If you get back to Walla Walla, you should really try some of the lesser known wineries that are producing excellent wines at very attractive price points - 5 Star, Golden Ridge, Gifford Hirlinger, Dunham Cellars, L'Ecole 41, Dumas Station and El Corazon, to name a few.
Great video! I live in Woodinville and visited Walla Walla back in March. The stoundouts for me were Long Shadows, Abeja, Figgins, and Woodward canyon. When I visit again definitely trying to get a tasting at Doubleback.
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed the video! Highly recommend a visit! Yes, Leonetti is excellent! Unfortunately that is another producer from the area that is not interested in visitors, so I was not able to visit.
Thanks very much! Very glad to hear that. Completely agree with you! I discovered another excellent wine (for only $29!) that I'll be mentioning in my video tomorrow! Hope you enjoy the holiday weekend. Cheers!
I have so many takeaways from this excellent Walla Walla video. For starters, I love how comprehensive and detailed it is. You didn’t just give a simple overview or general directions; you walked us through, walked with us even - you held our hands, so to speak. I can tell that a lot of thought and consideration went into making this video. And it it’s such a worthwhile delight watching this and learning so much. Also, I love what learned from it - the climate, the 95% production of red wine vs 5% white (Did I hear this right? Well, this my kind of wine region!😁), the manageable driving distance and time between wineries (another plus point for this region!), the recommended wineries and wines complete with beautiful photos and footages, the must-know information about each winery including tasting prices and inclusions - so much information and all very helpful, reliable, and excellently presented. Such an impressive wine region, and such an impressive video! You’re the best, John! Santé!
Thanks very much Margaux! Yes only 5% white! Your kind of region! So glad you enjoyed the video! This is a very underrated region with lots of outstanding wines! Hope you can taste more! Cheers!
@@AttorneySomm You’re most welcome, John! I’ll definitely be prioritizing this region, should I get the chance to be in the area. And your video/posts will be my guide.😊
Leonetti/ Figgins , L’Ecole/ Woodward Canyon are definitely must-adds. Highly recommend Force Majeure in the Rocks District and I really like Dunham Cellars as well. I will always have a special place in my Heart for A’Maurice, wish it was still there…Solid list 🍷
Thanks very much! Tried a Dunham in a restaurant and enjoyed it. Had just two days so covered as much ground as I could. Hopefully I'll be able to visit again before too long. Cheers!
Some great wineries highlighted. If you happen to come back to Walla Walla would recommend: GÅrd Vintners, Woodward Canyon, L'Ecole, and Charles Smith/K Vintners.
Thank you for bringing attention to wines of eastern WA and Walla Walla! We may not be Napa or Bordeaux, and that's okay, we are proud of who we are and the wines we produce. Would love to have you tour the Lewis-Clark AVA of WA-ID.
Thanks very much! Have a number of videos like that already. At least two with Napa recommendations, a Rioja and Priorat video for Spain and Chianti Classico, Barolo, Brunello and Italian white wines for Italy. All should be on the front page of my channel under the headings for Italian videos, Spanish videos and Napa videos. Cheers!
I really appreciate the well made service of the region, as I plan to one day go there ! The cab from there , and also from Red Montain , are always good value if you compare with the same quality of other American cabs that are more “famous”. Cheers !
Great tips, thank you! We are headed to Walla Walla from NY at the end of February. Several of the wineries you recommended were also recommended by a friend of ours who is a wine educator for Winebow. I look forward to catching up on your other videos.
Well done video. We just got back from a trip to Washington and visited several wineries in the Tri-Cities area. Really enjoyed the layed back experience and the excellent and affordable wines, tastings, and food. Also met some really nice people. Will hit Walla Walla next time. Definitely did not realize how dry and hot the area can get!
Thanks very much! Very glad you enjoyed it. Definitely some very nice people in Washington! It does get very hot and dry, but the cooling nights are very helpful both for winemaking and for being comfortable when visiting in the summer. Cheers!
Hard to get Washington wines here. Not a lot of distribution. One oh these days I’m going to get out to that whole region, there, Willamette, Okanogan…. Great information and as always great video.
Excellent video! This is so helpful. We dont get a lot of Walla Walla wines distributed here in my state unfortunately. How is the food scene in Walla Walla?
Thanks! Yes, I visited them about 10 years ago. I enjoyed that visit and still have some of the wines left, but definitely prefer the wines from the Cayuse trio (which are admittedly much more costly). I did reach out to Rotie to visit again this time to try to visit again, but they never responded to my emails.
@@AttorneySomm Out of curiosity have you tried Delmas? We toured their SJR vineyard last year and bought a couple bottles of the '18 Syrah from JJB, but haven't opened them yet.
Loved your video, as always. Gave me some ideas for a future trip and some upcoming wine buys. Do you have a top 3 of wines from this trip? Just curious!
Thank you! Definitely enjoyed the 2014 Columbia Valley Cab from Abeja and the 20 Doubleback Cab. I also visited Horse Heaven Hills and enjoyed the Trothe Cab S and they have a stellar Sauvignon Blanc.
If you are planning a trip to the Willamette Valley, please watch this video: th-cam.com/video/CeUcz-7p8BE/w-d-xo.html

Mike Dunham was my uncle and they are worth a try for sure
@@mjdaniel8710 Thank you! They are definitely on my list for next time.
World class onions!!! Anyone who has had walla walla onions will agree.

The world of wines is huge, full of nice surprises, and you have the pleasure to unravel and open our eyes. 😊

Truly great reagon. Loved the Northstar merlot to
Thank you! Yes, that one is a very enjoyable wine and a compelling value!
I’m a big fan of wines from this area. My favorite is Leonetti. Hoping to get to the region some day :)

Nicee I gotta make it out there sooner rather than later. I’m a big fan of Sleight of Hand and Long Shadows as well.
Thank you! Hope that you enjoy your visit as much as I did! And glad you concur re Long Shadows & Sleight of Hand. 👍🍷
I Couldn’t agree more with your picks! I feel lucky to live in a state with such great wines.

Have you tried Rotie? That's been my favorite of the 7 or so we've visited so far. I'll have to check out some of these next month though.
