I work for a small breeder named Cold Blood Creations. The owner Ronnie showed this video To us at work and say that it is so refreshing to see other breeders and use ethics and integrity to govern their businesses.
Does anyone know where I can find a native Oregon reticulated python ? Regardless I can have it be serviced as an animal if medical records need to be shown…
Garret, I'm a Fan, because you are a principled breeder. After many years of being out of snake breeding , (colubrids and Rosy Boas), I have gotten into Carpet Pythons. I'm a bit anal about keeping localities pure, so I'm working with Wester Papuan Carpets. It has been a PIA finding pure bred ones. The Carpet community is so caught up in the crosses of subspecies and so few have kept them pure. I have a good foundation going right now, one pair F3 from direct imports and a unrelated pair that as far as I can trace them back are pure. Good luck with your Island retics.
I traded for a mainland retic 2 yrs ago that is still only 5' or so. She is that way because she was a horrible eater in the beginning she was a yr at that time and only a little over 2'. In the last few months she has eaten every time and went from just over 3'6" to 5'. Someone not knowing could have decided she has dwarf or super dwarf in her. That would be a mistake. She will continue to grow and time will prove this. I am glad you have these videos so that atleast the information is out there if people just search before buying.
Lets hope that those out there trying to cuts corners take notice of this video and those wanting to buy a SD take notice too. Always thank you for the great info.
Personal opinion Garrett doesn't have the number of subscribers he deserves. I love this channel for the fact that he is an educator. He has thought me so much and out of all the reptile breeders out there I would love to meet him and shake his hand!!!!
That's why I love your channel and when I am ready for my retic I will be going through you to find what I want so even if you dont have what I want but know a reputable breedee that does I know I have a reliable source recommending them. Keep following your slow and steady path it will pay off to those of us customers that care about reliable information and word will travel that you steer people right and take you much further in the long run.
Always powerful information in your videos!! Anyone in this hobby that claims to not have time to watch videos should make the time to watch your one stop powerful videos to strengthen an better this hobby!! Take care!!
Knowledge is key in determining whether someone is being truthful with you. Sometimes that basic knowledge comes from knowing just how long it takes to produce a visual morph into these bloodlines. Learning little tricks along the way can help keep you safe. Thanks for the education Garrett!
One of your best videos to date Garrett. I have wondered how as a professional breeder you are able to verify the info on the animals that you do acquire. It’s so important when you are trying to preserve specific locality bloodlines. Is there any type of DNA sequencing available that can verify where an animal came from (specific island). I really like the idea of focusing on specific animals for TEUT. I still couldn’t tell the difference between the different locality animals even after reading as much as I have. If you can go into detail and show specific traits of a locality, that would be great educational material. Thanks Garrett.
Great video as always! I learned this the hard way as you know but I’m thankful that you’ve been there to help me out early on so I don’t perpetuate the problem. You’re a rockstar!
Once again. Another great video. Your level of knowledge and with such a large amount of affection for what you do, is so good to see. I’ve learnt a ton about my favorite animal from you. On a side note. We’d love to see a video of all your animals. If that’s possible 🤷🏻♂️
Weird situation for me is I think I was misinformed about the bloodlines of a couple “super dwarfs” I purchased, but they turned out to be two of the best pets I’ve ever had. Had I known more at the time, I might not have purchased them. In my case ignorance is bliss. But next time...
Wow, super informative video Garrett. So glad I saw you on Brian Kusko's channel so I could find you as early as possible lol I look forward to perusing your videos and eventually picking up some animals from you in the future. I love your enthusiasm towards the conservation of blood lines and truth. I look forward to the day I finally get to meet you!
Really good video. A lot goes into who you can trust. Anytime someone who breeds is doing it right as a community we all need to promote them and get their names out there. Anytime someone asks me about my super dwarf I send them to your youtube page.
Such great info as always my friend. Love how you explained it to me like getting a dog from the pound that looks like my purebred cane corsos or whatever dog and breeding into my line breed dogs to throw a poodle or something someday and messing up all the years or hard work and documentation.
I love the information you have in this video, And I love the other information like this one, you have on another video, Where you actually show the islands where super dwarfs are from... You are hands down the number one informative individual I have watched...🙌🏼 😯✌🏼
GREAT video , very Educational .I'm new to being an owner of my first Retic. I'm Not a New snake owner. THIS truly made me Understand everything I WENT through searching for a PET RETIC and I WAS TOTALLY CONFUSED 😕. NOW I Understand. This is exactly why my friend got a SUPER DWARF that is as big as a mainland. She doesn't think he is DWARF at all. She LOVES him so thats fine but she PAID $$$ FOR a SUPER DWARF. YOUR snakes are gorgeous 😍
