You’re so clever using the little plastic scales as individual molds. I’m going to make a tail but not quite like this, more Barbie doll sized. I made a prototype but didn’t understand how to add pigment until now! I also love your h2o videos. I’ve been thinking about silicone tails for a while now and your tutorials are the easiest to follow. You make such a beautiful Mermaid too and you’re an amazing swimmer. Heyy other question? Im bizzy now with the clay. I got 10 kg brown clay but if its dry its breaking And im getting sick of it How do you do it Do you but silicone on wet clay or dry
Hey, hope you're well! :) Gorgeous tail! You made a great job! :) The colors and the design is very beautiful! :) I'm looking forward to see how it will looks when you will swimming into the water! :) By the way, my silicone merman tail of Syrena from Pirates Of Caribbean: On Stranger Tides that I began to do 1 year and a half/2 years ago is processing very well! I'm still working on it! :) I have a few individuals scales to glue on the body and I'm working on the caudal fin/ fluke right now :)
This tutorial seems easier than the H2o one and since you remove the scales you could make multiple tail to swim in without needing to buy more scales. Or instead of buying enough scales to cover the whole tail do it in portions and remove the existing one and use them again so you don't need as many scales per tail
Imagine what you look like wearing a siren tail and how would you feel about that? Also siren mermaid tails are 100% possible to make and it’s going to be my first one. Extended version is possible too
I’ve never seen scales done that way before and it’s super creative! Does the foam make the tail super floaty? Do you think the foam will mold when wet?
Omg hiii! Thank you! About the foam: The foam has a water flow trough system ( open cel structure) and there’s an anti-mold layer throughout, and in the foam, when I bought it! It’s pretty cool stuff :) and no it doesn’t make it floaty, it’s just a bit more difficult to swim in because it does fill with water
Really cool project! Thank you so much for sharing your techniques and ideas :) i am not planning on making a silicone tail but I still really appreciate your willingness to help others improve their own projects :D!

Today I finally got to do a test swim with my H2O mermaid tail in the water, but because of the silicone it latterly started to fall apart in the water, thankfully I got it out of the water before any real damage happened and was able to save it. I wish you kept the sharp ends of the tail to look more like the ones in the movie. As the round edges remind me of a goldfish still beautiful but a little different
actually because the plastic is quite sharp, the edges broke off, but they were a bit sharper I swear! Next time I will make them sharper especially for you!
Hi I have quite a few questions for you but first off I would like to say that you did a great job and I love it so much. How much did it cost total and how much time did it take? What scales would you recommend for a Mako Mermaids inspired tail? Would the crystal necklace technique work with a ball shape attached to a silver mermaid tail ring for a moon ring replica? Would you consider doing a tail time challenge or a cost limit tail challenge? I know that's a lot of questions but it would really mean a lot if you answered them.
hey hii! no problem I love answering questions!! how much did it cost in total hmmm? uhm... about 250? maybe less maybe more? for a mako inspired tail I would recommand the technique I used in the vide, becouse no scales will fall off! check out some sites becouse there are several cool scale sequin designs to choose from! I actually thought the same thing for a mako's ring!! It would totally work to make a clay ring amd turn it into a mold, I would fill it with blue see trough resin and paint the tail part silver! And a budget tail challenge sounds like a great idea! I'm also thinking of doing an easier tail for the people that want a realistic tail but don't want to spend to much money or time on it :) Hope these answered your questions!!

I really want to make a tail of my own so I have a couple questions:) what exact aquarium silicone did you use? ( what brand) and where did you get the foam? The tail looks absolutely amazing! Also how many plastic scales did you use?
