I'm currently in college and have many friends at other colleges also, and this is not a large room especially for a triple. If I'm understanding correctly when you say roommates, plural.
Most colleges in the U.S. require freshmen to live in the on-campus dorms their first year. After your first year is over, you have to find your own place to live (e.g. an apartment, house, etc.) :)
+ItsMandarin you can live on campus for as long as you want most of the time...that's why they have the first year/freshman must live on campus requirement. You don't have to find an apartment or a house etc your second year cause that's impractical. I don't know maybe it's different at your school...