It's also possible people just flat out lied. Some people sell normal mainland retics and just label them as super dwarf because they're worth more and alot easier to find people willing to buy them lol. Having a small % in them happens sometimes too, but there's definitely just liars out there too.
Something you said about breeding out localities of dubious origin or percentages really struck a chord with me. What are your thoughts on how to best to operate in a scenario where the locality origin of an animal might fall into question? Do just come to terms with the idea that you can't reliably provide highly accurate parentage to prospective buyers or scrap the project entirely and try to source only trustworthy genetics going forward?
I really like what you do! I am a firm believer in keeping localities pure even if they do not have a separate scientific taxonomic classification, e.g. Hog Island Boas and our very common Colombian Boa Constrictors, which are both B.C.I. Love your videos Garrett!
As someone that's owns a hog island boa. I agree. I am as sure as I can be that he is pure. Based on his color, head, shape and markings. But I can't be entirely sure till he grows up and remains smaller than a normal BCI. Maybe not even then.
I feel that miss information sinks alot of people I work part time at a rescue and the stuff people drop off to us is either the owner didn't do there research or they were told bad information from the person they bought it from
Excellent information! I can see where these breeders telling someone that a snake is a Super Dwarf and really it's 60% Mainland could be a huge problem. A buyer obviously is looking for a relatively small snake and has bought stuff and planned for it accordingly and then a few years later, surprise, surprise, it's huge and outgrowing its cage! Kind of like when someone buys what they're told is a small breed puppy and it ends up being a 190 Lb dog eating them out of house and home, LOL! Looks like one breeder has taken notice with his dislike (I guess guilty dogs bark first).
Hey I had the same shirt on today lol thanks for the info! Size and temperament is important to me. What’s the diff in temperament between the localities, anything? Do the morphs effect temperament at all! I’ve heard the pied retic are know to be temperamental.
Bought a retic a few years ago labeled as a 100% selayer dwarf and now I'm worried it might not be, planning on breeding her to a sunfire and dont know if I'm comfortable labeling the babies as 50% now
Is it still possible to import these animals? Would it be a good idea to trace lineage like the carpet community? In my opinion, you have a corner on the market. When it comes time for me to aquire one it's going to be from you.
The more background information, the better. These days transparency matters more than ever before. I hate how murky locality information is (even with boas). Accurate record keeping should always be part of the foundation of reptile husbandry. Though I say this and I haven't recorded my last three snake feedings, whoops. :P I guess we can all do better? :) I know I appreciate what you're doing for the hobby!
I don't understand why it would take so long to get it a super. Wouldn't only breeding to a super and them babies with only super and keep doing that wouldn't that make it faster?
Reason #572 why when I can finally afford a SD it will be from you. I dream of owning a retic, but at 135lbs I know I'd prefer it to have as much SD blood as possible. Thanks for this video!
Damn I didnt know you were in PGH. I just found you from BHB. I own no reptiles. My dentist is right near your location on william flynn, i may stop in soon.
Kai Ju_____ Superdwarf is a market term, there are rules as to when it can be applied. I think you mean to say, if there’s a morph in it (other than maybe Anery) then it is not pure Kalatoa, Madu, or Karompa.
I’ve been tryna contact you bud nothing! I’m trying to see if I’m officially on the email listing for the first new hatchlings. I’m not sure what’s going on. I’m doing more research to see if others maybe have them but if I’m on the email listing for the next hatchling and get someone to actually speak to me then maybe business will go good for both of us.
I'm not sure what your reasoning is for disliking them, but we all have our strengths and weaknesses. Some of Samson's stuff comes from great bloodlines, at times even mine! I do believe he is trying to continually improve, much like myself. BUT, even if you do see him or anyone else coming up short in any of these ways- just talk to them in persona bout it, and they will be pushed to keep improving.
@@ReachOutReptiles The issue I have with him is that he sold a woman who had never owned a snake before a 10-15 ft. reticulated python and told her it was a good first pet. That's just irresponsible and isn't commensurate with what good representative of the industry would do.
By the way, the correct pronunciation of the Japanese term "bonsai" is pronounced "Bone Sigh" as opposed to Ban z Eye. There's a big difference in meaning too.
Man I wish people would just call out Prehistoric Pets, Cryin Brian Barzyck, and N. E. R. D(who has gotten better from l I've seen ).. But the first two you Know don't give a crap about anything other than the bottom dollar.. Not the animal. It's sad That GoHerping is the only channel who posts names and isn't afraid of what people say.
There are plenty of us who aren't afraid of what people say, but also don't care to add to the ocean of negative gossip in this industry. I'm really not sure why you would even suggest that I would call out Barczyk as someone who would misrepresent a Dwarf or SD Retic- he's never even worked with them. The bottom line is that not one of us is done improving in this life- and we will each get better when we spend more time analyzing what each of us can do to individually be better contributors to this industry, rather than spending our time "calling out" by name the people who are doing their part and at least trying, for better or for worse.

