@@annasaunders7974 I just listened to it and it has a lot more! She did a great job! I read about the reason for there being 2 versions but Halsey is barely present in the mv :(
This whole mv is an ode to Singing In The Rain. In the teaser you can see a poster for the premiere for Singing In The Rain which was April 11th, the day Jin always goes back to in the BU (BTS Universe) as he tries to save everyone. The part with RM standing on stage with an umbrella. J-Hope swinging around the lamppost. The yellow couch is a scene in the movie. And so on. It’s utterly genius! Thanks for coming to my TED talk 😂
I liked halsey in it, and the fact she even sang korean and respected them enough to put that much effort in was nice. Her voice added something unique to the song I think it needed. Plus they've been friends for several years and she went out of her way to visit them and bring them gifts when they weren't that well known yet in america.
Love the way you explained their collaboration. I believe that BTS and Halsey really respect each other and I am happy that BTS are breaking the boundaries and they collab with other artists. It's good, people. They are progressing. Thank you for your reaction.
Yes, I love the way the collaboration was explained. Every time I see comments from my fellow Army about BTS being used by other artists I get so annoyed because first of all BTS know what they are doing. They don’t take collaboration lightly. Secondly, these are artists they respect and want to work with. Thirdly, BTS also gets something out of the collaboration. It’s not a one-way street when artists collaborate. A lot of thoughts goes into these collaborations. Anyway l love their new song “Boys in Luv” is

It's my first BTS comeback, and the style goes different with a lot of their previous title tracks. I can feel their love for army, for us very sincere and true and sweet and humble, through the music and the music video, and the choreography!!!!
Halsey and Bts actually have a genuine friendship and the boys approached her about the collab. They are all so excited to be working together and Halsey didn’t want to half ass this collab she flew to Korea to film, helped write the song, learned the choreo, and fully immersed herself into this collab. I’m so happy they all got to work together.
I also think the timing of a more fresh, fun song is perfect!! It's spring/summer time, and it's a EXACTLY the type of music I want to be listening to right now!!!!!
I really liked this collab, unlike the one with Nicky, which felt forced to me idk. Halsey's voice is so soft & sweet, it matches the song perfectly. I wish she would have sung more in the mv but i'm glad there's another version where she gets to shine more. Thanks for the review, PD! Can't wait to know what you think about the rest of the songs 💜
I absolutely adored this song because I relate to it so much. Again just feels like every BTS release is more or less following the path of my life. I am finally in a positive relationship with someone that I really see lasting forever and I've never felt this happy ever. It's like nothing else can even bother me anymore. The chill tune and soft vibes in the song were so appropriate to portray this sense of happiness and comfort from finally getting to where you always wanted to be, with someone who truly loves you and you love back so strongly. They also completely smashed the 24h view record, BTS doing BTS things. Just feels crazy to me how BTS and BLACKPINK compete on a whole different scale to the rest of Kpop and they can really match up to western artists
One of my favourite TH-camrs. It’s just so refreshing watching your videos. I love how neutral and completely unbiased you are in what you say. Thanks for making another BTS video! 💜
PD, thank you for your discussion at the end! I agree, their symbiotic relationship is good for musical growth! I'm glad BTS is getting taken seriously and are taking steps forward!
They did so good with this comeback!! Yesterday my radio station was playing Boy With Luv throughout the day. I was so surprised because I live in a not so big city in the Midwest and to hear BTS on the radio. I honestly think its party due to the collab, of the boys worked hard and definitely deserve this but even their other American featured track didn’t get that much hype where people in random no-where towns could hear it on the radio. Halsey has been dominating American radio so a collab with her was bound to get air time. Which is super good for the boys because their music can reach a larger audience.
What I love personally about it is how Halsey was included in the choreo. I know that Leslie Grace danced a little with SuJu too, but she got the "easier" & "lady like" parts, at least from what I have seen (nothing wrong with that of course, the performance was still awesome). Here on the other hand Halsey was getting DOWN with the boys and we all know how hard the BTS choreo can be, so props to her.

