I remember Ponderosa steak house. Had one in my hometown but i was to young to eat there. Used to love seeing the building though driving by with my parents. They were closed down by the time i was eating steak. Always wondered if it was any good. Love the tv show Bonanza too.
The latter was the namesake for SCTV News' Floyd Robertson (Joe Flaherty), though by some accounts, Flaherty based Floyd's persona and mannerisms as anchor after the dean of Pittsburgh TV news anchors, Bill Burns.
Thanks for posting. Mortgage interest rates at 15.25%. The worst was still to come. The Recession and much higher interest rates were coming beginning in 1981.
I miss Ponderosa soooo much. My great grandparents would take us to the one in North Bay, in the Fannies plaza.." whats Fannies?😮" lmao. Young me was a cheap date and loved the salsbury steak. So much that I thought it was a real cut, so ended up looking dumb ordering it at other restaurants. Just like all restaurants didnt have a shirley temple, BUT Its ok I knew how to make one! I must have been like dumber Young Sheldon.
The dollar, having a bad day at .84 cents. Sigh. As for Cecilia Walters (reporter in the Vancouver real estate story) she went on to anchor the news at CBC British Columbia, alongside Bill Good Jr.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. In the end, it's all about speculation, when the country gets turned into a big casino then you have problems.
Wasn't always the good old days to be sure...The news items included a police officer shot: he was Michael Sweet. It happened at George's Bourbon Street Bar on Queen St. A horrible story. He attended a robbery at the bar, was shot gunned by junkie robbers and bled to death while they held him hostage despite his pleas. At the time, I lived around the corner part-time with my mom at Village by the Grange on McCaul as a 12 year old. Naturally, post-1960s Canadian justice was too lenient with the scum who did it.
R.I.P. President Jimmy Carter. Your Humanitarian Efforts were applaudable.
I remember that plane crash it was a lot IL 62 Ukrainian plane that crashed killing also a famous polish jazz performer Anna Juntar
YES AMEN!
He was a terrible President. He held no humanitarian ideals for Israelis or the American hostages in Iran. 444 days in captivity. REMEMBER THAT.
Lloyd Robertson...he was awesome. I can't even imagine how many times I watched him on the news.
You don't want to even imagine how many times he's watched you 😮
Lloyd Robertson is still alive! This broadcast was 45 years ago!
Robertson outlasted Canadian broadcast news.
He turns 91 on January 19th
This may come as a shock, but people do live longer than 45 years.

Old enough to remember how awesome Ponderosa was!

I'm in the US and visited relatives in Toronto before Christmas, I think the dollar was about .72! (great buying power for ME)
$3.09?! ,😂
You can't even get a can of pop for that today. 😭
Where do you buy pop?
