Depends on the fabric. If its cotton use 1 litre.

After mixing dye with a small amount of boiling water, did you then add cold water please?

Yes I did. If you are making tie and dye, the water can be warm. But, if its wax batik, you have to wait for the water to be lukewarm or of room temperature before putting your waxed fabric into the dye solution.

@@AlkaBaba-q8c 1 liter of water to 1 yard of fabric if you are immersing the fabric into the dye bath. As there are other methods of dyeing a fabric.
