Great video. To anyone reading, I highly recommend getting a SIM card WITH a phone number because a couple restaurants I visited in Seoul in June 2024 on my 2 week trip required you to put your Korean number down and you get a text when it's your turn to enter the restaurant. The restaurants I went to that required a number had a black podium type thing outside the restaurant.
Tip for getting a pocket WiFi (WiFi egg): I did bring my power-bank with me to charge the thing and you can charge your phone also. especially If you're on a long (day) trip. Trazy did help me a lot in preparing for my trip. They have great options for WiFi and sim cards!! personally I don't like public WiFi. you never know if someone is watching/recording you with a clone WiFi access point (creating a look a like WiFi-point but if you connect with it they can see your data, like if you do online banking/payments)
Trazy is brilliant, followed your advice from an earlier video you posted, ordered one and it was delivered very quickly , and instructions clear and it worked very well
I got an eSIM when I went on my trip recently and I only purchased one with unlimited data because I didn’t think I needed to call or text anyone because I have Facebook messenger and stuff. But when it came to buying a train ticket online, I needed my phone number linked to my bank account in order to confirm the purchase. That was difficult and stressful until I realized I can switch back to my American SIM card and use call and text if I’m connected to WiFi 😂
@@cheldersmith3282 yes I’m AT&T. I was able to use it as long as I was connected to WiFi. I switched to it to check because my mom was in n the states calling to try to get my phone to be able to use in Korea. That’s why I decided to check and that’s how I found out.
I got the Airalo e-sim for 10 days (admittedly very short period). Absolutely brilliant and the 5G speeds in South Korea were insane. Unlimited data too for around $30. Well worth it and easy to install. Also enabled me to keep my existing phone number. 🇰🇷👍
Airalo only provides data. "Keep my existing phone number" doesn't really mean anything since if you had gotten an esim with a korean phone number, you still would have kept your old phone number.
@@iu2 Missing the point. My comment was based on downloading an e- sim as opposed to installing a Korean sim card, which would have required a new number.
감사해요 Megan ! Good and helpful info. Like your pleasantly upbeat video. Leaving this Fri for Korea with my family of 4. Be well and keep up the good work.
Megan, appreciate all your tips. My cell phone carrier here in the United States is T Mobile. The Magenta Max 55+ plan I am on includes international data and unlimited text messaging in South Korea. Voice calls, regardless of whether international or not, is 25 cents a minute. Anyone on that plan can view the caps on data through their plan benefits, in store or calling customer care. Looking forward to my trip soon.
i LOVE your video, but one thing you missed to mention is that if you get a "regional" eSim with a calling/text plan, then you'll get an international country code, which will cost local Koreans International fees to call you. It's probably better to get a local South Korean eSim, instead of regional.
What a fantastic way to celebrate your 100th video on TH-cam! Megan, you always manage to highlight the best data options for us to enjoy more of your upcoming videos. Your attention to detail in every topic and the amazing fun and editing you bring to your videos are simply unmatched. Some of the plans in Trazy does seem cheaper if someone would travel for 30days and wouldn't use up the data before the plan ends. However, based on my personal experience, I still prefer to go directly to book directly at the airport counters if I want a local korean number + unli data for several days.
Very usefull your videos thank you. I have a question, I am coming to korea in october for 20 days, which sim card plan from Trazy do you recomend and will be enough? It is just for data that I want. And where in the Airport can I pick it up? Thank you 😘
Hi Megan, great video! very helpful, as always! I'm coming to Korea in August and I thought about doing the Tmoney but lately I've seen several videos and info on wowpass. Could you give me some info and suggestions on what is best? thank you!!!
Thanks for the video! I’m heading to Korea next month and plan to get an Airalo plan. However, I read that Airalo eSims had a tendency to drop in Korea and people had to manually select KT as the wireless provider. Did you experience anything like that? And are the speeds 5G?
