So when Dionysus saw Ari not only kill the person who had ruined her life but stick a giant middle finger to Zeus, he most likely confused a high level of admiration with love that will later blossom into actual love.

Mythology Guy. Will you ever discuss Epic the Musical? Such as after it is done? Im not sure how mythologically accurate it is, but I think the music is amazing and is overall really cool
Imo the line is people standing up to the gods, so Riddy, Caeneus and Ari, plus who they'll incite, "the line appears, order wanes", Caeneus bringing people back, Ari and Riddy telling people the truth, maybe Orpheus singing about it, "the family falls" so the gods die/lose their power, "and Kaos reigns," Caeneus is Kaos? So he "rules" by being the giver of life? That's where my idea falls
I loved how the cereal Riddy (Eurydice) buys has a little toy bee in it and when she dies Orpheus opens it and throws the cereal everywhere, this is a reference to Aristaeus either a shepherd or the Greek god of beekeeping as he chased Eurydice in the myth mentioned in Virgil’s ‘Georgics’ as Aristaeus (Aristaios in the Greek spelling as Aristaeus is the Latin spelling of the god of beekeeping) chased Eurydice making her not see the snake that killed her. This later affects Aristaeus because all his bees die (as he is being punished for the death of Eurydice) so he has to wrestle the old man of the sea (Proteus) to get answers (which he does). So I thought that was a cool hint to the myths also. Also, I believe Aristaeus mentioned having caused Eurydice’s death and then having to wrestle Proteus because his bees die is not just a shepherd with the same name as the god but rather the god himself (I may be wrong). As many people in Greek Mythology share the same name but they often are completely different other than sharing a name. However, two Aristaeus’ who are beekeepers seem like a coincidence so I like to believe they are the same person both the god of beekeeping.
I really liked this video. Thank you for giving your take on it. There are other details that you pick up, such as the name of the fatal van incident (avoiding spoiler). Watched Kaos, loved it, and wished I could remember more of my elementary school teaching of these myths.
One think i didnt like, was the lack of mythological creatures - the servant were humans, the Minotaur was a guy in a mask. I think it would have been fun to see satyrs and centaurs just hanging out in public. Also maybe Ganumedes could have been added to Olympus.
Dionysius falling for Ari at that moment is dark and funny. (You know dark comedy) And the entire season, it is made obvious Dionysius doesn't understand what love is.
At first I was really confused because it seemed like all the creative liberties were unnecessary and overcomplicating the story, but they pulled it together in a really creative way in the second half!
I don't know if you should do an inaccuracies video cause its not supposed to be accurate, but a video on what's the same and what's different for people that don't know the myths would be really cool. Also would love to here about the little details that people that don't know the myths wouldn't understand or notice
It was a very short show - only few episodes made the complete story. I do not see any sense in considering the skin colour of the characters. After all it all takes place in modern times, modern world, with technology, jewelery and entertainment at current state. It does not regard the myth 'ages' so skin colour is irrelewant. Dionises was very fun in the show. And Jeff Goldblum - it was hard for me to wrap my mind around this character he played . He's awesome :)
16:55 he liked the moment because , he witnessed someone standup to there father something he cant do, but the way he says it is abit comedic which is in charater for how he acts thru the story
I think something that you could cover that you’ll really enjoy analyzing is the concept album of Epic: The Musical by Jorge Rivera-Herrans. One of the best musicals I’ve listened to, and it’s not even done yet. Although, it is worth mentioning that anyone experiencing this musical should absolutely listen to it in order. (Troy Saga, Cyclops Saga, Ocean Saga, Circe Saga, Underworld Saga, Thunder Saga, and the last one for now, the Wisdom Saga.)
Ariadne did have brothers, severals in fact. The main one was Deucalion. After Minos died, Deucalion took the throne of Crete. Phaedra was also Ariadne sister. And the Minotaur was her half brother. They shared the same mother, the goddess Pasiphae, but not the same father, since Minotaur father was the Cretan bull, while Ariadne father was Minos.
