would loved to have seen it with an heater, auto refill especially with such a large build volume and maybe a 12k display to match with the build volume
Agreed on the heater, there is a resin pump, but it's seperate.
Why do none of the big brands (anycubic phrozen, elegoo) have vat heaters, temperature is such an important variable to account for when printing stuff that it's just mind boggling that the biggest brands in the industry ignore it
True that. You'd think at least one of the big guys would add one and make a big marketing deal out of having it.🤣
Although right now I'd need a chiller, it's nearly 40C in my print room but I'm only running FDM in there atm so no problem.
Those will be in next years printers.
Uniformation GKTwo. That's the smart choice
Truth! I went with the Uniformation GKtwo last week 100% for the heated vat. I will have it running in the garage and this is what I needed. I would have preferred a big brand for customer service and history of reliability but without any options they lost out this time.

Awesome review! I am an OG mega owner and it is a great printer. This one look even better. I saw somewhere a picture of a mega pro version at a trade show, let's hope it has the onboard program storage.

Edit: 6:20 that perforated build plate was created specifically for your B-rolls and noone can convince me otherwise

Is the offset settings good enough on this printer that you can print part surfaces directly on the build plate? For instance for functional prototypes?
uff, i think that the holes use more resin than the prints. Good review.
Any chance you might do a video on your model experiences with resin. E.g it takes 10 hours for this one but make sure you orient this way for better support and no warping etc etc
I have the saturn 3 ultra and the difference in pixels makes a huge difference to me. It astounds me that the 3 ultra is a third of the price. Yes, i ahve issues with it, but it amazing quality with a pretty decent screen size. Vat heating, im sure will be on the 4.
I can't wait to go get one... Should be soon... Hopefully 😅

Thank you for another awesome video Ross. I purchased the GKTWO after seeing your video and havent had any issues! I mostly print larger statues so I'm thinking of picking up a larger format printer. Which would you recommend based on size and quality. I'm not particularly interested in speed. Do you think this is the way to go, or are there new printers on the horizon I should wait for? Mine struggles to do big prints and now there is a layer of resin fused to the build plate that I can't for the life of me remove😢

The one thing that Creality did right with the Halot Mage was the flip cover. There are so many other little annoying issues with that printer im constantly fighting, but damn do i love the way they did the cover, so much nicer than taking the full top off like my Mighty 8k or this version of flip top on the Mega 8k S. This flip top is definitely nicer but the location of the hinge is odd, making it go so far back behind the printer, not a fan of that
I bought the Mega 8K when it first came out and I HATE those holes in the build plate. They were enough of a pain in the ass that I stopped using the printer for MONTHS. Finally, I got a piece of aluminum cut to the right size and replaced it and have never looked back. The holes add nothing. Mine prints beautifuly without them.
My very first resin printer was a sonic mini 4K and I've yet to get anything else and quite frankly I'm scared to get something that's not phrozen
So is the anyformation the only one with a heater that everyone should be buying? I’m still saving for their kit

I noticed the Slicer program that comes with this printer does not have this printer under settings. I've reached out to Phrozen and I'm waiting on a reply. Can anyone help? Is there another slicer program that is compatible with the Sonic Mega 8K S?

I am an Elegoo Saturn 2 owner and I would like to upgrade to Phrozen Mega 8k S to take advantage of the 15-inch platter. I tried to design using the new version of Chitubox (2.0) where you can load the profile of the Mega 8kS. To my great amazement, I learned that the print time forecast, instead of decreasing (as I thought), actually doubled. According to the software, the Phrozen Mega 8kS takes about double the time to print the exact same project compared to my Saturn 2. I therefore wanted to know if it is an evaluation setting error of the Chitubox software or if the Mega 8ks is really more " slow" of the Saturn 2. (I would add that the print time data that emerges from Chiutubox is the same as what I see when I select the standard Mega 8K, so I suspect that the chitubox profile of the Mega 8KS is the same as the standard 8K.

No, this is a fast printer, coupled with the ACF film and a faster motor, you get faster prints from this at the cost of a little quality
It seems very strange not to have any networking on a unit of this calibre.
I mean adding a network would cost what, $10-15 on a $1500 printer and make it far more useful in a commercial environment.
I'd love that 15in screen size but my finances are struggling to let me get a half decent 10inch.

3:03 - It's bad enough that you said the height of the build volume is 30 mm (presumably 300 mm) but you actually took the time to put that big orange graphic on the screen to reinforce that it's 30 mm when it's clearly much more. People often misspeak when making a video and correct it with an on screen graphic, but it's rare to see the graphic reinforcing the obviously incorrect information.
It's a pity no one was able to INSTANTLY spot the mistake
@@atapene - I agree. When the video was being edited, it looks like the obvious mistake would have INSTANTLY been spotted and corrected instead of repeated.

