I didn’t just leave the theater feeling neutral, I left it feeling so so happy- an absolute joy from start to finish. This is a Nintendo film in the best way. So so fun and can’t wait to go see it again

You missed one detail. Mario's dad questioning why plumbers would wear white gloves. Mario says that it's a mark of distinction that makes them stand out, which is precisely the reason Shigeru Miyamoto designed the character like so.
When they went down to the pipe area and the underground theme was playing, there was a sign that said "level 1-2". The attention to detail is insane

I absolutely love Lumalee's nihilistic outlook lol. Also when Peach was talking about where she might be from, she specifically mentions there's a lot of "galaxies" out there.
This movie was incredible. I absolutely loved all the references.
7:45 you also forgot to mention when the two toad guards were telling Mario about the princess they say the princess is in another castle referencing to Super Mario Bros.
One thing I did like about the movie is that Mario and Peach, while they do flirt and are probably attracted to each other, don't immediately hook up since they have only known each other for a few days, a week at best, so, of course, they're not going to just jump into a relationship. However, I do hope the movie's inevitable sequels do build up their relationship more or make it canon (along with Daisy)

@@fearless3073 I'm sure they're going to do that in the inevitable sequels. As for Bowser, I'm 50/50. I'm fine with him just being a spoiled manchild who is so used to getting his way no matter what so the idea someone would dare say no to him is incomprehensible.

Real quick: I actually like the idea of Cranky being DK’s dad because it doesn’t erase DK jr, it makes MODERN DK and DK jr the same guy. I always found it confusing that after Super Mario Kart we never saw DK Jr. again, so this in my humble opinion is a better canon that removes unnecessary things.
Since Mario's dad is voiced by Martinet I was secretly wondering if Cranky and Mario's dad had history together. Shame there's no other hints towards this.

Sir, genuinely thank you. I left the theatre thinking to myself _there’s no way they pulled out a jar here, NOOOO! I know they’re not referencing_ that, _but still…_ That one little detail in the movie made me loathe at the cursed knowledge I’ve accumulated throughout my time on the internet, but you’ve given me a civilized plausible reference and I’m sticking with it.

God hearing the Superstar theme when Mario and Luigi powered up with it was so awesome, the music for this movie was INCREDIBLE
I think the king boo cameo is based off his design from the Mario Kart games, maybe combined a bit with his design from sunshine, based on the fact that his crown doesn't have a jewel and his eyes are just black ovals. This kind of implies that it's a different king boo from the Luigi's Mansion series, so a Luigi's Mansion movie could still definitely happen.
Or maybe he will get the gem and Luigi will have to stop him in Luigi’s mansion
I’ve always seen the king boo design from the Luigi’s mansion games as one king boo and the king boo that first appeared in super Mario sunshine is the same king boo that appears in Mario kart and all other spin-offs.
My theory is that King Boo thinks that working with Bowser is a waste of his time and that he just sends a clone of himself to do whatever Bowser wants.
@@cadendicky1855 The king boo in mario kart and the wedding here just looks like a normal boo but it's bigger so the Luigi's mansion king boo could have simply grew a boo and sent it off to do miscellaneous things like karting or attend weddings while the real king boo plots his next move

One more thing. When Mario and Luigi crash into the pipe area underground (I think), you may notice that the whole in the wall behind them is a silhouette of 8-bit Mario’s head

I loved this movie so freaking much. I was smiling the entire time, the amount of Easter eggs and callbacks to previous games made me tear up inside. I always loved mario and this move delivered ❤❤❤

One of my favorite references was the Ludwig Von Koopa on the piano because Ludwig Von Koopa was based on Ludwig Von Beethoven (A pianist).
Yes, and he said that was his name in the cartoons, it wasn't. His name in the cartoons was "Kooky Koopa," and he was the crazy inventor type for the villains.
Ludwig Von Koopa has always been his name in the games since his introduction in SMB3.

Actually, the name came after the design. Weren't there at least 2 popular TH-cam videos about how it was a guy from Nintendo of America who actually named the Koopalings because they didn't have names? And yes, the video I watched talked about how the cartoon had completely different names.
I love how the different breakdowns are finding different things. They did such a good job with this movie
My only critic about the movie was that it was a bit short, I would’ve loved to see more scenes of Bowser going to 2 more different lands taking their power stars
What were the other lands on the world map? One looked like desert land....are they part of the mushroom 🍄 kingdom?