One thing i noticed is when Charon helped you-know-who: the first interaction with the sea monster is scylla but the monster that eats the dude is charbolis, Also minor nit pick, but its awefully green in the mortal world for Persephone to currently residing in the underworld
@@pqcowboychanel Then what is she a god of. She can't be a god of spring because spring is caused by her return to the mortal realm, and being reunited with Demeter. If she is in the underworld when its not spring then it completely overthrows the idea of her being a god of anything. She can't be a chthonic god because she also didn't eat the pomegrante. IF you want to argue that that idea of the pomegrante being a way she gained power is false in this scenario, it still doesn't answer the question as to what she is the god of.
Watching Kaos was fascinating, because, someone over there *really* understood the characters of the Greek Gods, and modernised their idiosyncrasies perfectly -except, for some incomprehensible reason, Hermes is wandering about, perfectly characterised, while people adress him as Dionysus. and babes I understand that it's good for the narrative if the underdog God foil is half human, but you can't just give me a sneaky thief character who has his own plans for power, and who literally -on accident- fulfills his role as a psychopomp, and who is willing to use trickery (like a fake watch) to solve his issues, and have the audacity to call him Dionysus. You even made him an otter, which is very un-Dionysian (the original autumn bear), but it's Hermes af Like, I think, at this point, just pretend Hermes is half human, and be done with it.
On the note of the Heracles vs Hercules topic, I have been in that argument before trying to explain that it's Heracles. But hey maybe for this series Hercules could have made more scene to use the name more people recognize, like those who watched things like the 90's TV series, the Disney movie or more recently the MCU (as feat in Thor 4 post credit) like it's a more well known brand name. I know it's Heracles a few others I'm sure, still Hercules feels like a brand name people use more than Heracles. My take away from Dionysus seeing Ari stabbing her dad scene was a reflection of how disillusioned he felt with his dad in the series. It's just my read as Ari feels so betrayed by their father and lashing out by stabbing Minos, where as Dionysus at that stage was trying to seek approval and just being reminded he isn't his brother so he sees her emote how he was feeling, and then he just blurted out about how he felt he was in love. Not amazing writing but as someone with daddy issues it's how I mentally translated the scene XDDD Also I'm not Greek in the slightest. My ass is Maori lol so I was watching this show for Cliff Curtis, my mum who was also Maori used to tell me and my bro Greek myth stories when were kids, so it was a full on nostalgia bait that worked and got me watching. Cliff was just hilarious even though I know it's Greek myth based, seeing Poseidon call Minos a kiss ass in a kiwi accent had me cackling. Never would I have thought I'd see what felt like a throw back to my Xena watching days.
I really enjoyed this show too. It's take on carrying the energy of the old myths while still feeling distinctly different is just good. I'm very excited to see where it's going.
Just finished the season and holy sh*t, this might be one of my favourite shows of all time, I absolutely love this show, it's dark, it's thrilling, its dramatic, has a small bit of comedy and all-round a very cool and interest representation of Greek Mythology in the modern day and just an amazing show and entertaining show all together. The performances by all the actors are phenomenal, and Jeff Goldblums Zeus and Janet McTeers Hera do some of the most abhorrent things I've seen on TV (the baby and... Dennis 😢😢😢, NOOOO DENNIS) The characters are performed amazingly, Stephen Dillanes, as Prometheus, who narrates the show as well as has a large role in it outside of narration, is probably the highlight for me. It is always great to see him on screen. The show both appears as if some stories in Greek myth have already happened and are popular stories, but they also save some Greek myths to be set in modern times, which i find really interesting. the modernisation of Orpheus and Eurydice was really enjoyable, and i loved how they represent these stories that are now happening in present-day Crete This show was amazing to watch and may be one of my favourite shows of all time 9/10 Stephen Dillane is now my fancast for a live action Mimir
17:00 : yes, this Dionysus is absolutely falling in love with a woman who kills her dad. Defying his father is the one thing he can’t bring himself to do and it fills him with shame, so he must be incredibly impressed by Ariadne at this moment. Also Ariadne kills his father because he just murdered his son, and Dionysus is the only Olympian of the show to value human life, so seeing Ariadne avenge her brother, even if it means going against authority and committing patricide, it must be validating for him. Though I admit until that point I also thought he was going to be with Orpheus.
