A small disagreement i have, you keep pointing out the massive pommel on the Greatswords saying its too big and distracting, and i cant agree with it. The reason the pommel has to be big is cause its a big sword, and swords need a counter weight or else it will be off balance and you cant wield it nearly as effectively, but i agree with most your placements

Dunno man, I mean, not to sound like a keyboard warrior, but think about how heavy that sword would be as a one handed weapon. That big "cross guard" would probably weigh at least 5 pounds, the average one handed sword weighing about that or less. Now, I know that it's probably some fancy metal that that has no weight, but personally, I wouldn't use it. Also, because the guard is round, your opponent's blade might slip down and cut your hand. However, it does look pretty cool aesthetics wise.
idk if anyone has said this yet but you forgot (my person favorite sword) Chilrend. It is basically a glass sword that is more blue and I am here for it.
Regarding the Steel Greatsword, the leather portion you said you didn't understand has a fairly strong basis in Medieval European two handed blades. A secondary grip higher up on the blade adds to your control of it, and this was, based off my understanding, most prominently seen in the German zweihandr
I think a lot of people will disagree with you on the scimitar. But I agree with you, the sword looks like what a guy who knows nothing about Arabic culture other than watching Aladdin once made this sword.
The leather on the GS is there to hold on to when thrusting, and the pointy bits is the secondary crossguard. Basically - it's a zweihander. Look it up, it looks pretty much identical.
The Steel Greatsword has that leather band because it's covering the portion of many swords known as the "ricasso." It's the part of the blade closest to the hilt and usually in front of the guard, often unsharpened and covered with metal or leather so the wielder can grasp the blade with his other hand at that point to increase the power of a thrust or cut. And it's not sharpened because unless you're wearing metal gauntlets...well, you would cut your hand. And it's also a straight rip off of the sword Schwarzenegger used in the Conan movies.
Finishes the entire Dawnguard questline, gets a sickass katana from the final enemy, damage is pretty much equal to Steel Damage and enchantments are minor at best
The Deadric swords look like someone stuck a sawblade on a handle. Doing a thrust with this blade would be stopped about halfway through because it has that extra prong...which might give you another stabby spot, but would also keep the blade from getting much deeper. Plus the hilt has freaking spines on it...Basic Rule...don't cover the hilt of the sword with metal razors. You could hurt yourself.
The leather strap on the steel GS isn't random. It's there so you can use it to make more powerful swings in exchange for some reach. Basically you can grab the blade for more leverage

ngl this is where yours and my opinions differ the most ngl, but I suppose the most likely reason is because I have grown to like some of the ones that are more realistic. eg. i love dragonbone and despise daedric. Great video boss, keep em comin, always great to hear what everyone else has to say
Other than it being an Aesthetic Design, the Pommel on some of those Swords and Great Swords actually have Multiple Purposes, such as a Counter Weight to Balance the Weight of the Sword. To look Flashy. And can actually be used as a WEAPON itself dealing Blunt Force Trauma or Blunt Damage. So Before you decide you don't like a Huge Ball or a Pointy Bottom Part on a Sword or Great Sword, try thinking about how they Functioned and how they were Used as an Extension of the Lethality of the Weapon, making it slightly more Multipurpose in Combat. Did you know that Historically Soldiers would Hold a Sword by the Blade and Swing it like a War Hammer? Yes, it's True. Also you should look into HEMA, Historical European Martial Arts. It can teach you a lot.
I think it's impossible to make this kind of video without everyone disagreeing with you. It's a very subjective topic. For me the list almost goes backwards, my favorite is the iron sword (i love the proportions and texture and the hilt makes sense) second is dragonbone and on last place are the daedric weapons (they look exactly like the swords i would draw as a kid and considered cool)
@@alexandrupohata9235 I can recommend some channels of people who are enthusiasts and/or experts on such weapons. They can make their educational videos entertaining too.
The ebony greatsword is actually my preferred greatsword. It just feels like something a huge samurai villain would use. But I am the the guy that has an enchanted ancient Nordic pickaxe named Chaoporphyrous, so....................I'm a nerd.
I love the designs of the nordic sword and gs but my HUGE complaint with them is that they, for some reason, decided not to give the blades any depth for the model and just slap a 1 pixel wide jpeg on each side of them so they look like you're swinging around a piece of paper taped to a hilt. Totally ruins them for me. The other nordic weapons look sick, though.
