- The Marine Corps will, in the near term, field an Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV) in order to provide protected mobility for our infantry units throughout the varied terrain mixes in the littorals. As its name makes clear, the ACV will be amphibious; it will, however, normally rely on surface connectors to conduct the preponderance of its ship-to-shore movement.
In a longer term effort conducted in concert with the Navy, the Marine Corps will continue to explore capabilities that better enable it to conduct high-speed, extended range surface littoral maneuver from ship-to-objective in order to fully replace its legacy AAVs that were first fielded in 1972.

I remember rolling past LAV's stuck in the mud in our AAVP7A1's. We had no problem but we had tracks. Makes me reserved that this ACV will be able to perform in swampy environments.

The Stryker is the Army's version of the USMC LAV-25.
LAVs have been kicking ass for the Corps since 1983!

I remember maybe two years ago when the Marine Corps was looking at the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle. That think could go fucking fast, damn. 25 MPH in the water and 45 MPH on the land, up to 3x faster than that of the AAV.
The canceled that program for some reason, however, even though it would have lead the way for amphibious assault with it's higher speed and 30mm cannon.
While being an awesome vehicle, it had issues transitioning from water mode to land mode on the fly. I was at Pendleton (Camp Del Mar) when they had the AAAVs there for testing, and at Camp Lejeune where I was an 1833 (AAV Crewchief).

Yeah. We would have had a leg up on the near peer adversaries they are now wanting us to plan for. We were 20 years ahead of everybody else 🤦♂️🙄🤷♂️

so which USMC prefer ? saic terrex 2 or BAE system ?
If the 2 front wheels on the left or right side are blown off how are you going to steer it out of the KILL BOX..?
Same issue the LAV series vehicles have.
The front 4 wheels are used for turning. If all four happen to get blown off, I think steering is the least of their problems.

Is the increased ride height to counter IEDs not going to make them an easier target in a conventional war? Is the marine focus now more on Asymmetric warfare?
Can you fit 24 Marines and a mk19 and m2 browing and survive sea state 5 I dont think so....so no keep the AAVs...in my opinion. also the lcac is unarmed if I'm correct.

whats wrong with good ol' LAV ?? and the hovercraft things are fine, they can carry heaps of fucking cargo at high speeds, i doubt any of thing else can do it better
For one they have been in service since the 80's. They are horrible gas guzzlers, are loud, and are relatively weak in armor protection. I think the Marines need an improved vehicle desperately since the EFV was cancelled.
With the new up-armor packages being put on LAV's, they are no longer able to do swims or anything amphib, too much weight. They are up to like 19 tons now.
DarthXavius not true. generally pushing 12-14 tons, they are still amphibious. can cross rivers, lakes, streams, dominate a lot of terrain.
kingmigget Well, I'm in 4th LAR and let me tell you, LAV's get stuck in light mud all the damn time, they are between 12 and 14 tons (depending on variant such as LAV-M, LAV-AT, LAV-C2, LAV-L, LAV-R, LAV-25, etc...) without the new armor packages and fully unloaded. But when combat loaded, with the new armor, they push between 17 and 19 tons. I would refuse to ride in one in any amphib op.
But all it is, is a Taxi, and not even an armed taxi like the AAV, Ok the AAV is slow in the water, and shoot an RPG at it and your going to have a bad day, but I'll stick with the AAV-P7/A1. YATYAS
Its still in development, they will put weapons on it when it's time to come out, right now they are making sure the actual platform is in good order.

This is junk. We should have gotten the efv. 🤬. Now they have shifted to preparing for near peer adversaries and the efv was already made for it.
