    As mentioned in the video, I don’t need Starlink because we have a lot of affordable high-speed internet options available in Metro Manila.
    I bought it because I want to have a unit on standby, ready to help during calamities and disasters.
    I’ve already arranged to meet a certain DRRMO, to demo how the unit works - so we can be ready for the future.
    Who knows, maybe the DRRMO will even buy their own units.

      I'm actually in talks with a mayor right now, to go visit them and test starlink in one of their mountainous regions.

    Great video. Thanks. I've had Starlink for about 6 months (California on my sailboat). It's pretty terrific. It's a real game changer.
    btw the minimal packing dimensions of the stowed Dishy (without the base) are 513mm(20.2" )x 303mm (1.9")" x ~ 8.5" high (end of the pipe stub). This should just fit in a maximum suitcase for airline travel. And it seems pretty robust. (The pipe dishy connection is very tough.) I think all the dedicated bags and boxes sold for Starlink are much too big and too expensive. Save your money.

    It can serve both as your primary internet and a backup when the lines go bad. You can carry it practically anywhere like camping or going to places far from the city and or like you mentioned going to places affected by disaster.

However, it's your insight about Starlink's purpose and usability in the countryside and underserved areas I find interesting. Since the first video and yours, I've wondered why Starlink did not have the option for solar power, given that most areas it is meant to be used in not only have poor to no Internet or cellphone providers but aren't yet electrified. Thoughts? How long did the shipping take to get to the Philippines? And how do you pay subscription?
    Anyhow, thanks for the share and mentioning the monthly plan in pesos. Cheers and new subscriber here. Stay safe!

      Solar is an option, but you'd just have to set it up yourself. The panels, deep cycle batteries and then the inverter. Or lithium batteries if you can afford it. That's something that I plan to discuss in an upcoming video.
      I think it took less than 2 weeks to arrive. So it was pretty quick.

    The good thing with that is, it is very portable. You can bring it anywhere, in the mountains, at sea, on an island, in places where there is no access to local telecommunications.

    Starlink is damn slow in the city, especially if you're surrounded with tall buildings, even a huge tree nearby can interrupt the signal between the dish and the satellite. But it's a huge upgrade if your home is on an open space or countryside.

    • @joshuam.6027
      @joshuam.6027 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Starlink is actually designed for remote areas, not cities. Or to be more precise, it's more appropriated to the countryside or less developed areas.

    A 200 mbps internet speed in remote areas where there is no ISPs and celluar data? Now, that's def modern tech!

  • @wavemaker2077
    @wavemaker2077 ปีที่แล้ว

    So the monthly for Starlink is 2700 pesos and not 5000 pesos as initially advertised. That's a very big difference. I assume there is no limit as to how many computers or cellphones can connect to wifi. Of course the speed might slow down if there are already a lot of gadgets connected to the same wifi source but a single starlink will be useful in remote places.

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think most people were assuming P5000 because of how much it costs in other countries.
      The included router supports up to 128 devices.

    • @wavemaker2077
      @wavemaker2077 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GadgetAddict 128 devices is a lot. Schools in remote places will find starlink very helpful.

    It's a good idea to be able to use it during calamities and help communities. But it will still be useless if there's a power shutdown unless you connect it to a solar-powered battery. But then, it's still a good idea especially in remote places.

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Solar is an option. But more commonly during disasters, you'll see gasoline and diesel generators.

  • @RandomRandroidTV
    @RandomRandroidTV ปีที่แล้ว

    My only concern when buying this, if you are in rural/remote areas, you also need an electricity generator to make this work. Solar-powered generators or battery-powered generators is necessary in case you experienced brownout during disasters.

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah if the grid is down, you'll need an alternative power supply. Like a generator, solar setup or car with inverter.
      There are many ways to get power in disaster areas. But getting internet? Usually satellites will be your only option.

    we should start a project, like a kickstarter project. Not just here in the philippines but for the entire planet.
    Where anyone can apply to get free dishes for their very remote community.
    Government will surely utilize this for remote schools in this country but Due Process tells me that that'll be far from now.

    I'd like to remind everyone that most of us in the Philippines that are having a bad internet connection are located at Mindanao, maybe because of terrain shapes or it rains here and there with that hot ass blast of heat at the same time.

    Very true. Many might be surprised that large part of PH population still has no access to the Internet. There were towns in the north that students need to travel 5 hours ( combined back and forth)to the town just to research and submit assignments.
