I'm only judging your scrap-hoarding positively. You KNEW you would need that tiny bit of zebra wood someday. They all laughed, and they called you names like Dust Keeper, and other things less savoury, but now the laughter has stopped. Because they were WRONG. And you - YOU were RIGHT!
I must have spent half my day yesterday looking for a pencil (I kept finding the mechanical one with no lead). It never occurred to me to look in the rectangular tube on my table saw. Great idea that I'll be putting to use. Thanks.
Don't be too hard on yourself and your scrap hoarding... I have tasty off cuts from 30 years ago lurking in my workshop... Neat idea and well executed.
I like your approach with the magnets, Dave. So many uses for those wonderful things. I always have some around. The zebrawood is a nice finishing touch. I have a couple scraps of birds eye maple around that will go nicely for door fronts on mine (when I get around to making them.). Thanks for the video, although I think I might use mine to store a few Twizzlers for those times when coffee just doesn't do it. :-)
@@dkbuilds After 6 months I'm finally remembering to making a couple of these drawers. I had to watch the video again to remember how you tackled the bolt issue. Off to the shop. Hi-ho Silver and away! (think I'm dating myself with that one)
I made the same draw but only on one side. I put the rubber insert back on with a few adjustments so it opens easy. I didn’t want it to look like a draw was there I couldn’t tell you why but I dig the zebra draw front on yours it looks great. Love your channel and editing great job
Brilliant, dude! Really neat little project! 😃 I don't think my table saw has a tube like that... But I'm definitely going to look around my workshop to see where I could fit some! 😂 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Or you could use a mechanical pencil and clip it in your top apron pocket like I do. I love the Pentel GraphGear 1000 because it retracts the whole tip of the pencil for protection.
Other commenters have given some good solutions to that -- you could use washers on the bolt to prevent it from screwing in so far / sticking up so high. Either way good luck and let me know how it turns out!
I know it doesn't matter but I cringed when I saw you using the same rounded material for the end and front of the drawer😬 You could have at least rounded the side pieces corners to match them🤔😅 Anyways... Just a thought.🤔 Love how you go through everything step by step and even suggested how to improve the project! 🤘😎👍
I know I felt bad doing that too but it was far more efficient to create the drawer this way. I would never do that on an actual piece of furniture, only on shop drawers... even then it still didn't feel right! Thanks for commenting Armand I really appreciate the feedback!
I thought about that too actually! Another commenter recommended adding some washers to the bolt to shim it down a bit, which should also work. Thanks for the tip Mad!
LOL I was _seriously_ tempted to do one drawer like this, and the other with all hand tools and half blinds 😂 Video would've gone from 8 mins to 2 hours though 😆
Thank you for watching! Please like and *subscribe* if you enjoyed this video, it means a lot to me. Leave a comment and I guarantee I'll reply!

Hahaha I like your attitude OEE! DK = Dust Keeper lol 😂
Clever and nice and tidy job for ur pencils.
Thanks Gerald! :)
Awesome addition to the main tool 👊🏼
Thanks so much Vet!!
Nice to see you back. Nice video.
Thans Danny!
Thanks for sharing those tips and the make!
Thanks for watching and commenting, Hassan!
That zebra wood kicked it up a notch. Nice job!
Thanks Terri!! 🙏
A pretty genius place to put pencils👍
Thanks Tzvi!
Brilliant solution!
Thanks CK!

I've been there for sure. Thanks for watching Ian!

30 years wow! Thanks for the encouragement Dingo!
Very good idea. Thank you very much!
Thanks for watching Voron! Always happy to see you in the comments!

LOL love the idea about storing Twizzlers in there haha. Thanks, Don!

@@DonsWoodies LOL I love it. Don't forget the unnecessary zebrawood flair when you build yours, Don!
Great idea
Thanks Vern!
Great solution to a common problem. Love the zebra wood accent. Thanks for sharing this one.
Thanks, MM! Glad you liked it!
Very nice my bro
Thanks Pot!
Cool idea!
Thanks Austin!
GENIUS!
Thank you Ira!!
Very nice!!!
Thanks!!

Thanks so much Bradley! That's really clever re-using the rubber insert -- I bet it's nearly undetectable. Thanks for watching!
Great tip!
Thanks Gary! You rock!
You could also use some washers to shim under the head of the bolts so they don't stick in so much.
That's a fantastic idea! I was thinking about cutting the bolts shorter with a hacksaw but I never thought of washers haha. Thanks for sharing!
@@dkbuilds same, but they look like they're coated to prevent rust
Great little project that fixes the disappearing pencil, but what about the disappearing tape measures? 🤔
LOL good point. Need more hidden drawers!
Dang man I was waiting for the self closing drawer slides…🤣
Enjoyed watching this !
Lol damn I knew I was forgetting something! Thanks for watching Longhorn :)
Now you just need to remember to put them back there when you're done 😁
LOL so true Heather
The pencil falling out of the pipe clamp was hilarious!
LOL thanks! 😜
Need a 1 year follow-up, how many pencils have disappeared into the void since you built that. What is the mean time until drawer empty?
LOL will do, I'll start a spreadsheet to track it now!

Very good point, thanks Eric! I'll check out that mechanical pencil!
Mine has a bolt that sticks up way too high (1/2” high & 1/2” wide). I’ll just have to make the bottom higher.
Other commenters have given some good solutions to that -- you could use washers on the bolt to prevent it from screwing in so far / sticking up so high. Either way good luck and let me know how it turns out!
Great idea. I was like dont push it in too far, he is going to push it in too far...and you pushed it in too far...crap!
😜
keren mas brow i like
Thanks Karya!
Nice idea, too bad it doesn't work on all machines.
Best Regards from Hannover / Germany.

Why looking after you're pencil? i see you have also two ears 🤣🤣😂😂👍👍👍👍

Awesome to see your channel growing! Love your videos!
Thanks so much ml! I appreciate you watching!
I definitely will be doing one or two of these. Want to send me some zebra wood so they look like yours?
Hahah I think this was my last piece unfortunately! Thanks for watching Chris, let me know how yours turn out!
I thought scrap hoarding was a requirement for doing woodworking. 😂
😂 It sure comes in handy sometimes!
I would remove the bolt and cut it down to just long enough. Those bolts don’t need to be that long.
I thought about that too actually! Another commenter recommended adding some washers to the bolt to shim it down a bit, which should also work. Thanks for the tip Mad!
wtf no dovetails?!
