So when I saw you were doing this, I was like nope, not going to do that, I draw the line at getting up early. I’m not a morning person, but that’s exactly WHY I need to do it! I want my kids to wake up to me, being happy, and already awake. Setting my alarm now, I’m having my coffee in peace tomorrow 😂 also, side note, that flashback made me realize how long I’ve been following you, it’s crazy.

This was so helpful! You hit the nail on the head when you said it’s nice to wake up and have some time to yourself instead of waking up to your kids needing you immediately. I find myself getting frustrated with my 4 year old first thing in the morning when he comes downstairs and wakes me up wanting breakfast, and I hate that that’s the first thing he sees when he gets up - his grumpy, tired mom. It’s not fair to him, or to me. I’m going to try this (although probably not quite as early as 5am! Haha) and see how I feel. I’ve vowed to myself to be a better mom in 2019, and I think getting up before the kids is the first step. Thanks for all your recent videos! I’ve been looking forward to them every week and they have really inspired me to improve my life.

This is so me! I have had so much internal struggle with how Gaines comes down to me being the same way. I am NOT the nicest when ANYBODY wakes me up. haha It has definitely helped. So glad to hear you're inspired to do the same. It is hard after the first few days, but don't quit at that point! That means success is just on the other side...once you get past that, things shift in your body's natural sleep cycle and it gets "easier." You just have to find what works best for you! 💕

KatieOnTheFlipSide thank you for your reply! I can’t wait to start trying it out. I have followed your videos for years, but became a daily viewer when you were pregnant with Gaines while I was pregnant with my son. They are so close in age and I found you to be super relatable! Looking forward to your next video!

I’m not really a morning person but I found this journal from Habit Nest called The Morning Sidekick Journal. This journal makes me plan out my morning ritual especially things that I want to stay up to finish but I can finish in the morning instead. The journal calls the first week, Hell Week. And naps are good too. And I also follow FlyLady who says to get dressed down to the shoes as apart of your routine. It has helped me stay motivated during my morning decluttering, easy to take out the trash since I’m already dressed and wearing shoes. It’s great to find your channel and so nice to find someone else who is Konmari decluttering and taking the morning journey too.

I started doing this years ago and it is seriously life changing. I realized that our entire day went so much better if I was ready and prepared to be mom when the kids got up. If I'm calm and ready then they're calm. My kids are now teen/tweenagers and I still do this. And now they're old enough to be home alone and can get up themselves and get breakfast started...my friend and I have been meeting every morning and walking 4.5 miles. :)

I REALLY need to do this. I relate so much to you guys- two kids, so much excitement for a few years years and then reality hits and the toll on your marriage from the kids, anxiety depression etc. Life gets hard. I’m so glad to see you actively bettering yourself and inspiring me to do the same!!

What i like the most is how honest you are being on how fustrated you get with the kids and how the time frame change can really help with that. I have almost the exact schedule as you did before except i dont work i'm a stay at home mom and a full time college student. I wake up get my daughter ready for the day breakfast, then myself, school and then sleep sometimes past midnight (like tonight) getting house work done. I do find myself getting really anxious overwhelmed and even impatient at times with everything which is something i don't want my daughter to be a witness of. I'm going to try this for sure and hopefully i'm as determined as you were and wont quit on it!

I was sooo hard on myself that I wasn't keeping with my goals, then I realized I needed them to be more realistic & therefore I've had a set wakeup time and bed time.. 10 pm and 8 am, and i plan to work back from there! Thanks for all you do, love you lots!!

I’ve gotten up at 5:00am for years. Love my mornings. Coffee, News, get dressed/makeup, etc.. Then when hubby wakes up from his coma at 8:00am, I’m ready to rock ‘n’ roll. Good for you, Katie!!! You are on the right track but girl!!! Ya need to get your butt in bed earlier. I wake up between 5-6am each day...I do work FT, but I’m fortunate that my job is 100% home based (I work in clinical research). I get up early to have “me” time. I love it but I’m also a morning person and always have been...and I know that makes it easier for me! I would suggest maybe trying to get up every other day at 5 and then for the days in between maybe try 6? Best of luck! You should be proud of yourself!!

I found that when I didn’t set more than 1 alarm and didn’t even allow snooze to be an option, my brain KNEW I had to get up when the alarm went off and it was so much easier. No question, and no having to make a decision of how long to hit snooze! And I’ve been similar to what you said - literally hitting snooze for like an hour and not even knowing it. Best of luck to you!! You can do it! 💕

I love this idea! Can you offer any suggestions for a nurse working 12hr shifts? I work 3 days a week, no weekends. The catch is, my schedule is 10a-10p. Currently, I wake up at 6:30 on days i have to work and 7 on days i don't because the kids have to be dropped of by 8:30am. I feel like i would love having that extra time in the mornings even to just get ready and drink my coffee hot and in peace. But thinking about it, waking up at say 545 or 6 and then not even getting home from work until 11pm seems soooooo difficult!!

