"When all else fails say hi to your kids."
Massive respect to Bill for his fighting anxiety attacks and putting himself through hell when being on SNL making us laugh .... He is truly a unique talent ...Thank You for having him back on the show .We love you Bill ...Simply amazing
Is it just me, or has Bill Hader really come into his own the last few years? He seems so much more confident. Maybe it's because he has kids now, but he just commands the room more now that he's older.
+intrepidmolasses that and the inevitable febrility...try Prevagin©®™ "It prevents aging!" (NOT)
I mean, his kids aren't like 2 year olds so what does that have to do with it? Lol
Usually as you get older, the less fucks you give.
Bill Hader went to Andy Richter's podcast "three questions with..".
He opened up about anxiety and how he overcame all of that .
Sorry, did you even listen to the monologue?
Because it seems like absolutely none of you did before starting in on this thread.
Douchebags
I love how he doesn't stutter or get too caught up and distracted by the people changing his clothes but keeps on goin
It IS amazing because he has major anxiety every episode. He hides pretty well.
@@liftclimbsquash Beep beep Richie.
There's just something about Mulaney's writing where you can almost hear him, regardless of who is saying it.
JM is a comedy god, just as JM (le Lizard King) was a musical god
@Samara A And the ending/saying hi to his daughters ended up being the perfect transition
What did Mulaney have to do with this monologue? He left SNL's writing team years before this aired. He hosted himself only 2 weeks later.
@@WilliamMcFarlandVideo he was with bill for this ep, hanging out, so he and lorne re-wrote the monologue
@@WilliamMcFarlandVideo He and Bill were a writing team during their time on SNL (e.g. they created the character of Stefon together).
He’s visibly relaxed when he mentions his children 😄
He was getting into character
Triple H
In the Jason Bateman interview he said they were still writing the cue cards when he went on and they ran out. And Lorne told him if anything goes wrong just talk about your kids.
@@robbg which is exactly why I came here to watch this, haha, he did amazing of course.
The SNL crew deserves much more respect and appreciation for without them, SNL would not be the same. They're just as integral to this show as the awesome cast.
The cast is more important imo but the crew also deserve a lot of respect.
Who gives a fuck?
mikecantreed About you? Oh, not one person.
Having worked as an actor for several years, I can tell you that the crew is absolutely important and does deserve a lot of respect. If showbiz was a fine steak, the actors would be the meat, whose quality represents the actor or actress's talent and training. The cast and crew are the seasoning, the grill, the tools, everything else you need to prepare the steak. So like that steak, without the cast and crew, a performance cannot be done.
The fact you think there is cast & crew and that's it shows you know about nothing.
Importance: writers, performers, etc,
everybody ends with “we gotta great show for you tonight” but bill ended with “roll the tape” why haven’t I noticed that before
Is anyone else just obsessed with how he changed his voice when he said "California"? No, just me? Oh, well
Nope, not just you! I felt the same, my dude.
Ahhhh hhahaha i miss The Californians
biiiig ditto; i need a link to the full episode
Ugh when i heard that for the first time i screamed
Haders gonna hade.
the fact it took him a split second from finding out there were no cue cards left to remembering to talk about his kids in case of that happening is incredible to me. there's no way of telling whats written in and what's not, I guess improv is essential in hollywood but Bill is just so good at what he does - nevermind his frequent anxiety attacks that aren't noticeable unless you know about them!!??
Devon? Wwwwhaaaaat arrrrre youuuuu doing here? 😂😂
oooooohwhhhat*
For anyone counting, that's a 35-second quick change. They can do them a lot faster, and also while running between sets.
I hope he knows how much everyone loves and respects him.
SNL will never be the same without bill and Kristen. :(
Kristen hosting this week
I still can't believe this was a last minute thing
Still funny. Such a distinctive voice.
I find it amazing how quickly the costume team get the cast changed. I enjoyed watching how they did it in specials, but to me its just fascinating all the planning that goes into it.
10 seconds!
THAT TRANSITION FROM BILL TO DEVIN WAS SMOOOOOTHHHHHHH
I love Billy! ♥
Same girl. Same.
