    I have a theory that the sole reason dwarf and superdwarf retics are gaining in popularity is because Garrett is their hype man. I was terrified of the idea of even being near a retic. Forget owning one. Then I watched one of Garrett’s videos. Now one of my “life goals” is to purchase a Reach Out G.O.A.T. He could probably get me to vote retics into office at this point.

      I think you’re on to something Ryan. But I think there’s more to it. Because reticulated pythons are awesome animals. And having one that is manageable by one person and fits in a regular sized enclosure is even more awesome!
      I think people would have caught on, but ROR is definitely leading the charge.

    After 15 years in the hobby, I've just recently got my first retic, adopted a 5 year old male Platinum superdwarf (6.5ft) I love him, he's awesome. I agree on the personality of SD's 10/10.

    My favorite species is like a 3.5, sometimes it's just not about the numbers..... I agree with the rating, the most compelling thing about retics in my opinion is their.. swagger.. for lack of a better word.

    Totally agree on the interactivity. My 2 babies from you are by far the most inquisitive snakes I have. The little girl struck at me last night but I settled her down and pulled her out to improve her trust. The male had almost a flip of a switch with trust. That snake truly trusts me with his life and I love that.

Making sure my boas get everything they need as far as permanent enclosures must come first. But once this is established in the next few months I am looking forward to purchasing my first super from you. I love the purple tigers in any variation. That cow is gorgeous btw.... I must admit, I was surprised by super dwarf retics. I got my first one about a month ago (thanks Garret for recommending the breeder (UK) 😁x He came and from day one he was super sweet I had read that they can be a bit defensive, especially as babies (he was born July 13th this year, so is only 3 months old), but he is the sweetest little dude ever. Best snakes ever, 😍x Great video.

    Caging/enclosures got me :-) I ordered my little Ball buddy's new home about 2 hours ago because he has grown out of his 3ft. I just like him to have stretch room :-) honestly if I could realistically have a set of a few nice females and a male or two SD/D retics I would love to be a hobby breeder...

    Always goes without saying that small children shouldn’t be around ANY snake without strict supervision. All kids once old enough to understand must be taught how to touch/handle a size-appropriate snake. I think a superdwarf would be an excellent 2nd or 3rd snake for a kid 10 or older if the child has the aptitude and interest.

    • @ReachOutReptiles
      @ReachOutReptiles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed, as long as parents also realize they will need to play a pretty big role as pet keeper whilst kids are younger.

    I love retic's and I and a small time breeder but if he wants to be honest the average person cannot afford a super dwarf they're out of the price range of most people it's the double edged sword of reptiles if it's rare people put a ft Penny on it which stops most people from purchasing it

    So I'm going to do this with my cats and see how they stand up to the scale (ha, scale) since I technically do not have a pet reptile until Tuesday (be warmer faster, Chicago!)
    Update: the cats did not score well even with 10/10 bonus 😅

      Lol, what was the number overall??

    • @CandiceLemonSharks
      @CandiceLemonSharks 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ReachOutReptiles 6.5 - they lost out on wow factor (Just A Cat plus the ethics of breeding Wow Fancy Cats are pretty equivalent to the ethics of breeding green iguana morphs in Florida) and on safety, surprisingly. Cat bites are always medically significant, and good husbandry requires sticking your fingers in their mouths to brush their teeth every day. The flip side to Wow is that Availability was a 10/10; there's a cat for everyone including people who prefer dogs and people who are allergic to cats.)
      My Bonus category was "I love these cats so much" -- you have to work to earn their love and trust but once you have it it's like ... Dang, man. Getting an introvert to decide you're Their People. Super rewarding.
      (I'm still looking for a vet who will ok me using FT rodents as cat treats. I'm hoping my new reptile vet is more amenable to the idea than my regular vet.)