I totally agree with you about Halsey and BTS collabing. I feel like they are in the music industry and have been for years and they have their company that has also been in the industry so I feel like it isn't my place or anyone else's to tell them what they should do. Also I think there is a little bit more of her on the album verses the MV. I really love the song and the MV. I really love the songs on the album as well. It pulled me in and I loved that some things were switched up like Jimin starting some songs and Jin starting one song.
Thank you for always providing excellent commentary with Kulture Study, and with your previous reaction videos and listening parties :)) I really enjoy listening to you voicing your opinions on everything from the music video sets, production, to music itself, song structure, etc. This was a great comeback for BTS ^-^ I loved Halsey's feature on the track, and I'm really looking forward to the listening party for “Map Of The Soul: Persona”.
Hi PD. I read the comment you added in the video about Halsey, I just wanted to add that she herself said in Twitter that she wrote and sang the chorus. You'll notice it when you listen to the whole thing and I'm waiting excitingly for the video!! 💜💜
I feel like ever since BTS got into the american market k-pop title tracks have become extremely safe. While not bad songs DNA, KTL, IDOL, Ddu-du ddu-du, AIYL, Fake Love, Yes or yes, Eung eung, I'm so sick, Gogobebe and many more and now this song are all produced as safe, generic pop songs to appeal to the western market.
i totally agree with all the take and give part. i love halsey and when i heard that halsey had a song with bts i immediately checked it out. so see i was a halsey audience and she introduced me to bts and now im following bts as well cause i liked their music. this is the point of collaborations
she definitely got a more prominent part in the other ver! im surprise they didn't use it in the mv. And I was one of those ppl who were iffy about another collab with american artist bc the previous ones seemed...messy? like cut and pasted. It sounded off to me but im really happy with this. This is a collab done right IMO. Not just because she was there with them to shoot the mv, but as you said, they really did well with adding her voice in the chorus. Not only that she learned the point in the choreography and harmonized really well in korean(?) it sounds like it in the other ver. They looked like they had a lot of fun too. overall, im glad they got to work together.
i was reeeeaally skeptical about this collab and worried they would do a cheesy mv... BUT. IT WAS ALL REALLY SMOOTHLY MADE, BLENDED TOGETHER. i liked it right away.
I think Halsey truly likes the members of BTS and her voice blends in really well. I have heard that she worked hard for this project. I am sure you already know but the song they have in the album and on spotify has more of Halsey's vocals. She adds another layer to the song and I am happy she was involved with the project. I hope you decide to do a first listen to the album. It would be interesting to see what you think.
In these times and days, we NEED this sweet bubble gum pop song, it refreshes, it uplifts, it brightens!!! Also this album, if u haven’t listened to it...YOU NEED TO!!! It’s a ride!!! A fun FUN ride!!!
Bts thought Halsey would fit the song a lot and since they’ve already shared their wish to collaborate together before with her and same in her case this comeback felt like the right time. I personally strongly believe she really added to the song in a great way her voice blends really well it’s almost hard for it to be distinguished as “different”. I’m glad they went with this even with expectation of how fans would react. They’re always trying to bring new things to the industry and I respect them a lot for that. Thank you PD for explaining your thoughts on this I totally agree
"(...) The rabbit hole of kpop." I like that comparison, what a wonderland. To be honest. After hearing this was tribute to "Singing in the rain" I could see the references, like the scenario, the couch, the street lights, the outfit Namjoon wears and the umbrella he holds. It's all there :D
Tbh I was most anticipating your reaction because, I know you are always genuine and real. You always have good feedback that isn’t sugar coated or too harsh. I was really interested in what you had to say because, me personally this wasn’t my favorite title track or my favorite album. This album sorta felt like something that was just for fun. I mean it was a mini album and I still know they put a lot of work into it. But maybe its just me, I more into the darker concepts, and maybe its refreshing to see them try something more bubbly. Correct me if I’m wrong but this album felt almost rushed like because they have blowed up so much in America recently that they felt they had to put something out there. Of course it wasn’t just put together, obviously a lot of work went into it. And they all did amazing but, I’m just hoping for their next comeback we bring back some of the qualities of old BTS. Please know I’m not hating I love my boys a whole lot. And its unhealthy to just say you love an album just because you love a group. You can still love and support them but, its okay to have some beneficial criticism sometimes. I’m still very proud of them. ❤️ Also I realize pd hasn’t listened to the album yet but, I still wanted to say my thoughts.
