Quik is hands down one of my favorite rappers of all time. His talent is untouchable, not only is he a dope rapper, he is a top tier producer and can even play instruments and make smooth jazz music. I still feel like he doesn't truly get the props that he deserves. He's the defintion of multi-talented.
Dj quik , greatest producer /emcee from LA. He engineered/mixed All eyez on me for Pac You might want to check out “late night “ produced by quik ft. Forgot to mention mausberg. Who was quik’s protege and was killed before his first album was released on Fourth of July. He was also basically the west coast biggie
And once you dide that go to the Penthouse Players Clique. Also check out the on Death Row unreleased 2nd II None album. And the very rare Darkside Heat Misers album.
the female on the hook is sampled from the song "Betty Wright - Tonight is the night". The bass/key sample is "Kleeer - Tonight" (yes, that is 3 e's in Kleeer. Kleeer has another song "Intimate Connection" that Dre used for California Love.
Quick is a West coast legend, a brilliant producer and he flow is oh so smooth. Planty more hits from this man you will have a chance to react to even so.e more current 2000s.
"Can't Fuck Wit A Nigga" (House of Pain Diss) by; Dj Quik & 1996 Banger "Return of the Mack" by: Mark Morrison...Dj Quik also did the "Heartz of Men" Instrumental for 2PAC
Quik is the best from the west! Greatest producer, versatile flows! Oh you're in for a journey with Quik. I recommend Heartz of Men and Late Nite, underrated collabs with Pac. He produced Suga Free's first album Street Gospel. Timeless piece.
This dropped my sophomore year and I won't dare share the stories of how this anthemed our life w songs like this, jodeci forever my lady album, heavy d is it good to you, n many more....😂😎 yea man tap in cuz you on the propa frequency nefew👊🏾
Only bad thing about that table freestyle is audio is not best but damn me if it isn't some of the freestyle captured on video from that time. Sugar free still coming with it and in 2020s and much live is show to him from the West. He is a very special person to me in hip hop.
If Patrice Rushen (musical genius... check her out) and Prince (another musical genius) had a child, his name would be David Martin Blake... and the world would call him DJ QUIK.
Yea great rapper/producer AND he engineers his own music . If u ever get a new system in the whip and want to make sure your sound is tuned right you play some quik while doing so. His sound is so crisp and clean. It sounds great on a wack system too lol
1991 classic, Played At every barbecue Check out: Medley For A "V" (The P^^sy Medley) (pro) U ain’t fresh (produced) Well ft Raphael Saadiq and Mausberg (pro) Do Whatcha Want ft.Digital Underground & AMG (produced) 2pac -Words to my firstborn (produced)
Nice one. I remember when this came out my boy had it and assumed Eazy E was going by a different name. That's Betty White on the sample. Dope track. Try some Spice 1 (Nigga gots no Heart) and MC Eiht (We Come Strapped or Compton Cyco or All For The Money or Straight Up Menance). Can't remember if you did Quik's Jus Like Compton, but that's probably my favorite cut of his. Dope producer though.
I remember my friend asking me if I heard the new Eazy E song called Bomb Bud, and I went to all the stores looking for it. Turns out it was DJ QUIK, and I've been a fan ever since.
you caught on to the instrumentation. that's a big part of his production style. definitely do more. look for AMG and suga free features too. i'd love your thoughts on a later quik/AMG song they did as the fixxers called "can u werk wit dat." different approach for them both, but hit hard. i also recommend dollaz + sense.
Balance and Options and The book of David where good albums bringing his music into the 2000s. Although those aren't the latest, they have some memorable hits.
Him and MC Eight had beef back in the day and did some diss tracks. You should review "Dollars and Sense" by DJ Quick as well as Compton's Most Wanted (MC Eight) "Def Wish" both are diss tracks against one another. This is one of the few Blood vs Crip feuds that played out in the music back in the day. By the way you need to throw some love to MC Eight, his "We Come Strapped" album is a certified no skip classic. Pick any song off that album. Good Review Ahmad...keep em coming.
Maybe 1st or 2nd tape I bought. Begged my Dad for money to buy his album. Headphones on I was listening to the 1st song on the album and if your familiar it's called Sweet Black Pussy. My dad walks in and says let me see what I gave you money for... I was scared no lie. He goes all he does is curse.. and handed the walkman back to me. 😂
You gotta get quik group 2nd to none in the rotation esp the 1st album, uhhh hi c, suga free , n then souls of mischief medication to start but you got the whole hieroglyphics crew which includes cube lol bro del the funky homosapien ...aww man u in trouble
I'm born in 74...... The censorship battle is really the problem because it changes the lyrics to make them sound kind of corny...... Either way thank you for doing this video

I grew up as a Teenager in the mid 90’s on the West Coast. From San Diego to LA. Best era ever with Rap and House Parties.

the female on the hook is sampled from the song "Betty Wright - Tonight is the night". The bass/key sample is "Kleeer - Tonight" (yes, that is 3 e's in Kleeer. Kleeer has another song "Intimate Connection" that Dre used for California Love.
DJ Quik always felt like everyday Cali life for us back then.
"Tonight Is The Night" by Betty Wright, is where you heard the hook

DJ Quick overall underappreciated. West Coast Legend one of the best Rapper/Producers.
Yes sir. Check out DJ Quik "Youz'a gangster", Safe and sound" , "When you're a G", "Just like Compton"... for starters. He has so many.
Dj Quik - Born and raised in compton
The hook comes from Betty Wright's song tonight is the night
Quick was nice with it. This cut is what's made me start listening to the west coast flows.
Stop the violence movement - Self Destruction

Get into some Sugafree while you at it. Specifically the table freestyle where he did the beat AND raps at the same time
Only bad thing about that table freestyle is audio is not best but damn me if it isn't some of the freestyle captured on video from that time. Sugar free still coming with it and in 2020s and much live is show to him from the West. He is a very special person to me in hip hop.
@@socalcali maybe he can check it out during his live stream then. He listens to random freestyles
Quik is so crazy underrated. If you're gonna do more I'd recommend Born and Raised In Compton, Dollaz + Sense and Get At Me.
I never once thunked in 1985-1995 listening to rap I would be watching a young cat checking out music I dug back then and digging years later. Crazy.
damn you got the PG13 version of the song.
The hook you was listening to is from a song called Tonight is the night by Betty Wright
Betty Wright Tonight's the Night is the sample
If Patrice Rushen (musical genius... check her out) and Prince (another musical genius) had a child, his name would be David Martin Blake... and the world would call him DJ QUIK.
One of the most underrated producers in my opinion
My favourite dj hands down lol great rapper too

Dj Quik born & raised in compton
Betty Wright and Kleer are the samples❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 Dollarz and Sense has to be next...hardest Diss track from the West Coast. MC Eiht diss
Quik is like the first Kanye but with bars and without the antics. Quik had the lyricism and production. He was a gem.
Yea great rapper/producer AND he engineers his own music . If u ever get a new system in the whip and want to make sure your sound is tuned right you play some quik while doing so. His sound is so crisp and clean. It sounds great on a wack system too lol