Katie, I like my sleep too. But when I had kids, I started getting up early too. I feel like I was getting so much more done when I did. I had my two kids and started watching other people's kids. So it was important to get my house cleaned, supper in the crockpot and the laundry started. My house was cleaner then, than it is now. Lol. And, I do not have kids at home anymore unless you consider my husband, which is just as bad as the kids. Lol.

Since my 5 & 4 yr old started school last year..I started waking up 30mins before Them. I have to have coffee as soon as I wake up, otherwise I’m a huge grouch. The worst! As soon as my alarm goes off..there’s no time for snooze. I have to get up, I get started on my coffee..30mins gives me enough time to drink it before my kids get up. I drink espresso..so I’m wired by the time they’re getting out of bed. I love it, not at first because I love sleep 😴 but I really hate the way I feel if I have not drank coffee.

I get up at 5am everyday. I’m a SAHM and get all of my hubbys things ready in the morning for his work day and his coffee. Then, we shower and by the time we’re out, our daughter is up and ready for breakfast and then our son shortly after. There’s not much “me” time, but I love it. Although, it’s exhausting some days.

I would LOVE some practical tips on how to do this and maintain it successfully!! I really, really struggle to go to bed early, and this means I also struggle to get up early. In an ideal world I would be asleep by 10pm and wake up at 6am, but after a few 7am wake-ups I just fall apart!! I do have chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, so I realise I need to take that into consideration (!!) BUT I also know that having a healthy sleep routine really helps to keep symptoms in check. Ironically though, the diseases are also often the reason why I struggle to sleep early in the first place!! 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️😭😂 .....so yes!! Any helpful tips would he super appreciated......I am LOVING this series you’ve been doing Katie, it has genuinely helped and encouraged me so much ☺️☺️😘✌🏻💕

We go to bed around 1am and wake up around 10-10:30 am my daughter goes to bed around 10:00 pm and wakes up 12 hours later. Going to try this but maybe I’ll wake up at 8 and once I nail that I’ll do 7. My goal is to wake up at 6 and get my daughter to have a wake up schedule of 7-8am

I wonder if the kids are sensing somebody's up so their waking up. I'm a night owl always have been and I hate it not when I'm doing it but the next day I'm no good for anything. Just do what I have to do and sometimes that doesn't even get done. I have no kids to deal with it's just me so if something doesn't get done no big deal..lol What I have started doing is no electronics in the bedroom after going bed. I take them and put them on the dining room table before doing all the things you do before going to bed. It's helped I don't find myself grabbing for the iPad just because I woke up to turn over or make a bathroom run. And like you said and hour goes by before you know it looking at nothing keeping my brain wide awake. Sometimes finding it hard to go back to sleep if I've been asleep 4-5 hours I've just had a good nap...lol With no electronic stimulation I've found I just either roll over and go back to sleep or stumble to the bathroom and back and go right back to sleep.

I had somebody comment on instagram that even if they can't hear me, they may hear the "house waking up"...like the pipes when I shower or brush my teeth or flush the toilet, etc. even though our bathroom isn't right by their rooms. Pipes go all throughout! I hadn't thought about it like that, but makes sense.

I really do enjoy waking up earlier. But I'm kinda curious because u said your kids started to wake up earlier too. Did they start to sleep back in? Does Cullen feel like he can sleep through you being up in the living room or master bath getting ready? My husband is a very light sleeper with noise and lights. It's kinda aggravating for me to get up and do anything, I wake him up. He did start sleeping with ear plugs, maybe I need to get him a face mask too 😂. Our house is also little. I'm looking forward to the day where I may be able to sneak downstairs & they can all sleep in upstairs while I have me time.

    • @KatieOnTheFlipSide
      @KatieOnTheFlipSide  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, they did go back to sleeping a little later! It's more like 7:00/7:15 the past few days, which has been helpful for sure! And yes...Cullen can sleep through anything in the mornings. lol It doesn't bother him at all. And as funny as it sounds, a face mask is super helpful for real! He had all the lights on and was working through his Konmari pile in our bedroom last night, but I HAD to go to bed, so I put in my headphones with a white noise app on my phone, put on a face mask and slept right through it all. LOL! White noise machines are super helpful. hopefully y'all can figure out something that will work for you!
