Thank you Ajahn Brahm you are a light in this world and most people who hear you know this to be true. I am grateful for your humor as many of us take ourselves and others far too seriously. Much gratitude from the heart.
I've noticed the salutation to the triple gem chant at the end of the Friday night talks have been muted lately, could you please bring the audio back for them?
My understanding of the zen stick is that it is intended to help the person dozing off to stay awake. The recipient (who shares this perspective) expresses gratitude in response. Namaste.
I strongly urge you to experiment and find a nice, stable, comfortable sitting posture. You will find it very difficult to experience deep states of samadhi without that. I have chronic hip pain that started last May. I spent several months experimenting with different postures, different cushions, benches, chairs, and so on. I tried just about everything. I finally cobbled together a combination of an inflatable, crescent shaped meditation cushion that sits on top of a homemade bench. The bench raises the cushion about 2" about the floor. I have also had success using BioFreeze ointment. Another aspect to this is the mental part which Ajahn Brahm addresses in this talk. There is the pain and there is how we relate to the pain. Try to just let the pain be. Avoid having an adversarial relationship to the pain. This just makes it worse. A somewhat different approach is to find a place in the body where there are pleasant sensations. Put your attention on those and let any discomfort fade into the background. Pain can be very challenging. I speak from experience! So best of luck. Be patient and persistent, and hopefully you will find a solid, comfortable way to sit.
I also have arthritis. Some years ago I started taking omega-3 supplements for dry eye. I live in the desert and this is a common problem. The supplements I take are called “TheraTears.” Sometime later I realized that my arthritis symptom had all but disappeared. It took over a year. When I did some research I discovered that omega-3 supplements can have this effect. As I said, this takes over a year, so you have to be patient. Another thing to try is walking meditation. For some reason walking meditation is often treated as a second-class citizen. But you can attain very deep states of meditation by walking. In Thailand some monks do four or five hours of walking meditation every day. It is their main practice. The leg muscles can tighten up so you may have to do some stretching exercises. But if you alternate walking and sitting, this may help. Meditation requires creativity and problem solving. Teachers can help, but at the end of the day you know your body and mind best. Trust your own inner wisdom. The Buddha himself did a lot of reflection. Thinking in Buddhism often gets a bad name, but the Buddha looked at what he did and what effect it had. There was a lot of failure in his practice. And your practice will be different on different days. Meditation is a skill. It is a craft. Develop it in that way.

How do you guys sit full lotus without being in pain? I have arthritis in my knees now and I can no longer sit full lotus do to the pain. 🙏🏼
Sit in any comfortable position that you want. You just need to take it easy.

Here are a few more things that may help.

'Bad joke' made me laugh, so it couldn't be that bad.
I bet the Ajahn Bra would be incredibly comfortable to wear. I'm a guy, and even I would want that kind of breast support and compassion 😉🙃
Brilliant in their fields & stupid in life
