    My Grandfather bought two of them when he was serving in the Army during the Korean War era with the Signal Corps in Austria. One of them he used heavily and the other he kept very well protected, almost new condition. When he passed away last december that second camera, practically new, fell to me. Waiting on my first roll of film to come back from Walgreens, fingers crossed.

    I used a C3 in 11th grade photography class back in 1975. I still have it. Also have my father's C3 that he bought shortly after WWII ended.

      @@stephenarling1667 I've been a WW2 buff since I was 8yo reading about the Battle of Britain.
      Just picked up an Argus C3 this morning for $20, was reading about Mr. Vaccaro, and sadly he passed away December 2022.
      I have some film, and Vaccaro's book "Entering Germany: 1944-1949" on order now.

    Just got around to actually using an argus c3 i bought a while back in a thrift store. I, being a monster who messes things up, did cut part of the leatherette off to get to the screws (i hated peeling up the leatherette). But its all clean now, and its time for some pics!

      Hey! II got one today and want to try shooting it, but I'm confused on something, maybe you can help? When looking at the rangefinder to focus on something, when I adjust the lens's focus, nothing changes in the range finder, is that supposed to be that way? It's always the same focus, nothing changes in the rangefinder when I fiddle with the lens.

      In the instance that you come across another film camera that you would like check for film. Don't open the back door. Light will destroy any images on the roll and they will develop black. Instead you can wind the film advance to see if there's tension, if so it is loaded. (:

    My Father gave me one of these in the early 1970s. I took many great photos with it. If you forget to advance the film after each shot you would get double exposures, which I did quite a few times at first.

    I have an Argus c3 from 1947 and when I look through the rangefinder to focus it does nothing. The blue and yellow parts of the glass do nothing. They don’t focus or move or anything and I can’t find anything online that addresses this issue. It’s frustrating and in an attempt to “fix” it I messed with the screws on top of the camera underneath the rangefinder adjusting cap and now it’s completely out of wack and I don’t know how to adjust it back. Really irritating.

    Built from the early 1940s to late 1950s, the C3 was common as dirt when I started in photography in 1959. They were called "the brick" because they are that size and weight, and are probably better as a brick than a camera. Optics are bare minimal. Design has no modern features. Build quality sucks. They were common as dirt because they were cheap as dirt when new. In 1960, a used one was about $10, if it worked. When I see someone today crowing about a good deal at $30-50, I laugh. When you see folks buying them for up to $100, well, that's the peer power of social media I guess - Argus C3 as fashion accessory - wow.. Little known fact: The C3 has interchangeable lenses. Steinheil in Germany adapted a 35mm and 100mm from their line-up to the C3 mount for sale by Argus in the US (so-called "Sandmar"). So-so lenses, but rare as hell.; When new, they each cost about as much as the whole C3 camera.

    • @thatonebear6848
      @thatonebear6848 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got a 100mm Sandmar lense with it's little leather case when I bought two argus cameras together. I'm glad I bought it because it's still functional aperture and all. I hope I can get some decent photos with it once I clean up and lubricate the one argus I'm gonna use.

    • @randallstewart175
      @randallstewart175 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thatonebear6848 Suggest you carefully film test your rangefinder and adjust if necessary. I do not recall whether the accessory lenses couple to the rangefinder (I rather doubt it), but you will need an accurate distance measurement to have a hope of focusing that 100mm Sandmar. If you are really interested in building a usable Argus rangefinder system, consider replacing the C3 with a C-33, or better, a C-44. Better build quality, much better lenses (the standard 50mm 2.8 was the first computer designed lens ever made), and a decent supply of reasonably priced and useful accessories. I considered doing this myself several times, but the last thing I need is another camera system I would hardly use.