Personally, I notice a lot of design oversights here. The handle issue is major. If the vat knobs cant be spun easily, the handles must come off, even for those with small hands. The UI is way too basic. Might function well, but they already have the "high quality" UI. If they want to strip out features because it's a base model product thats fine, but at least give us the good UI. The hinged lid appears to go back 4 or 5 inches. Thats a MASSIVE distance, especially when considering this is a large format printer, so the printer base dimensions themselves are already big. The lid going back that for will likely exceed the standard 24 inch depth of most US based countertops, and if it doesnt, the printer will be so far forward and just look stupid when the lid isnt open. There is pump recall system options in the firmware, but it's not included in the printer??? Seems odd to me. I think I noticed some other printer issues in your video that would bother me a lot. For this price point the physical build quality, printer brand name, quality, etc.. might be great, but I think those reasons alone would gate keep me from purchasing

It's a Patreon exclusive model, you need to sign up to their patreon. I have advised them that this is not clearly explained on their website and they will fix it, but they are so busy with their next model at the mo.

you need to redo the bit about zooming in on the print as the camera you use went blurred ! Its the critical thing the layering and detail ability and your video camera fails to focus on it ! get some caarefully taken with good depth of field PHOTOS taken on a dSLR macro lens. or place it on a flatbed scanner.
it's nigh on impossible to shoot this close without a microscope. please take those shots as, wow, that's so close the human eye can't perceive it. But the shots are not the camera, or the lens, it;s me....

I assume it is 300mm otherwise it would be useless. With 3cm build height.

The recent large scale printers on kickstarter, which are faster, cheaper, and have a bunch of other features like heated vat, air purifier, resin feed/unfill, built in cure station... have kinda already made this model redundant tbh...

Printers in kickstarter... There is a world of difference between having something on kickstarter and actually having a product ready for mass production and sale to the public
@@LFC4LIFEJEDI True, there is risk involved with any KS project, though I actually think all of the companies on there right now will deliver based on what I've seen (you can see videos in their updates showing mass production already underway.) And if you don't want to take that risk, I believe most will be available at retail in the not too distant future, I think the Apex already is actually.

Hi Ross, it's subtle but it's 100% there all of a sudden in this video. There's a quality to your VO which is similar to that of a zoom/skype call. There's a Destiny youtuber called Houndish who has the same thing and it's very annoying when you listen on a decent system. I guess your VO bitrate is too low...?

@@FauxHammer Glad you can hear it too. It's not obvious but once you notice it you can't get away from it. I hope it's an easy one for you to diagnose and fix. I listen to TH-cam through my high end hifi gear so maybe that amplifies it more for me than someone listening through headphones...Please let me know what it was once you have found the cause & I'll tell Houndish (who I can't listen to anymore!).

Sending my Elegoo saturn 3 ultra back on Monday for a replacement to be sent. Buuuuuuuut... Maybe I'll get a refund and put it towards healing the beating my bank accounts about to take... lol
Oh man i feel like buying anything above 25 microns is getting spooky for miniatures. But for life sized waifus on the other hand.....
Massive downside to that lid and in my opinion a silly design because it takes up more room, it needs to be further away from a wall or anything because the way that silly lid flips back it’s ok if you have loads of room but it’s still not ideal
Every video for the last 5 months has been about 3D printers. One was about something else 5 months ago, and all the videos before that were 3D printer vids.

I'm going to say this printer is nothing but a downgrade from the Mega 8K It's the same display sure get ACF film pretty sure I can put that in my Mega 8K oh wait I already did You get a resin pump feature You get a built-in hook I printed the adapter hook I understand that you know it's nice having a big strong metal one but I've been using a pet g one for I don't know 2 years now still shows no sign of wearing out that extra height you start talking about that hook makes a huge difference think about if you could raise a hundred more millimeters that all the sudden would make bigger models hang quite easy I don't print huge vertically but I can say I love my mega 8K for certain reasons and I hate it for certain reasons and this printer did not fix any of the reasons I hate it for. That cover looks cheap it looks flimsy You're talking about it holding on an angle and I get it it does nice but those nice metal doors well they're just that nice sure they're thin sheet metal but they're nicer than a piece of colored plexiglass. Really what they need to do was put a better screen in it cuz really all this is is s means stripped down
I think that's how Phrozen is marketing it, a stripped down version of the Mega 8K.