Honestly, I think the Ancient Nord Sword being black like tar makes it better imo But that may just be me being biased cause it's the sword I used for like my entire first playthrough until I got the 2 swords from the imperial questline, and even then I would exchange them from time to time when their enchantments ran out
Not critiquing the video, I just wanted to say I think that leather strap on the steel great sword is for half swording, a technique that allowed weapons to better penatrate armour.
Odahviing would be number 1 for me he looks sick and I think he might be the only red dragon in the game if I remember right so that makes him really unique.
I remember I made an extremely stealth focused character once, I really wanted shadow warrior so I basically had 100 sneak before reaching 40 in any combat skill. I got so pissed with random encounters becoming boss battles that I did the fortify alchemy loop and made an iron dagger called Longinus that did something like a million damage. Kinda took the fun out of that playthrough but it was initially pretty funny oneshotting anything with that little butter knife
Personally, I’d of just linked stealth with alchemy. Alchemy can do everything. Even boost dagger damage if you use fortify archery potions. (Ah, gotta love bad coding) Poisons ignore armour, weakness to poison on a bow, followed by two hits of lingering damage health daggers. Everything dies! Or paralysis lasting a few minutes. And just go ham levelling that one-handed skill. As an assassin character you can completely ignore the left side of the sneak tree. Wearing clothing (I like hooded monk robes) or the un-armoured dark brotherhood robes or ciceros clothes will make you A) completely silent as no armour penalty B) move lightning fast. Keep daggers sheathed and un-sheath them when you want to rush an enemy. (Doesn’t work with spells in hand)
Today I learned that staves is the plural form of staff smh I always wondered what staves were because I thought staff was just staffs in plural. I thought I was missing a whole class of weapons but no...I've been hoarding them just like I do with potions all this time.
a bit of an explanation of the Ancient Nord swords, and why they are so dark, they have been lying in a tomb, filled with damp and mold for 1000s of years, and that causes problems for a metal object, the Nordic Hero swords, are basically you restoring the sword the way it was when it forged in ancient times, or at least close enough, I think the handle probably had a leather finish like the basic Steel Sword has, only one tomb has these blades in mint condition, Volunruud.. the rest have decayed along with their owners for 1000s of years till you, took them to the Skyforge and reforged them
Best: leveling enchanting, destruction and smithing to 100. Then, head over to the place with stalhrim and do the quest where you get Ahzidal’s armor cause it ups enchanting. Then, go to Miraks temple and go through it until you get a stalhrim sword with the chaos enchantment, and disenchant it. Then do the quest where you unlock creating stalhrim gear. You also need to find and enchanter’s elixir and blacksmith elixir. Then, you make a stalhrim weapon of your choice after taking the blacksmith elixir. Then upgrade it fully. Next, wear ahzidals armor and drink the enchanter’s elixir and enchant it with chaos enchantment and frost damage. Boom. Explanation: Ahzidals armor ups power when enchanting. You need to up enchanting to make it more powerful and get the perk that lets you put two enchantments on gear. You need to up destruction to get the perks that up frost, Fire and lightning on enchantments and make them more powerful. You need to up smithing to get the ebony smithing perk that lets you create stalhrim weapons and get it to 100 to make smithing more powerful. Upgrading alone takes 3 hrs for smithing, which I did by duping materials and making like 2000 daggers. It takes 1 hour for upping enchanting which I did by duping soul gems and enchanting the daggers. Destruction was a horribly painful process, where I used lightning on my horse and waiting when it got on low health, for 5 to six hours. Why you need a stalhrim weapon: First of all, the chaos damage enchantment gives a 50% chance for fire, frost and lightning to INDIVIDUALLY do about 200 damage, if you did everything above. If you’re lucky, you’all do 600 damage and if you have average luck do 200-400 damage from the enchantment alone. This combined with the base damage and the frost enchantment is INSANELY freaking powerful, but it gets better. See, stalhrim weapons increase any frost enchantment placed on them, meaning the frost damage enchantment will be increased. BUT, the sword, because it’s upping the frost damage, ups the chaos damage as well. It is astounding. This took me about a real life month, to level up and complete all the quests needed, but keep in mind I wasn’t just doing Skyrim the whole time. Do this and immediately become a god. I learned this from a TH-cam video, but thought I’d share it here as well along with how long it took. Thanks for reading :) Edit: you could probably get the weapon faster than it took me to type this Edit 2: I’m terrible at spelling made up places and people, my bad Final edit: once you get this done, you can repeat it basically indefinitely. I created a basic sword, the Quodiinyol blade, the Ninronaaz bow, and the sulveyzeem dagger because of what their names mean in the dragon tongue.