Great vid. Wished I saw this video about trazy. I am visiting korea now with a data only plan on KT. I am still able to use Kakao Taxi without a Korean mobile number.
We're excited for our trip to South Korea in June-July. Yes, it will be hot, but one of us has lived in West Africa. Mint Mobile offers: 10-day pass: 500 mins, 500 texts & unlimited data with 10GB of high-speed data for $20. We can buy two passes to cover the entire trip. Would that be more logical than SIM? Would we be able to use the phone for restaurants and transit purchases? Merci et 감사합니다
Hmmm… since I haven’t used it myself it is hard to say! I will add my thoughts though: I wonder how good the signal will be here in Korea. You’re not guaranteed great connection (just high-speed and you don’t even know what they consider high-speed). I would look into that!
From what I have learned about eSIM is that it blows out your phone’s settings in an irreversible way. Is that true? I just need the connection for the trip and then to switch back on return to home country. If switching back is nuked, who would do that?
No - it won't blow your original settings. Just delete the e-sim when you've finished. I used an e-sim and then deleted it. No probs and great experience.
@@charlesbrenan6269 thank you! What if you have a hardware SIM card, does it disable it permanently or disable the ability to use physical SIM cards in the future? I read that it does, but have not had the easiest time proving or disproving it
@@Irys1997 No - just switch off the data roaming on your normal sim card so that the phone doesn't try to use your normal provider connection. Just make sure that you install the e-sim in a good WiFi area. Please i neee advice: what is the best / cheapest/ practical way to have a sim card and T money Card at the same time? Is Trazy have this offer please? Thanks
This was great timing for me, thank you sooooo much!!! I do have a question, Megan 😊 Would it be viable to get a SIM card through Trazy and then convert it to an eSIM? I’m asking because my current phone does accept physical SIM cards, but I just got a new one that doesn’t. And I do need to have a phone number cause I’m staying for 6 months and it’s required by the school I’ll be attending. While trying to figure out my new phone I realized it offers the option to convert a sim into an eSIM so I’m wondering if that might be easier and more convenient for me. What do you think? Thanks in advance, your videos have been a lifesaver for me!!! ❤

This is so stressful!
I have lived in Korea for years.. but it was 35 years ago and there were no phones. 🤣. Question about using pocket WiFI for our vacation in Seoul this year: are VoIP or voice apps for calling possible? I Googled it and some responses say that these apps are disabled in Korea.
Can you switch plan but keep the same old phone number in korea?...I mean when i 1st come to korea..i bought sim card using my Passport.. but when i got my ARC...i'm having trouble with the PASS authentication.. Tq
Hi, This is my first time buying eSim and a little confused because there is local eSim, regional and global eSiM. I'm going to Seoul , so which eSIM should I purchase. And can you tell me what's these different eSims are. Thankyou
Sorry to hear you're experiencing difficulties! However, I use it daily myself and have no issues. You also can log into your account and messages them personally through the help center. Hopefully that helps solve your problem~
I'll be moving back to Korea in about a week and a half. I saved my SIM card from KT in 2021, but not sure how much of a plan I'll get upon arrival without my ARC. I'd like to try Trazy, but not sure if I'm seeing their monthly rate listed on their website. Is it really only 3.000 won every 30 days? Emailed customer service and hoping to hear back soon!
So if both my husband and I get a SIM card off Trazy, will we be able to make and receive calls to each other? Will restaurants locally be able to call me with a phone number assigned to us?
Is there a e-sim I can get that has a Korean phone number? I will be in country for a little over three weeks. Airalo is data only which I have used in a couple other countries but this time I want a number.
I live in South Kora and your information is outdated. There are more cost efficient phone plans and companies out there that are better than any of this. In addition, some of the information that you have stated is incorrect. In addition, for those who that are foreigners, I recommend getting a Korean phone number so you can order food, etc. You don't need to use Coupang eats to order food as you need an alien registration card plus a korean bank to order from them. If you have questions, let me know.
