My first impression was unsure about the approach, but I kept watching it and I love it! This is honestly perfect 😁😁 (first time watcher)
I think another reason companies would say "thrives in low indirect sunlight" is because people CANNOT FOLLOW DIRECTIONS... Oh my gosh lol. I have worked for 5 years as a cashier in a local plant shop that gives great consultation on how to take care of plants in our zone and SOO many people do not listen and many who come in for advice like to tell you that you are wrong lmao... It is easier to kindly treat the general public like they are... Ignorant... just the truth. Anyone who has worked in retail know what I mean lol.
This is great and detailed advice ❤❤

Arid and at best sub-tropical climates in which the ZZ grows, are NOT rainforests, no matter how many pleonasms or wrongly implemented academic references you would like to use.
Arid-does not mean desert. It often refers to savannahs in the plant world, and they often experience both a dryer, more desert-like state, as well as a rainperiod, in which it transforms into an almost subtropical climate for a short period of time. The ZZ can adapt to it all, with its rhizomes, as already was stated plainly above.
Go plant yerself somewhere, you seem in need of grounding!

Plus, unless you live in a green house, you can have a variety of plants in limited space. Then you can save up & buy the large size of your favorite one!! thank you for confirming to me that "bright indirect light" means absolutely nothing of value. I tried for so long to keep the direct rays of sun off my plants, until i finally realized that most of them do quite well in those rays. At this point, i basically just assume any new plant I get will do best near the window, and gradually move them away as i see how well they tolerate lower light.

I have a hoya it is honestly a beast of a plant. A friend shipped me a cutting during Christmas from Estonia to Ireland the package took approx 5 weeks to arrive and I'm pretty sure it nearly froze multiple times and was left on my porch but that cutting survived and is growing strong despite my cat tipping the pot over more then once.

Truth is a lot of these companies/big box stores are hoping you kill your plant... Why? To keep you spending money. This is why it's super important to support local nurseries who will want your plant to thrive, and will always help you do so. Also the genetics of plants will typically be of higher quality... It's all about those genetics peoples.

I know this is a joke, but: most of the time when plants die from "overwatering" they don't actually literally die from too much water, they die from rot which is caused by too much water. The microbes that cause rot like to live in soggy soil, but they can't live in plain water, which is why plants in hydroculture don't rot to death!

which ones will go perfectly well in an apartment with bad windows.
and which ones can tolerate the window that COOKS all your plants.
by the by, the best test is the hand shadow test. hold your hand about where the top or side of the plant would be, and look at the shadow it casts on a white paper.
crisp clear edges? clear hand shape? thats HIGH light
soft edges but clear hand shape, just... blurred? MEDIUM light

When talking about "bright indirect light" I have two guides I use. The first comes from Berenice Brilmayer's All About Begonias, written about 1950. She said, "If you can read a phone book there, you can grow begonias there." Since Phone books are a thing of the past, now I would say, "If you can read the fine print on a Pringles can." The other came from a book on African Violets. He said to hold your hand about a foot above your plants. If you could see the moving shadow of your hand on the leaves of the plant, that is enough light. Remember that these refer to plants that like fairly low light. I find the shadow test most helpful. If there is not enough light to cast a shadow, don't put your plant there.

Fiddle figs do better with 4+ hours of direct sunlight, than "Place your fiddle figs indirect light". The issue is that 5 hours of direct sunlight will burn the cells/leaves when the humidity in the home is low.
-Second, if your indoor plant is getting low-light...the lower leaves are getting NO LIGHT.
-Outdoor full shade is 17,000 LUX of light. Low light indoors is like 50 to 500 LUX of light...I hope everyone sees the issue.

I love this! Give me the TOOLS, man! I’ve long suspected I’d do better with “if this, then that” plant info than I would with kinda generic yet hyper-specific per-plant rules. I can’t remember all that and I’m not really _learning_ anything, just memorizing. This is LEARNING. thank you!
Info I’d like to understand better- how leaf structure might indicate light, water, humidity. How root structure might indicate these things, and how fast things grow- like it seems as if I’ve noticed that shallow or small root structures grow slowly? Snake plants and Hoyas? Wait that makes no sense bc begonias have shallow small root systems, right?
ALSO- are there things that are perfectly normal that ppl may mistake for plant pests or plant problems? I don’t mind hyper-specific info when it comes to anecdotal problem solving stories with plants where there are reference images for things, I think the more “see this thing? This thing is _____” bc descriptions are too subjective like wtf is “wilting” and why is it different from “curling”
Anyways love your vids, love your plants, love your lessons, I’m commenting for the algorithm and I’m overdoing it bc I’m a Hermoine Grainger type 4 SHO.

I need gardening gods and the heavens they create to help me with this conundrum PLEASE!!! 😭🙏
SO, I'm growing a miniature rose for the first time in my life because I got it as a present. I'm determined to not let this plant die no matter what. (It was gifted to me for a very special reason)
This miniature rose has tried me and pushed me beyond my limits. I've put it into light and I'm watering it the way I would a normal rose plant. This rose started drying up. It's flower petals and flower buds are drying up, at the same time it's getting yellow leaves. So the plant is too dry and too wet at the same time????
Just yesterday I noticed it's getting black spots and I've cut that off. This hasn't slowed down the rose from slowly dying though. What do I do??? I own roses and they're planted outside, I've been really successful in growing large rose bushes and even propagated my roses by taking rose cuts. I made sure the soil is just right for the miniature rose. I have done so much and yet I don't know why it's drying out and over watered at the same time. What must I do? More experienced gardeners please help 🙏 I need your wisdom please 🙏
