- The often-told legend of Murphy Ranch goes something like this:
As Hitler’s army was growing in the 1930s, the Nazi-sympathizing owners of the land at the base of Rustic Canyon - Norman and Winona Stephens - joined forces with a German spy called Herr Schmidt to build an elaborate safehouse on their land. Isolated from the outside world, the enclave had a razor fence, patrol dogs and marching guards. The three enemies of the state planned on waiting for Hitler to invade America, at which point they would emerge from their base to help the Nazis take control of the country. In 1941, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the trio were said to have been arrested by the FBI at the ranch. The place has been abandoned ever since.
Another rumor hints at an attempt to build a “Nazi White House” on the property in preparation for the Third Reich’s arrival in America , to take over the country .