@@bsolberg Richie Tozier!
❤️
damn he did an amazing job with this...to have a quick change done to him on stage while still doing the monologue is incredibly impressive, especially knowing his history of anxiety
Bill Hader is genuinely one of my favorite people on the planet. He deserves to host this show more than he has.
... okay but I didn't realize until now how much I needed Bill Hader having his shirt ripped off.
When he mentioned his kids I died 😍
Rebecca Sweeney The story behind it is they were still working on the monologue 5 minutes before the show and Lorne told Bill to say hi to his kids if anything goes wrong. Bill did that when the cue cards guy went out of the cue cards.
That is in my opinion, (a long time SNL fan) one of the greatest SNL monologues of all time.
just the drop into that signature voice is fucking awesome
they figured this out while they were loading in the audience lol
That was quite a skillful quick change. I appreciate good stagehand work. Also, Bill's change into Devin was... hella, to say the least.
seeing the actual quick change is crazy, the work that goes into this stuff is wild
That was awesome! Was that the first time in television history for a skit to break the 4th wall with a real costume change written into the bit?
Not sure about recently but way back in the 70s I know they had a few monologues that segue into the skit that was coming up next. Like they had one where Dan Akroyd was doing his monologue and just started walking seemingly without any prompt. The camera followed him to the makeup chair where they put a fake moustache on and shoved him into this hideous tweed plaid jacket. He changed his voice to be a sleezy salesman seemlessly while still doing his monologue without missing a beat. He stood up and while still doing the monologue he walked back on stage and just transitioned into a carsalesman sketch.
@@Jokerbuzzed WOW! Thank you for telling me (us) this. :D
That man needs his own show now!
Bro... mobile.nytimes.com/2018/03/16/arts/television/bill-hader-hbo-barry.html
Jonah Warner good it’s about time!
Matt Coffern - he just said he had his own show in his monologue...were you not listening?
Fakest 'fan' ever.
#Barry on #HBO
Only 3 Minutes!!!!! More skit time!!!! #ThankYouBillHader
SNL with Bill was the best I still keep coming back to watch it!
"Honey, you and the kids take a cab home, I have to stop this."
Lmao
Hader in the House!!
His "Front Desk" bit is still my fav.
I want to marry Bill Hader and be happy forever. He just makes me smile!!
Everyone else monologuing: [ really humble and keeps thanking the crowd]
Bill: IS THAT ALL YOU'VE GOT?!?!
like, dude, I just say hey to my kids, take my clothes off, and get ready to go do some sketches- like -why are you thanking them? they wanted to come
I know that everyone has talked having anxiety while on the show but I really think Bill handled it the best. Just laughing through every sketch having fun and coming back. Jay Morh said he would have crippling panic attacks before every show and it was the worst two years of his life. Where is he now?
If you know the backstory on the smash hit HBO show Barry, you'll understand what 8 years on SNL did to him. He's almost lost sight in his left eye from the stress.
Bill hader will be remembered as a
human who made the earth a better place and made the life of others better...
Bill Hader is what this show has been missing the past weeks
DanLokar years
I’m unironically in love with him ♥️
i have a total crush on him after watching Barry
Crudimentary Questions me too🥵
Me three!
This deserves more views. Bill hader is the internet's new boyfriend. Treat him well.
Please, say yes. Did he do Stefon?
Arturo Millán Of course
Yep, he did.
He did em good
Yes
Yes
Yes Bill Hader!!
I am living for that little belly pooch you can see when they take his shirt off.
SAME. it’s a cute dadbod.
I love this man so much 😂♥️. Bill Hader is EVERYTHING!!
Wally (the guy who does the cue cards) ran out of cards for this. Like they didn’t write enough material. So Lorne told Bill “when in doubt, say hi to your kids” so he actually did lol. I love how he was quick enough to think about the California connection. I know it seems simple but I could never do that if I was live on national TV😂
seth stole them for corrections
When the old cast member is funnier than the entire current lineup just by standing there.
