I actually looked up the word and it is spelled both ways. So both pronunciations are correct depending on where you are from.

@Aditya Ram - Actually, the "mind palace" technique (aka the "method of loci") is real, not just made up for the "Sherlock" series. Once Upon a Time and Hawaii Five-0 there are many former Lost actors, and they never make puns about it (ok, Hawaii Five-0 did it once and did they about Heroes as well, but they've had many opportunities for that, and the two times they did do it it was out of place and lame).

The first person who predicted its existence was a Brit Humphrey Davy in 1807 , "arguing that "alum" was the salt of an unknown metal which he said should be called ‘alumium’"(not aluminum) But he didn't discover it, he merely predicted its existence, and proposed a name, didn't name it. And Brits also call it aluminium.
The person who produced it, and named it called it aluminium. Entire world calls it aluminium, with exception of Muricans, who simply have to be special snowflakes. (Don't even get me started on soccer.)
So no, the person who discovered it didn't name it aluminum.

Sir Davy originally named it "alumium" in 1808 (likely a mistake on his part), later changing it to "aluminum". The name was again changed at a later date to "aluminium" in order to conform to the "-ium" suffix at the end of most other known elements of the time. The original name may have been aluminum but it has been changed to aluminium thereby making "aluminium" the correct spelling and leaving "aluminum" as out-dated (yet still used by a minority of countries).

There's no "scientifically correct" way to pronounce Al. It was aluminum before it was referred to as aluminium, and alumium before either of those. Both spellings are accepted.

angle wood Typically US Seasons are produced yearly with 20+ episodes per season. However Sherlock produces 3 1.5 hour episodes every 2 years, much longer gap between seasons. I really like the show but it is hard waiting that long :)

Ah yes, but since we spell it aluminum in the States it makes sense for us to pronounce it as such.