Sword: *has somewhat realistic features*
Longbrow Gaming: "And I took that personally."
ngl this is where yours and my opinions differ the most ngl, but I suppose the most likely reason is because I have grown to like some of the ones that are more realistic. eg. i love dragonbone and despise daedric. Great video boss, keep em comin, always great to hear what everyone else has to say
Yo you fr make some funny and easy to understand content Idk why you got no uploads recently I could watch this structure with any game fr
The iron sword's handle is too skinny and the two sides of the pommel would poke your hand, making it uncomfortable.
@@fransthefox9682 i'm not arguing with that, i don't know anything about weapons so you're probably right
@@alexandrupohata9235 I can recommend some channels of people who are enthusiasts and/or experts on such weapons. They can make their educational videos entertaining too.
THANK YOU for noticing that the ebony sword is half handle, it weirds me out and I am thankful that I am not the only one to notice it
"It's just a straight line" my brother it's a sword
"A guard might get nervous, a woman approaches with her weapon drawn."
Honestly, I think the Ancient Nord Sword being black like tar makes it better imo
But that may just be me being biased cause it's the sword I used for like my entire first playthrough until I got the 2 swords from the imperial questline, and even then I would exchange them from time to time when their enchantments ran out
I like your buttpaddle rankings, and hey, it was a nice touch throwing one or two swords in the mix as well! :P
Not critiquing the video, I just wanted to say I think that leather strap on the steel great sword is for half swording, a technique that allowed weapons to better penatrate armour.
The ring on the dragon bone swords is called a pommel and is used to help balance the sword in your hand.
@FilthySewerRat I mean those types of ring pommels weren’t entirely uncommon
@FilthySewerRat it does look good though, its entirely subjective
I like rankings. Especially your rankings.
Rank the different traps throughout skyrim
i loved the nightingale blade when i first saw it but over time it just look like a plastic toy of a real blade that was enlarged
Bloodskal is such a beatiful Blade!
Alright, I will venture to Skyrim again, I'll beware of arrows in the knee.
I'd like to see the guild questlines ranked
Rank all named dragons.
I think it’s probably gonna be hard to make depending on whether to rank them aesthetically.
Odahviing would be number 1 for me he looks sick and I think he might be the only red dragon in the game if I remember right so that makes him really unique.
@@pearsemolloy9656 Same for me, that colour scheme is sick
@@pearsemolloy9656 Odahviing and Durnehviir are my all-time favorites.
I really like psarthunex for basically the reason of his tusk thats been broken off, also. Hes MARIO MY GUY
"wHaT aBoUt ThE bOuNd SwOrD!"
(Ah, gotta love bad coding)
Poisons ignore armour, weakness to poison on a bow, followed by two hits of lingering damage health daggers. Everything dies!
Or paralysis lasting a few minutes. And just go ham levelling that one-handed skill.
As an assassin character you can completely ignore the left side of the sneak tree.
Wearing clothing (I like hooded monk robes) or the un-armoured dark brotherhood robes or ciceros clothes will make you
A) completely silent as no armour penalty
B) move lightning fast. Keep daggers sheathed and un-sheath them when you want to rush an enemy. (Doesn’t work with spells in hand)
Today I learned that staves is the plural form of staff smh
I always wondered what staves were because I thought staff was just staffs in plural. I thought I was missing a whole class of weapons but no...I've been hoarding them just like I do with potions all this time.
I was always a fan of the scimitar visually.
a bit of an explanation of the Ancient Nord swords, and why they are so dark, they have been lying in a tomb, filled with damp and mold for 1000s of years, and that causes problems for a metal object, the Nordic Hero swords, are basically you restoring the sword the way it was when it forged in ancient times, or at least close enough, I think the handle probably had a leather finish like the basic Steel Sword has, only one tomb has these blades in mint condition, Volunruud.. the rest have decayed along with their owners for 1000s of years till you, took them to the Skyforge and reforged them
Best: leveling enchanting, destruction and smithing to 100. Boom.
Explanation:
Ahzidals armor ups power when enchanting.
Why you need a stalhrim weapon:
First of all, the chaos damage enchantment gives a 50% chance for fire, frost and lightning to INDIVIDUALLY do about 200 damage, if you did everything above. Thanks for reading :)
Edit: you could probably get the weapon faster than it took me to type this
Edit 2: I’m terrible at spelling made up places and people, my bad
Final edit: once you get this done, you can repeat it basically indefinitely. I created a basic sword, the Quodiinyol blade, the Ninronaaz bow, and the sulveyzeem dagger because of what their names mean in the dragon tongue.
