I used to keep an oiling can with gas in it to prime the car before starting. A couple of squirts down the carburetor and it fires right up. Now a days, with fuel injection we no longer have to squirt anything.

I believe my dad said grandpa had a 56, with the dual 4s.
Correct me and him if needed, and 56 didn't have dual 4s but i thought he did say it was a 56.
Im passing along 2nd generation info 😀
Anyways, Dad said it also had electric overdrive.
I guess grandpa rewired the kickdown thru the overdrive with another switch.
Punch it in 3rd overdrive, and that would kick it down to 2nd and drop the overdrive and make the tail get a little loose around 40mph and then get its hat and leave. 😀

Yes, I don't believe the dual quad E code was available in 56.

Nice car. I would never use starting fluid on a classic car. Starting fluid is ether, it burns super hot, and can burn holes in pistons. It was originally designed for diesel engines, not gasoline engines. I have two classic cars, a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner 383/four speed, and a 1970 Dodge Challenger RT 383/4 speed. Apart from going to a local car show once in a while, I usually drive them around locally early Sunday mornings, when there is little traffic on the streets. I alternate between them, one car one week, the other car the next week. I take them out and run them at highway speeds for 20 miles or so every few months. I always let them completely warm up before taking off. The problem with letting them sit for a while, is that the fuel evaporates out of the float bowl. So the accelerator pump won't work until the fuel pump has filled the float bowl, which can sometimes take a while. If that is a problem, remove the air cleaner, and fill the float bowl though the bowl vent with a squeeze bottle with a nozzle on it. That will be enough to start the engine and keep it running until the fuel pump is pumping fuel into the float bowl.

You've got some great cars! I think the difference between starting fluids in the past and now is that they now have additional upper cylinder lubrication/oil in the formula. For example www.motortrend.com/how-to/start-old-car-hasnt-run-years/ it notes, "Starting fluid goes a long way and lasts a longtime. The black can of Valvoline Pyroil must be 20 years old and contains upper cylinder lubricants good for an old engine that sat for a long period of time."

ha, he'd wrong. the oil part did not remain a vapor. it condensed on the surface where it was sprayed. goof.
