  • Hello, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ.
    This video is about my icon corner (worship space) a brief history of icons, and veneration of them since the early church days. First and foremost, I forgot to mention that St. Luke the Evangelist was the first person in the Bible to write (paint) the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus. As y’all don’t know, icons (image) not graven images are, are called “spiritual windows” into heaven as my spiritual father and priest quoted a while back. God bless y’all! Enjoy my short lecture on icons used in Orthodox Christianity.

      Yeah, I also learned about icons and the iconoclasm period in my college humanities class. The Christ Pantocrator of Mount Sinai from the 6th century A.D. is one of the oldest Holy Byzantine icons in the world.

    My friend, I was Pentecostal for most of my life as well, and like you I found the truth in the Eastern Orthodox Church!

    I am almost 57 and taking Catechuman classes. Following in the ancient faith of my grandpa. If you get a chance to go to Greece please do. Such a wonderful experience.

      @@CK-Rock-Lava I will once I save up enough money. I’d like to visit Mount Athos. As for the Eastern Orthodox faith, I’m glad and proud that you’re a seeker. I was raised Pentecostal and I did get baptized in a Southern Baptist church due to my dad’s side.

      @@miroslavakostic I originate from northeast GA. I’m also a White Southern convert from the Pentecostal church to the Greek Orthodox Church. I converted 3 1/2 years ago and sometimes I’ll go to the Antiochian parish.

      Awesome! Well, I am a white Southerner from the Deep South who was raised in the Pentecostal movement and converted to the Greek Orthodox Church 3 years ago. You’d be surprised that there are a lot of Southern converts here in America. We like to say, “Ortho-Dixie!”

      @@j.k.a.a Yes, I converted 3 years ago. I actually was raised as a Pentecostal and Southern Baptist, but came home to the Eastern Orthodox Church December 20, 2020. Although controversial, I’m content and grateful to be part of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

      @@elijahc.brooks3493 Kinda. For me since it’s during Pascha I have the Resurrection Icon in the front middle and a lot of white cloths draping and such. And I’ll do the same for Pentecost with Green and Dormition with blue. And also I will put specific saints up in the middle if it’s their feast day.

      @Greek Orthodoxy I don’t understand… They said put Christ on the right and the Virgin Mary on the Left side. What’s not traditional about it?

      @@elijahc.brooks3493 The Main thing is your missing a cross, and I don’t know your patron Saint but he doesn’t seem to be next to the Theotokos and churches patron Saint next to Christ

      @@greekorthodoxy I have a Russian Orthodox Cross hung up on my wall above my bed. I did have a cross but the Byzantine eagle oil lamp covered too much space. Go to Smyrna, My Beloved Movie Review and you’ll see my Russian Orthodox cross. Thanks for the tip about my patron saint, too.

      @Greek Orthodoxy My patron saint is Elijah (Elias) the Prophet and he’s under my icon of Christ the Pantocrator.