This monologue is funny and refreshingly different. Hader haters gonna hate Hader.
One of the few monologues on this show I’ll bother to watch, what a guy.
Me crying wishing i could see bill hader but im 13 and live in Michigan!!
Hi honey, by now you're 14, so ... ask your Mom to sign up for the free trial of hulu, then add HBO to it, then binge seasons 1-3. :)
I love this man so much! I was more excited for this episode than when some celebrity movie star hosts it.
LOL, he is a celebrity movie star. :D
I wish that one day Bill Hader can find some way to deal with his anxiety because I think he could be VERY good as a stand up
He did a set at Moontower Comedy Fest in Austin Texas in 2013.
i just love him so much
I'm so so proud of Bill
2:13 that was hot for no reason.
The best episodes are when previous writers or cast members host!
Bill Hader really is Mr Saturday Night Live
this is my only source of happiness
It would be *VERY* helpful this these SNL playlists were in order.
Happy Paddy's Day
Im drunk right now!
Andrew Burnette, firstly it’s either, St. Patrick’s Day, St. Paddy’s Day, or the actual Irish, Lá Féile Pádraig. For some reason US Americans think it’s Patty’s day which is wrong, Patty has no affiliation to Patrick, but Paddy does.
+Blake Catherine Jean oh, go chase away some imaginary serpents, reserpent and/or reereepent whilst y'all are ate it
But... but he didn't say "We got a great show for you tonight so stick around we'll be right back"
I’m trying to think of another monologue that doesn’t end with that… and I can’t.
Yesss..... comedy legend is backkkkkkk..
Congratulations on a monologue that was shorter and more fun than the other 96% on snl!
Bill hader greatness
Lol Bill Hader is like a little Jim Carrey to me
No he is better than jim carrey and he has his own field.. don't compare...
he is 6'2
This is 6th time watching this monologue 😂😍
Bill Hader is God
mausalus09 ☺
mausalus09 thanx dude I got lost in the moment Lol
No.
mausalus09 No.
+mausalus09 just take out the word OFFICIAL and we totally concur
I am honestly so impressed by the quick change
Bill Hader is adorable 😂
Thanks for the lesson Mr. Hader!
Everyone who enjoys Bill Hader should listen to the Bill Simmons podcast episode they did last week live at SXSW. It made me appreciate his weekend update piece 37x more.
Hader should host EVERY episode.
I love Bill!
I love Bill Hader is so quirkily funny 😂😂😂
a show with BILL HADER and ARCADE FIRE...I wish I was there!
This is amazing! I love him sooo much!!!
That quick change was awesome 👏
Bill Hader is the 🐐
Gosh, I love this man. 😽
OMG FINALLY i have been waiting for this the entire week 😭😭😭
That was a lot of work from a lot of people just for us to hear Devon's (proper) pronunciation of the word "California". Kudos to all involved. :D
That's how they do all clothes changes.
what a snarky 'compliment'
Stefon better return.
Miss him so much
Love him so much
Does anyone think Bill Hader looks a little like Rainn Wilson?
well he did play dwight in the japanese office skit
MythicTyrant they could definitely play bros
I was thinking he reminded me of Jim Carey
I was thinking he reminded me of Jim Carrey
a stretched out version, yes.
Wow i couldn't hold back my laughter...that was so so soo funny....
that quick change was magical
I think he really hated doing this. Love you Bill. ❤
All hail the Hader! Bow down!
I love that intro
Bill Hader rocks SNL
Bill is a Comedy God!
This guy is amazing.
I feel like a proud mother ... a 20 year old mother and her 40 year old son
Hader is a genius seriously all host should do this because some monologues run long #SNL
Bill 🥰
Bill is amazing. If you haven't watched Barry yet, it's a masterpiece.
I really wana see Eric Andre host
pollyboy12
That would be amazing
that would make for such a chaotic episode
He said that they ran short for this monologue, they weren't even done writing it by the time it came to air, so they just asked him to fill it out at the end by talking about his kids. You can sort of tell...
bill hader is heckin amazing