One thing you missed is during the Kart customization part. The button used to confirm their selection is an “A” button from a GameCube controller.
Something important that ANYONE talks about is Mario and Luigi family OUF I LOVED THEM. Despite maybe that Mario's father is a little dissapointed of him, everyone in the family loves them inconditionally. Also Mario's grandpa trying to eat the spaguetti was so funny and adorable hhahsh
i also liked that mario didnt like mushrooms and luigi was taking them for him. luigi eats marios mushrooms. what do mushrooms do in the games? make you big! luigi bigger than mario cuz he eats his mushrooms lol

I loved the use of the music!
My favorite moment would had to have been before they entered the mushroom kingdom. The sewers felt like it was referencing the Mario bros. game, with all the pipes. It played part of the underground theme when Mario and Luigi go into the sewers. There was even a subtle reference to the original level where that plays, when Mario and Luigi start walking down the starts after being unable to stop the pipe problem. The sign next to them says Level 1-2! It said something above it, but I could read it in time.
the addition of king Boo could be hinting that they might make a Luigi's Mansion movie

That cafe with the Punch-Out stuff was actually called Punch-Out Cafe. We got a brief look at it.
Peaches Float isn't a smash reference she just does that in mario games.
Anyway I love all the little references and as someone who grew up with the mario series I got every reference well at least any of the game from the super mario bros game and onwards.
This movie blew my expectations and I'm happy for it.

As far as I'm aware of only 4 mario games [not smash] have peach with a float ability: 3d world, super princess peach, and Yoshi's island ds. Though I think only 2 of them does she use her dress to float.
Also, it's a super useful gameplay mechanic in some games like super paper where each of the 4 heroes (Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser)

One really cool thing that I noticed is that when they go underground before entering the mushroom kingdom, there's a sign that says Level 1-2 way in the back of the room and the music from world 1-2 of the original mario bros game was playing in that scene.
when they broke through the brick wall in the underground, the hole in the wall is formed like a pixel mario head
12:34, The sequence where Bowsers says “Peaches” multiple times with giant holographic copies of the Princess of Mushroom Kingdom herself arrive, the first 2 out of 11 giant holographic images appearing almost look similar to Peach’s Final Smash (Peach Blossom) from SSBB, SSB4, and SSBU.
Thought I was the only one who caught that!!!
When Mario was first going to the castle and in the background a toad asked at a shop “does this work” and another one responded “yes all you have to do is blow into it” the amount of Mario 3 nostalgia that washed over me! One toot on this whistle…
This was one of the two biggest surprises I didn't see coming from this movie, the other being the climax which is reminiscent of the Super Show episode "Flatbush Koopa".
I loved all the little references, even the obscure ones like the cheep cheep bridge scene that’s a nod to a level from super Mario bros
On the map during the commercial, you can see Hanfuda St (misspelling of Hanafuda)? and 1889 St. Nintendo was founded in 1889 as a Hanafuda playing card company.
There are bunch of other small details that you missed, like "The princess is in another castle" (classic), the Donkey Kong Arcade game being renamed to Jumpman, with a yeti instead of DK, and how Bowser keeps calling Peach, Peaches. Kinda weird but ok?
Probably need a rewatchable re-release to really catch EVERYTHING.

Gotta be honest about the Cranky Kong thing. It was weird to see it as a king of the Kong Kingdom, but about him being a father of DK, I'm ok with it. Always thought it was dumb and unnecessary that it was his grandfather and to pretend that DKj jr. (how was always ingnored anyway) was DK's father. It's just one of those insitances where fans take lore too seriously. I also loved the fact that Nintendo made an actual Jumpman character from this movie (and of course, it was awesome to finally see Mario and Luigi's parents and family).
13:40 this part is even better since, the background music is AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" for this scene~🤣

A detail I haven't seen anyone talk about is when they break the wall in the underground, it makes a pixel Mario head-shaped hole, which is insane

