I had a random encounter with Julie Andrews at CBS Television City. I was carrying a box containing gift bags for an awards show that was very large but not heavy at all down an elevator. Can I help you with that?!" and was honestly surprised to hear anyone offer to help (my coworkers didn't!), much less someone with an English accent. That was fun. When I was in my 20’s 30’s I worked in a high end bistro type restaurant. The first day on the job I met Mercedes McCambridge, a lovely woman. Then after that, I was with the restaurant about 12 years. I was lead on the floor and took care of all celebrities. I met everyone from Andy Warhol to Liza Minnelli. It was a lot of fun. I always treated them as any other guest that came in. I never called them by their names, always Sir and Miss, and I never once asked for an autograph. I also kept all autograph seekers from their table. I must have left an impression on them because a handful of times, if they were in the area again, some of them remembered my name and asked for me to take care of them. I even met my high school crush who was on a highly rated show. The whole time I was thinking “ask me out! ASK ME OUT!”. LOL.
I wanted the whole interview to stop and concentrate there on Hitch. What a master entertainer and the much maligned Torn Curtain happens to be a favorite of mine. I though Julie was excellent in it.
