I really don't get that feeling, tbh. Detached, sure. Distressed at the realization, definitely. But not suicidal. There's a certain understated absurd glee in his description of seeing the progression of mankind, and the understanding that he only doesn't fit in because the world as it is perceived by those around him simply cannot contain his expression of self. I get a lot of hope from this, not the despair I associate with suicide.
