Oh I love this video. Last winter I was driving across the US, and found what I thought was an empty shell on the sidewalk at a gas station. It was below freezing. I put the shell in the cupholder and drove around the US for 3 weeks (!) When I came home, I put the shell on the kitchen table & unpacked the car...came back to find my new slime child crawling all over the table eating crumbs. Named them Grover (creative I know) and let them live in a flower pot for a while until I got a new setup. I would have probably out them back outside if it wasn't the middle of winter, and now I'm glad I didn't because I have tiny friends I can make tiny salads for. 🥗🐌
I just got my grove snails today, and I ADORE THEM. You were spot on about them having different personalities!! One of them - one that looks like your striped one you showed up close - seems super outgoing and quirky. He let me feed him slices of carrot by hand as he hung upside down, which was so cute, and he eventually took a nap out of his shell and everything but with eye stalks retracted. 😂😍 And the other one, which is like a chocolate brown color, seems to just want to eat and eat. She also slept out in the open twice already, both times with her eye stalks kinda half out but drooped. I want to do everything right for these critters - I knew snails were cute but I didn't know they were so fun and very interesting! I just had to share since your video helped me with the care info. :)

I have been a snail keeper for about a year, here are some tips. I would recommend using coconut bedding for hermit crabs or any other breed of animal, it isn’t toxic and it 100% safe for the snails and it makes them feel more comfortable. Wash your tanks side daily. I am not hating on her video at all, but I can tell she hasn’t cleaned her tank in weeks. The walls were coated in poop. She did not have the proper plants and moss. They NEED that moss and plants that they can eat. For food. They can eat: lettuce, celery, potato’s, THEY LOVE CARROTS, and a lot more greens. Any fruits except citric. Don’t pick them up because you will break there mantle and it is a very slow and painful death. If you need to pick them up slide them off unti, they fall of whatever they are suctioned to. If they have babies, don’t let them go! Make sure you allow them to hatch, or cull them. Have a fun time having snails everyone!❤
When you really need to pick up a snail from a flat surface, just tap them softly (emphasis on "softly"). That startles them a bit and the will let loose from the surface just a few seconds. Snails are easy going and after a few seconds they'll come out of their shells wondering where that smooth surface is again.
Thanks for the info! I'm kinda new to the world of snails as pets, so any information is helpful. Still trying to figure out if mine is just a deep sleeper? Or if he's in hibernation? But thanks!
Can i add wild isopods into my coco coir? If so, do i still have to clean the substrate? Also, how do i move baby snails into a bigger tank without hurting them? Thanks! 😊 also how do u clean coco coir?
hey gus, some question. I've been keeping mine in a fairly sterile jar for about a year now and they seem to be pretty happy. I also feed them egg shells so they get the calcium. my main concern is if I'm missing some minerals that cannot be found unless I put dirt in the jar. I really don't want to put dirt in the jar because it makes it hard to clean, and I keep the snails on my desk as a piece of decor (so it can't get too messy). so I'm wondering if there are some minerals I should be aware of, and I can try to give them hmmmm
snails need dirt, yes! not just for minerals, but to burrow in and to maintain moisture. If you want a non messy piece of decor, I suggest a marimo ball, or maybe aquatic snails! Snails come from the outside where there is dirt, they need it to be taken care of completely.
I found a Grove snail on my steps on Long Island, NY. It was just a broken shell. Probably eaten by a bird. Found another Grove nearby that looked ok. Put it in a pot with plants on my balcony. Curious to see if it will be there tomorrow?
So, I found what I thought was an empty Grove Snail shell two days ago, it was completely dried out and I decided to take them home. Earlier I got bored and put it in water for a bit AND THE SNAIL REVIVED AND IS NOW CHILLING IN A MASON JAR. He is about the size of a nickle and he's just staying there for the night until I can get him a proper set up. Hence why I'm here
they honestly don't require a lot. I've been keeping mine in just a jar with a sock covering the top for air. they'll eat any green vegetables, mine happen to love peas (like the one in the frozen veggie package lol!). but do make sure to give them some egg shell to gnaw on, they need the calcium
hii! I have a question, I found two baby snails severely injured next to their presumably dead mother, me and my friend took them and I have one at home. I know snails have very weird sleep schedules but mine stopped being active and its the second day. I dont know if there is something wrong or if it is normal?

Hello! I'm getting a brown lipped brown snail so will I break the tank rule if I put a brown lipped snail in a tank ? I don't have one but questioning but I'm still putting research tho
Hey, I had a question and can't seem to find your Instagram. I just kidnapped my self a little quarantine friend. Will they be ok living in a Tupperware that had holes in it? It's a nice little grove snail. It is just sitting on the roof and not eating.
1:59 you shouldnt keep slugs with snails bause they eat snails. If you have anything hard you should cover it with moss because they could fall on it and break their shells. You have to make sure your soil is chemical, fertilizer and pesticide free. Its best to keep your baby snails in a smaller temorary tank with lots of food because they need to spend most of their time eating. You also need a CONSTANT supply of calcium. Also always wash your hands before and after handling them
they track a lot of dirt (and also sh*t) everywhere they go! thats what my 20 gal tank with about seven snails looked like after about a week and a half of not cleaning it!
A reminder that you shouldn’t only give them cuttlefish bone or eggshells when their shells start looking weird. You should have either cuttlefish bone or eggshells in their tank at all times. They need a good source of calcium always available so they can strengthen their shell
There are a fue problems with this snail setup #1 potting soil is very toixc for snails and have added chemicals that will kill them use eco eco-earth you can get it off Amazon of at your local reptile store #2 don’t put any ceramics Glass rocks or hard things unless you are gonna cover it with moss it is a huge risk to there shells
