then. So I won’t be doing it in the middle of hay season
Yeah, as long as it's minor maintenance/service, I don't like to do it ahead of the service intervals. Saves some money not changing the oil 100 hours early. All that kind of stuff adds up. Thanks for watching!
Great video as usual , miss seeing lachlan in the videos. He needs to make some of just him .
Agreed! He doesn't help much with the hay, but there just might be a video out soon with him. 👀 Thanks for watching! - Everett
this is vicon extra 228 :D
I think your granddad would be pleased that you appreciate his old reliable.
Absolutely! I cherish it. And it's running better than ever. Thanks for watching and God bless - Everett
it wasn't broekn it was just the belts slipping
Yeah no they weren’t
@ no it’s was coming from that compartment
We always do everything with our rear window open because things happen and if you don’t notice in time it only gets worse. Atleast you can hear it then.
Great video! How many acres do cut hay on?
It's gone up every year, but in 2024 it was 70 to 80 acres.
@@TwoFarmBoysin the video was that first field 70 acres? I’m trying to get an idea of how much hay land I need for 10 head of cattle in central Texas
@@antwangrant5767 That first field was probably 2 or 3 acres. This whole video was probably 20 to 25 acres total. It's hard to say how many acres you'd need for that. Personally, I recommend just buying hay for that number of cattle. Hay equipment is expensive and time consuming. Often times it makes more financial sense to buy it. But if you want to do it, I would do some research about the type of hay in your area, yields in your area, and talk to an extension agent. We're in VA so I'm not sure how much land you'd need in that part of the country. Let me know if you have any other questions. I've thought about doing some more educational videos in the future on the hay business. Thanks for watching and God bless - Everett
Always good to see a hay making video!
Thank you!
Everett...I don't really wanna hafta point out the obvious here...but...the past 3 or 4 vids only had ONE Farm Boy...where's the cute Doggo? We should atleast get a cameo.😅
Haha! Yes, he helps more on the cattle side of things than hay. Lol. I want to post a cattle video soon and I will make sure he is in that. Thanks for watching!
Always good to see a hay making video.
My dad has an M9540 as well. That’s the entire reason I clicked on this vid was because I thought it looked like an M9540.
Heck yeah! They're good tractors! Thanks for watching! - Everett
How much do you guys sell your bales for?
It depends on the quality and the size of the bale. These orchardgrass bales would have been for I believe $7 per bale.
What is the weight that you like to buy
It depends, but usually for the way I like to market them, 300 to 450 lbs.
We use a two grain pike to pitch the bales on the trailer heavy work but very fast. One man making the load and one pitching
Nice! Yeah, we've also talked about getting a pop-up bale loader to speed up the process. Thanks for watching! - Everett
How is the MPG? I'm very curious about the size and liters of this beautiful truck!
The MPG is really the only thing I hate about this truck. 10 is about the best it does. MAYBE 11 or 12 on the highway. But I pull a trailers a lot with it so often it's even worse. But it's got the 7.4L TBI big block and it has good power and low end torque. So reliable and simple that I can't complain about the MPG. Thanks!
Twine less than an inch of bale when lifting
Its nice that you can get the help that you have. In our area there aren't any younger guys willing to work that aren't already busy all summer. Have you seen the bale lifts that tag onto the side of your trailer and pop the bales up to grabbing height using the ground driven wheels? Typically, in our area, they are only a few hundred dollars and need a lil TLC...and would make great content because it adds a "driving contest" to the hay loading.😂
It's definitely a huge blessing! I'm friends with pretty much all of my help already. And I have seen those pop up bale loaders. I've been wanting to get one, but they're really hard to find in our part of the country actually. Hope to get one at some point though.
@TwoFarmBoys a sharp kid could build one in Shop class
The first guy stacking in the video for me actually offered to build one for me. Lol
@TwoFarmBoys I'd be happy to send pics and measurements off ours.👍
Great job guys , I know that is hard work .
Thank you!
ill give you a tip i learned the hard way. stack all the bales on edge in the barn not just the bottom layer, they keep their shape wayy better!!
Interesting. Good to know! Thanks!
A completely enjoyable video. I have a super 69 nh hayliner. Im excited to watch more of your videos. I also couldn’t hay without good friends. Cheers from So.ILL
Thank you! Yes, those older New Hollands are great! My neighbor had the exact same model baler as you actually. God bless - Everett
The fuel costing less and the oil changes being 1/3 the price of a diesel makes a big block a great choice. I just bought a 1992 K2500 regular cab 454 5 speed manual with 114,000 miles from it's second owner for $5600. It's a completely rust free truck from north Idaho. It goes well with our 2001 K2500 8.1 Suburban.
That's awesome! They're such good trucks! GM big blocks are such a good combination of reliability, simplicity, and power. God bless - Everett
Have you ever weighed one of those bales
I’m trying to find the deck belt for that exact deck, no where local seems to carry the 156 at all
