Attack on Titan is a rather strange series, not only because of the concept of living in walls for fear of the Titans, or because it touches on World War II themes, but because sometimes you have that feeling that nobody is good and nobody is bad , each one interprets it in their own way, and that represents a bit of real life... In my opinion, Attack on Titan is a very complex series, and one of the best I've seen...
Absolutely true.. I watched this series when it first came out. So waiting for each episode was so long.. season after season the pace felt slow. I was still very much enjoying it. But now that the last season is going to come, I decided to binge rewatch it. And woww it hits so much harder when you watch all the episodes in succession.. I can't get it out of my head. The characters, the brutal world, everything about this series is just a tier above everything else.
I would argue it's a horrid mix of the Russo-Japanese war of 1904-1905 and WW2. It's got the "previously isolated technologically backward island going agaist the mainland giant" that really fits the Russo-Japanese war. And then it has the resource driven, existential "now or never" & genocidal aspects of WW2.
This my favorite outro. The melancholic vocals mixed with the images that flash by that let you know that AOT isn't just about the action, but about emotions and the devastating consequences of war and hatred.