There's a webseries on youtube called No Evil which is about a group of anthropomorphic spirits who are a blend of American literature (mainly wizard of oz)/history and indigenous mythology (with Aztec being the one focused on) dealing with dueling villages, four artifacts based off of the four tezcatlipocas, a rattle snake spirit with DID, a land of the dead that had elements of the wizard of OZ, and so many more.
I wonder what would happen if in a future season they introduced a new pantheon. (I am a huge fan of the idea that mythology is like the mcu and god of war and that they are all connected)
I LOVED watching Kaos. It took myths that i love, ACTUAL characterizations of the gods as they appear in mythology AND did put a cool new spin on it! AND HADES WASNT THE VILLAIN!
The only big difference or "inaccuracy" I noticed that you didn't already point out was Hera cheating on Zeus. In mythology, I don't think Hera ever cheats on him, she tries to overthrow him I think, but with how misogynistic Ancient Greece was, I don't think they thought that would be a thing the Goddess of Marriage and Women would ever do. But I thought that was a good plot point to add to this story. I credit my knowledge of greek myths to Red's videos from Overly Sarcastic Productions lol.
If you wanna know what people are ganna hate in a show where a cat dies it’s ganna be that right when I saw him flip the knife around I knew what was going to happen
I think one of my favorite parts of the series was the interpretation of Eurydice and Orpheus. It becomes clear through the series, to me at least, that orpheus did not truly love her as an equal. She was always the muse for him, but she was never an equal. He loved the feelings she made him feel, but never gave her the love of a true partner. His love was possessive, he never asked her if she wanted a song named after her, if she wanted to be on the posters, if she wanted to be with him in the afterlife. He made those decisions out of his love, but never once made a decision with her. It is a really well written one sided relationship and one of my favorite parts. (Edit) and to make it clear, i am not saying it was all on orpheus. Eurydice could have spoken up, yes. But someone in that position can really struggle with the idea of breaking someone who so clearly loves you so much in their way.
I look him up. Trigger warning for rape and transphobia: Caeneus was a beautiful maiden who turned down many suitors, one day, she caught the attention of Poseidon who proceeded to rape her. Then offered to grant her any desire she wanted, Caeneus asked to be made a man so she wouldn’t have to go through such a traumatic experience again. Poseidon granted her desire and made him invulnerable (I can’t remember why though). Caeneus became a skilled warrior, then one day he crossed paths with a herd of centaurs who mocked him for originally being a woman, Caeneus fought the centaurs who quickly discovered his invulnerability, so to defeat him they buried him alive under several trees.
If you're going to do an inaccuracy video on Kaos then I think you should mention that Caeneus is a Lapith and not an Amazon in the show. King Minos and his family and Queen Hecuba and her family are not contemporaries in myth. Glaucus is a son of Minos and Pasiphae and thus a brother to Ariadne but Glaucus' fate is really different.

6:47 Wait ARE YOU SAYING THAT GREEK MYTHOLOGY BELIEVED IN REINCARNATION? I thought that was from other myth’s Edit: I wanted to watch the series but it didn't convince me, the humor was the furthest thing from me, I'm glad you liked it
The answer is kinda on reincarnation. Only some people can get reincarnation (I think only those who go to elysian), they have to choose to be reincarnation (still lose memories thanks to one of the rivers), and if they get sent to elysian three time, they go to basicly super elysian (can't remember the name).