Ludwig Von Koopa is his full name in the games & majority of the Mario Series.
But he was named "Kooky Von Koopa" in the DiC cartoons.
You know there will be a theory on who first built the first warp pipes in the Brooklyn Sewer Junction.
I just realized something even crazier, and i highly doubt it was intentional, but it’s still cool. The baby luma is always talking morbidly saying there is nothing after we die and what not, and Mario Galaxy’s theme is also an extremely existential and somewhat depressing one, although not as bad as being a full on doomer like the luma

I loved this movie so much. Even better, my kids now love Mario (almost) as much as me. I think that now, after many long years of Bob Hoskins-induced agony, I won't tremble with fear and trepidation when someone mentions the Super Mario Bros movie
I just watched this last night and I loved this so much. It hit me right in the nostalgia. If it doesn't make over a billion dollars I'll be legit amazed.

This movie was a love letter to the fans and it was flawless.
The fact Giuseppe is real always makes me laugh cause I’ve always had a joke of Mario’s third brother is Giuseppe and would wear white to finish the Italian flag colors 🇮🇹
Nah the real third Mario brother is Peppino from Pizza Tower. I headcanon that they come from the same mother and Peppino's dad is possibly the same dad Wario has, even though he's obviously not Nintendo this is something i easily accept forever.
Two of my favorite Easter eggs is when the antique shop owner said "You just have to plow in it" and when one of the guards say "the princess is in another castle"

Also, my favorite Easter egg is “the odyssey” in Mario’s room
I think Peach’s story is hinting to Daisy existing in this universe too. Perhaps Peach wandered away from the rest of her family as they all came through the pipes, with her ending up in the mushroom kingdom and the rest ending up in sasaraland
I am so disappointed in myself. I was hoping there'd be the Odyssey or a little Cappy figure or something in Mario's room but apparently there the Odyssey is there, I just didn't see it
I just saw it today. Not a single boring or slow part in the movie. It was like roller coaster ride type fun. I'm gonna go watch it again and I don't normally do that.

You forgot the part where the toad guards were messing around fooling mario that it was the wrong castle and no princess was there, making a refrence to the NES games where the toads you saved told you the same thing after rescuing them.
I had soo much fun in this movie! It was so nice to leave happy after a movie instead of underwhelmed.
This movie was utterly fantastic I LOVED IT, and as a punch out fan I was soooo happy
One thing I was very hype for is how Mario's forward aerial from Smash Bros got a lot of love, being blocked by Donkey Kong in the first fight but used in tandem with Luigi to knock Bowser down after the Mario 64 spin.
Very reminiscent of the Smash Bros Ultimate "More Fighters" commercial trailer, I didn't know the move was that iconic but I'm happy to see it, it's an incredibly satisfying one.
Absolutely loved all the references. It’s weird that they called the star a Super Star though instead of Power Star.

Because they ARE two different things. Super Star is the traditional star powerup that makes one invincible and slightly faster for a short duration. Power Star is the collectable that came from Mario 64.

I’m probably looking to far into this, but Peach calling the jungle the Jungle Kingdom seems like a tease for Mario Odyssey 2. But also she says “There’s a lot of galaxies out there” possibly teasing a Galaxy 3 or Galaxy 2 switch port, so I’m probably wrong

I watched the movie last night. It was amazing and magical and it gave me everything that I needed to see in the movie. Literally my favorite movie of all time and I will be watching it over and over again
the fact that so many people predicted how the movie started was amazing
Also, during the Kart selection scene there's a random Drake and Vasquez "cameo" from Aliens... that reference was cool
I saw this movie two times on opening day (long story) but there's two things that I noticed that weren't in this video
1. During the beginning in the Mario bros commercial the intro to the super mario bros super show was playing (if you mentioned this in the other video, I haven't watched it yet, I plan on doing it after I write this)
2. During the Rainbow road scene, Mario gained a boost and jumpped to another side of the track, referencing the speed runner trick used in Mario kart 64.
i stopped watching any promo material after the second trailer, and going into the theater i told my brother that if there wasn't a reference to the super mario super show (a show i somehow watched as a kid despite not being born in the 80s) i would riot

There was also a transparent white Pikmin statue in the fancy apartment. There was also also a game and watch on the one sign in the construction site. And peach could float in Mario 2. And they make a joke about having items on from smash.