It was a tribute to the past Singing in the Rain, old Broadway and of course boy in love that happiness you feel when you're young and fall in love. You have that bubble gum feeling. As for Halsey she been talking about BTS for a minute and the 1st time they came to the bbma she came over with gifts. Plus this is the mv they will be promoting in Korea. She has a bigger part in the cd
I was happy you can hear her sing Korean on the streaming/audio version! I like how her featuring was so integrated and not just a bit thrown in that might feel disjointed with the rest of the song. Also the mv has references to Singing in the Rain which is where the retro stuff is from! Also also I totally agree with what you said about "using" people in the music industry, but at this point I've even seen army's with big accs getting this thrown at them...so I don't bother correcting those people anymore lol
The fact that Halsey sang in Korean shows how this collaboration is amazing. The entire album is a built on teamwork between the East and West. It really is uncharted territory. The globalizing world is really giving light to the merging of styles and cultures.
The broadway light scene is a direct scene from ‘Singing in the Rain’ the beginning of the ‘Gotta Dance’ sequence where Gene Kelly ends up dancing with Cyd Charisse which is an amazing number... The first time I watched the mv I was like “what’s this from??? I’ve seen this...” and then they rushed the stage and I remembered. Even the couch is a reference even tho they don’t flip it, which is sad. JK and Jm and Jhope probably could have done it. One of the greatest musicals of all time.
Namjoon said the mv is a hommage to singing in the rain movie and the song is a tribute to armys. Also the real album version has more halsey and even her singing in korean whoa i was shook! Honestly bts is the king of breaking boundaries and making firsts😍
love the video, have to say i really like the album version, where you can hear halsey more prominently in the chorus, harmonizing with the vocalists. i think she even sang the korean part of it, but my hearing isn't perfect. love that she danced with them and her eye makeup was on point

i was reeeeaally skeptical about this collab and worried they would do a cheesy mv...
I’ve been waiting for you! 😩
In these times and days, we NEED this sweet bubble gum pop song, it refreshes, it uplifts, it brightens!!! Also this album, if u haven’t listened to it...YOU NEED TO!!! It’s a ride!!! A fun FUN ride!!!
omg LMAOO it was so fun meeting you at tekko! I was a lil drunk but you were so chill
This song is so nice and cozy, halsey are amazing in the mv and she sang korean there haha i love it
"(...) The rabbit hole of kpop." I like that comparison, what a wonderland.
To be honest. After hearing this was tribute to "Singing in the rain" I could see the references, like the scenario, the couch, the street lights, the outfit Namjoon wears and the umbrella he holds. It's all there :D
omg i was just thinking when you’d release this then you dropped it KAHDKAH omg
Even Twice are thinking this song is so inoffensively soft.
can't wait for album listening party 😍💜
React to the album!! Omg I can't wait for your reaction to DIONYSUS!!
Me toooo
When will he upload the album reaction?
7:13 i’m really surprised that pd didn’t get the singin in the rain reference
Omg yes I was waiting for this
It was a tribute to the past Singing in the Rain, old Broadway and of course boy in love that happiness you feel when you're young and fall in love.
PD!! I WAS WAITING FOR YOU!!
I fully agree with you! Halsey tried really hard. I'm so proud of her and the boys and I'm really glad they got along so well
This MV is the real definition of esthetic 👍👍👍👍
Namjoon said the mv is a hommage to singing in the rain movie and the song is a tribute to armys. Also the real album version has more halsey and even her singing in korean whoa i was shook! Honestly bts is the king of breaking boundaries and making firsts😍
*YASS PD i was waiting for this*
Thank you for the reaction PD!! This vid came out way earlier than I expected it to, can't wait to see what you thought ^^
thank you for uploading after 24hrs! and halsey has more parts in the studio version !!
love the video,
have to say i really like the album version, where you can hear halsey more prominently in the chorus, harmonizing with the vocalists. i think she even sang the korean part of it, but my hearing isn't perfect.
love that she danced with them and her eye makeup was on point
OMG i can't wait foe the listening party yay