I know this comes down to personal perception, but the Dyionisus of the show is pretty close to what the greeks would invision him as (+ the mordern astethic), he is one of the young gods, the youngest Olimpian, and pretty much in shape. He is comparable to Heracles in a lot of cases as he is the closes of the gods to a hero, he is also associate with Alexander the Great. Greeks do depict him with a beard and looking older in some pottery but never "out of shape". I'm pretty sure that the beer belly image is more reflective of the renaisance than the classical period. So I was happy that we were getting a Dyonisus that is more in line with myth instead of going for the cliché image of "god of wine". I'm courious if in future seasons they are going to play into his connection with the dead, as he brings back Ariadne and his mom, and sometimes even he himself dies and comes back. There's also the fact that in Orphic tradition he is the true heir of Zeus, and I don't know if they are planning to do somithing with that, as he seem to want to join the "let's destroy the gods" plot by the end.
Did you ever heard about "EPIC: The Musical"? They are songs about the Ulysses/Odysseus journey from the Trojan War and it's still going on, there are some little mistakes with the story but I really love the saga! You should listen it and make maybe a video reaction
I actually don't think Ichor is described as gold in any ancient greek texts, I'm pretty sure the gold originated from Percy Jackson. It's interesting how much of an impact pjo had on other greek myth media.
I made the mistake of watching the final episode first and then watching from the second episode onwards. I thought it was a stylistic choice since defying fate and dealing with the future is a major theme. Like, they show you what happens first and then show how all the characters ended up there. But no, I'm just an idiot

I gave the show 3 episodes, bur I couldn't continue, I found Riddy very unlikable and the plot non-sensical. Very interested to he your take on this show!
The one thing it caught me off guard was Zeus having a shotgun not his lightning bolt I think it is kind of good of how some scenes and episodes interpret Greek mythology and some things in the episodes and scenes infuriate me like how the Minotaur was described.
I have a lot of questions. 1- Where did the minotaur get its name? We go into the show expecting that the minotaur is what we would expect a minotaur to look like, but seeing its actually just a savage man with a helmet leaves with a lot more questions than the show is willing to answer. In the 3rd episode we see that the Trojan 7 were sent into the labyrinth to be killed by the minotaur. With hindsight of who the minotaur is, how would he be able to 1v7 trojans? He doesnt have combat training and is just a really angry guy. Its also safe to assume that these 7 arent the first people to be executed this way, since it's very heavily implied by what Daedalus says to Ari. In greek mythology the name Minotaur comes from Minos - the king of crete, and taur - bull or relating to a bull. Glaucus isn't a bull, and had the name Minotaur before Daedalus gave him the helmet. Where does it come from. 2- What is Persephone the god of? When starting the show we can see its very much not winter, providing that its quite warm outside and trees have their leaves. When we finally enter Hades for the first time, we see Hades and Persephone, who are happy together. This begs the question of how the season change in the mortal realm. Going further into the show, we hear from Persephone that Hera made up the myths that she is in the underworld against her will, and that she ate the pomegranate. In greek mythology, the myth she is probably talking about is the one of how she became a chthonic deity. The idea of this myth is that every winter she is in the underworld ruling with Hades, and while doing so Demeter is struck with sadness and depression causing her care over the warmth and plants to end. When Persephone returns, it brings spring because Demeter is finally over her depression and sadness. This is why she is regarded as the god of spring. If in the show this is assumed to be false (which can be reasonable due to the reasons above), she would therefore probably never leave the underworld and therefore no longer be a god of anything. 3-What is the point of Eurydice and Orpheus' story? Ignoring the very obvious perversion of their story, Eurydice is supposedly the main figure of the story, being the one responsible for the falling of the gods, or so it seems she should be. Her not being in love with Orpheus anymore is a decision I do not understand from a narrative perspective. Her falling in love with Caeneus in the underworld also provides no reason narratively. Her then being an A**hole to Orpheus once he saves her has no reason narratively, because once she does we only see her for a total of 2 more minutes. Eurydice was supposed to bring information about the Frame and the Nothing to the mortals of Krete, yet we do not see that happen before the end of the show. So not only was her character completely butchered from the original greek myth but so was her story, for literally no narrative or character reason. She doesn't even finish or accomplish her Prophecy, which has been the entire through line of the show.
I really liked this show and probably one of the few times where HADES ISN'T THE VILLAIN.