I remember them I used to see them at repticon in Jacksonville

great great info, you always make sense on the issues. I have no intention of getting a python but really enjoy your videos.
Awesome video Garrett. Very informative. Definitely a video people should watch if they are getting into dwarfs and super dwarfs.
I’m glad I found you!! I know who I’m buying a retic from when it’s time.

Great educational video. I think it's a good idea to have these type of videos that are more in depth on educating people about reptiles. Good Job!
Finally moving out of apartment into a house. Definitely looking forward to getting a beautiful retic

Awesome video my friend! Hopefully it will help some people avoid getting into animals that are really not what they're looking for.....
Wow, super informative video Garrett. I love what you do. I wish all breeders would take a page from your book.
Another incredibly educational and insightful video. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
Just for you, Ronnie

All the info you provide can be adopted to other creatures. Thinking about getting into arachnids which your info can be applied to also.
If I ever have the ability to own a retic I only want to purchase from you😁 I'll know exactly what I am getting 😊
You should see the packaging too!

Great info keep up awesome videos
Very informative video
This is why I bought from you lol

Great video and information?

Thanks for such an informative video. It's such a shame that there are so many ignorant/unscrupulous people out there.
Great video Garrett, ✌🏼
Not all heroes wear capes
Very informative 👍🏻
I just need to get ahold of a 100% SD all original wild look. I would like to get two females and one male to maintain the natural look. 🐍🐍💚
Ausome video man ., see you in Pomona brother ✌️✌️🙌🙌🖖🖖

Busy girl... as always great video
Awesome video
If and inevitably when I'm ready to get a reticulated python I know where I'm purchasing from now 😅
Buy from good breeders like Gareth. They are easy to find at reptile shows or online.
Thank you very much!
Damn I didnt know you were in PGH. I just found you from BHB. I own no reptiles. My dentist is right near your location on william flynn, i may stop in soon.
Dude, I Love the intro...✌🏼❤✌🏼
The rest of the video, even more...🙋♂️😉😁👈🏼
U should answer comments.
we try to answer questions , is there something you would like a response to?
hello
Take care and God loves you.
you need more subscribers!
I fear locality boas suffer from the same thing :(
WOW that’s a big snake
If your snakes have morphs in them then they're not super dwarfs mate. They're part Mainland...
Kai Ju_____ Superdwarf is a market term, there are rules as to when it can be applied. I think you mean to say, if there’s a morph in it (other than maybe Anery) then it is not pure Kalatoa, Madu, or Karompa.
He legit said hes trying to take the morphs from mainlands and make them as small as possible.
isn't "trait and "genetic" the same?
I'm not sure what you mean. Trait just means a detail. Genetic means it can be passed to future offspring. Am I answering that correctly?
Yes sir!
I’ve been tryna contact you bud nothing! I’m trying to see if I’m officially on the email listing for the first new hatchlings. I’m not sure what’s going on. Don't buy from Slither Inc. Enough said.

Trick Question. Never buy dwarf retics. Mainland baby!
lol

I realy hope I misunderstood your comment, because I don't agree with it at all, not one BIT, But Garrett is still awesome....✌🏼😉✌🏼👈🏼
Calling out breeders and assuming their intentions (bottom dollar or otherwise) is not a good game to play. Be careful
What is wrong with N.E.R.D? Curious
