Man, horror movies at the drive-in were the shit. I saw films such as Carrie, Burnt Offerings, Tentacles, The House That Dripped Blood and The Sentinel there. At the snack bar I would get either a dog with mustard or greasy, salty fries served in a container like a drink cup and an orange soda with crushed ice. But only if mom and dad were financially accommodating and hadn't brought munchies from home. Thanks for this doc. It brought back good memories to this old chunk of coal.

Bravo!...a lot of fun, entertaining sci fi / horror movies. I grew up in the 1970s & 1980s watching these "Atomic Age' gems in re-runs (of course). They are the foundation of the genre.

Cheaply made program. But seeing the film clips made up for it. My all-time favs of that era were Them! and The Thing from Another World. The Day the Earth Stood Still, Forbidden Planet, War of the Worlds, and This Island Earth were not cheaply made creature films, they are classics I rewatch decades later over and over. Thanks for the documentary.

@10:27 Didn't the guy on the left play Nils Barris in Star Trek's "The Trouble with Tribbles"? And wasn't he also in The Patty Duke Show? I'm so rubbish with actor's names...

The horror for me, now--age 76--is seeing all those hotties, looking so old, doing those interviews in 2009!...Then I look in the mirror, and am horrified once again!. By the time most of us have taken our youthful good looks for granted, the game is over...WHY?

The original starwars preview was recently found in Illinois. TH-cam. I saw it the summer before it came out in the theaters. It did not have the John Williams score. Just a haunting Erie mordern music track. It gave off a breathtaking felling of wonder along with the visuals. That can not compare to any thing before and after especially if you saw that as a kid

The other problem with the McCarthy era was aside from the pink scare. There was white flight and the very one sided utilization of the G I billy which lead to red lining and also the taking of black owned land trough unapologetic eminent domain. The very creation and existence of the suburbs is a testament to that. The giant and invasion of insects is also a metaphor for blacks coming for the south to big cities in the north. Something that never gets mentioned. Because the McCarthy era mostly effected white people.

MccCarthy. Senator Joe McCarthy. The Senate tired of his witch hunt, voted to censure Senator McCarthy by a vote of 67-22. He died of Hepatitis at age 48. Some say he died of alcoholism. He may have been a wacko that caused the suicide of many for destroying their careers, but McCarthy was a WW2 Marine where he was an intelligence officer stationed in the Solomon Islands though never served in combat.

Fairy tales fables creation myth tall tales
All are cautionary tales and instruction manuals.
Beauty and the beast is a field guide to arranged marriages.
The changing baby was a rationalization of the problem with sickly children dying constantly. We’re wolf myth was a. Rationalization of serial killers. This same thing is happening in media. Godzilla being a catharsis for a people under the wing of the us and not being to express there feelings under sort of marshal law. All of that completely ignored in the translation of godzilla to godzilla king of the monsters. It’s the film version of gaslighting.