Me too

Its called bullshit script mate let it go
I mean usually prophecies are vague and mysterious so ig it makes sense?
The wrinkle appears, Zues loses control, The Family go there separate ways, and Kaos reigns
Absolutely criminal that this show got canceled.
Babe, wake up, new MythologyGuy video just dropped😉😉
I really liked this video. Thank you for giving your take on it. There are other details that you pick up, such as the name of the fatal van incident (avoiding spoiler).
Watched Kaos, loved it, and wished I could remember more of my elementary school teaching of these myths.
One think i didnt like, was the lack of mythological creatures - the servant were humans, the Minotaur was a guy in a mask. I think it would have been fun to see satyrs and centaurs just hanging out in public. Also maybe Ganumedes could have been added to Olympus.
That's true but, it's kinda uncomfortable to put how the minotaur happened in a modern setting, so I'm kinda ok with that part.
The guy who played Prometheus also played Stannis in Game of Thrones. Literally didn’t expect to see him as Prometheus but he did a great job though
Dionysius falling for Ari at that moment is dark and funny. (You know dark comedy)
And the entire season, it is made obvious Dionysius doesn't understand what love is.
At first I was really confused because it seemed like all the creative liberties were unnecessary and overcomplicating the story, but they pulled it together in a really creative way in the second half!
Never would've guessed in a million years that Ian Malcom would one day become Olympus' king.
The last two are Vengeance saga and Ithica saga release dates TBA
@@cisalzlman Didn’t know that. Thanks.
Didn't one of Minos' sons die in Athens and that's why they had to send sacrifices for the Minotaur?

One thing i noticed is when Charon helped you-know-who: the first interaction with the sea monster is scylla but the monster that eats the dude is charbolis, Also minor nit pick, but its awefully green in the mortal world for Persephone to currently residing in the underworld
They mention that the myths are made up by the gods, and hera made that part up.
@@pqcowboychanel did she say why?
@@pqcowboychanel Then what is she a god of. She can't be a god of spring because spring is caused by her return to the mortal realm, and being reunited with Demeter. If she is in the underworld when its not spring then it completely overthrows the idea of her being a god of anything. She can't be a chthonic god because she also didn't eat the pomegrante. IF you want to argue that that idea of the pomegrante being a way she gained power is false in this scenario, it still doesn't answer the question as to what she is the god of.
I would say it's more like Greek myths in a modern setting. Like when they do Shakespeare but with 1920 set dressing.
I like how hades doesn’t really fear zeus he doesn’t really fear zeus as much as the others that is you can tell they out alot thought into this show
Watching Kaos was fascinating, because, someone over there *really* understood the characters of the Greek Gods, and modernised their idiosyncrasies perfectly -except, for some incomprehensible reason, Hermes is wandering about, perfectly characterised, while people adress him as Dionysus.
and
babes
I understand that it's good for the narrative if the underdog God foil is half human, but you can't just give me a sneaky thief character who has his own plans for power, and who literally -on accident- fulfills his role as a psychopomp, and who is willing to use trickery (like a fake watch) to solve his issues, and have the audacity to call him Dionysus.
You even made him an otter, which is very un-Dionysian (the original autumn bear), but it's Hermes af
Like, I think, at this point, just pretend Hermes is half human, and be done with it.
Not amazing writing but as someone with daddy issues it's how I mentally translated the scene XDDD
Also I'm not Greek in the slightest.
When we first see Hades, him and that video felt like a politician spreading propaganda to get the people to believe them lol.
Oh my god this was such an amazing series, Ian Malcom did an amazing job of capturing the “Hubris” of Zeus as always.
I always enjoy the actor who plays hades. He has such an amazing presence
I really enjoyed this show too. It's take on carrying the energy of the old myths while still feeling distinctly different is just good. I'm very excited to see where it's going.