If you're gonna make an effort you might as well go all out and use alchemy, smithing enchantments, and the black book buff too.
Nightingale Blade is a piece of ART. A literal Masterpiece. PEAK sword design you hear me?
The goat with another ranked video !!??🐐
I think you might have forgotten Chillrend.
It’s the glass sword model. Sorry that I didn’t clarify :)
@@longbrowgaming2772 Chillrend is a unique shade of blue instead of the default green - but yeah it's pretty much the same.
Yeah that sword looks like it's made of razor think ice
@@longbrowgaming2772 No you’re fine, don’t worry about it.
Chillrend is actually one of the strongest swords in the game if you get the highest leveled version of it.
The katanas/akiviri are meant to look like that. They are supposed to have small blades to be lighter
Never have I ever seen a more controversial list
Bruh “its too simple it sucks” and then “i love how simple it is, its a great blade” lmao
The orcish greatsword should be at the bottom, it looks like it would shatter as soon as it hit anything harder than oak wood
3:37 bro… I’m sorry but if you’re taste is the daedric and not the good tier designs of the steel and iron swords… bro I’m sorry but it’s not even an opinion you’re just wrong
Also well done you put the best effort bro
What's with the hate towards the ring pommel on dragon bone swords? Greatly resembles irish ring hilt.
Also, I find it interesting how you draw comparisons to the bloodskal blade and the macuahuitl, when personally the forsworn swords appear to clearly draw inspiration from crudely crafted aztec macuahuitls.
Be a little more open minded to the designs!
Honestly the forsworn sword is one of my favorites design wise it looks so cool in my opinion
do some of your favoutire modded swords or armours. Maybe a kettle of fish you don't want to open tbf
I like this underrated dude
Fun fact that H on harkons sword is actually mologbals face which makes it a great thing to weild in conjunction with mologbals mace
Love how all the practical, and somewhat functional swords scored the lowest
Dope Vid, gotta sub!
In all fairness the falmer sword's defense I'm pretty sure that the grossness is a feature, not a bug.... Axe is still the only falmer weapon I like though because it actually looks like repurposed chiten.
Just realized after finishing the video, The Blades sword isn't on this list, or the Unique variants of it like Bolar's Oathblade or Dragonbane.
I think they all come under the akaviri section
@@TCGChris Yes they do, but None of them were shown in the video, meaning he didn't review the akaviri sword at all
@@kamixakadio2441 he said at the start of the video that if any swords have the same/similar designs that they’d all be counted as 1 entry. That’s why you also didn’t see chillrend as it’s just a glass sword with a different name. The blades sword and dragonbane are just akaviri swords with different names
@@TCGChris Yes, but he didnt include the Blades sword model at all in the video. Not a single variant of it. There are 0 entries for the blades sword design in the video
@@TCGChris Ok nvm, i rewatched and didn't notice the first time that he placed Akaviri on there.
you're the best longbrow gaming! love you brother! take care of yourself dont get burned out making these ranking videos, take a day or two per week at least to relax and get some fresh air outside maybe, God bless you! 👍
please rank the houses you can buy in skyrim
I know this video has been out for a while, but could you do an updated video ranking the anniversary edition swords? There's some rather cool ones there (Torment)
my main problem with skyrim is that almost all unique weapons and armors are outclassed by anything you can make yourself.
I just like the unique effect the Bloodskal Blade has. Not all that effective, but it's pretty cool to do a power attack and hit someone with a wave of energy from a pretty good distance.
The steel Greatsword is really a hand and a half sword. That leather bit in front of the hilt is a ricasso...it's there so you can hold the hilt in your right hand and grip that part in your left and get a lot harder slash or more of a punch thrust with power. Haven't you ever watched Conan the Barbarian? Where do you think they got the idea?
I use the Glass Great Sword, The stats are high and the Look is great. I may or may not find a better sword but it's this one for me, for a single hand quick swing sword I like Dawnbreaker, it's very fast and slices quick or for me it does.
Nightingale sword and Dawnbreaker duel wielded is a very aesthetically pleasing setup
I enjoy quite a few of the pommels the swords have. Even if they're never used for weapon bashing like they should
Duuuuude dawn breaker ranking was disappointing but otherwise great list