I’m pissed at the 8 episode format Netflix has been doing lately. But yeah fingers crossed for a second season 🤞🏾
it's not just Netflix but it is VERY annoying
Just finished the season and holy sh*t, this might be one of my favourite shows of all time, I absolutely love this show, it's dark, it's thrilling, its dramatic, has a small bit of comedy and all-round a very cool and interest representation of Greek Mythology in the modern day and just an amazing show and entertaining show all together.
The performances by all the actors are phenomenal, and Jeff Goldblums Zeus and Janet McTeers Hera do some of the most abhorrent things I've seen on TV (the baby and... Dennis 😢😢😢, NOOOO DENNIS)
The characters are performed amazingly, Stephen Dillanes, as Prometheus, who narrates the show as well as has a large role in it outside of narration, is probably the highlight for me. It is always great to see him on screen.
The show both appears as if some stories in Greek myth have already happened and are popular stories, but they also save some Greek myths to be set in modern times, which i find really interesting. the modernisation of Orpheus and Eurydice was really enjoyable, and i loved how they represent these stories that are now happening in present-day Crete
This show was amazing to watch and may be one of my favourite shows of all time
9/10
Stephen Dillane is now my fancast for a live action Mimir
I definitely agree with the Dennis part, Dennis was my favorite character 😔
17:00 : yes, this Dionysus is absolutely falling in love with a woman who kills her dad. Defying his father is the one thing he can’t bring himself to do and it fills him with shame, so he must be incredibly impressed by Ariadne at this moment. Also Ariadne kills his father because he just murdered his son, and Dionysus is the only Olympian of the show to value human life, so seeing Ariadne avenge her brother, even if it means going against authority and committing patricide, it must be validating for him. Though I admit until that point I also thought he was going to be with Orpheus.
I hope there will be an inaccuracy video on season one some day
I was hoping for so long that he would cover this show.

In one of the Theseus myths, she had lots of brothers
Also we need to give them congrats for the somg Orpheus sang its really top notch
Zach Snyder is making an Animated Ragnarok movie called Twilight of the Gods for Netflix and it looks pretty good.
looks shit
I liked it, it’s definitely graphic though… They had some cool nods to religious history. It’s very much the Norse version of Blood of Zeus.
It feels like a more grounded version of the American Gods
If you wanna know what people are ganna hate in a show where a cat dies it’s ganna be that right when I saw him flip the knife around I knew what was going to happen
I would have liked it if they leaned a little bit more Dionysus being the god of madness, it's an aspect of him we don't see that often
I like that Zeus is very hateable Jeff does an amazing job at being the kitty murdering villain
I'm a huge fan. It's original but obviously inspired
16:50 i think Dionysus being the God of wine, vegetation, fertility, festivity, ritual madness, religious ecstasy, and theatre,
was drunk or high
I always thought Greek mythology would be awesome for a Comedy, and it’s cool that it’s done in this Show.
I should definitely watch it
I look him up.
Trigger warning for rape and transphobia:
Caeneus was a beautiful maiden who turned down many suitors, one day, she caught the attention of Poseidon who proceeded to rape her.

Wait ARE YOU SAYING THAT GREEK MYTHOLOGY BELIEVED IN REINCARNATION? I thought that was from other myth’s
Edit: I wanted to watch the series but it didn't convince me, the humor was the furthest thing from me, I'm glad you liked it
The answer is kinda on reincarnation. Only some people can get reincarnation (I think only those who go to elysian), they have to choose to be reincarnation (still lose memories thanks to one of the rivers), and if they get sent to elysian three time, they go to basicly super elysian (can't remember the name).

@@darmorel549 Oh, I see thank you for the information
@@TheMythologyGuy1 Thanks
Plato believed in reincarnation.
It feels to me that Dionysus is, in some part, the "Kaos" in the prophecy. He is the god of madness, after all.
Started watching this video...thought "huh that sounds interesting..." went and binged it and then came back :p
I just put it on because there was nothing else but after 1 episode I was hooked and stayed up late to finish

What are your thoughts on epic the musical
Funny; he doesn't look like a short pale man with a black robe, 3 sharp teeth on the lower jaw, a blue symbol on his forehead and dark magic powers.
