The "Trust" was developed by "both" Jock "and" Miss Ellie for "their" children. "Their" children are J.R Ewing., Gary Ewing, and Bobby Ewing. Ray "Krebbs" is the child of "only" Jock, not Miss Ellie. Ray ended up with 25% of the Trust fund for "their" children. Miss Ellie would have been much happier if Jock had arranged it so Ray ended up with only 12.5% of the Trust fund, because only half his blood is from a "Ewing."
🤠 I came across this channel this morning for the first time...been watching all day! It’s so different a perspective, from being young like Lucy when it aired, to now being older than most of the characters, LOL! Thanks for safekeeping this series all these years! I just remembered going to our local clubs, one with a larger than life painting of JRs face on front of the building and called JRs, of course, and the smaller one next door called SueEllens. The proverbial good ol days...
I love the Takapa scene where Miss Ellie announces they've stopped Takapa development. Jock then says he is Takapa and storms out. SueEllen's snarky comment to Donna, "Here's to you Donna. Welcome to the Ewing family."... one of my favorite scenes.
Ellie has a right to be ticked about Jock not bothering to at least let her know about his plans regarding Ray and the trust fund. Also, sad to see Jim Davis so clearly ill here. I've always wondered how this storyline would have been resolved if they hadn't had to wrap it up prematurely due to Davis's health problems.
Kenny Holeater - The sons made a big deal of the money Jock left them ($10 million to each son), but the biggest gift was the shares of Ewing Oil he left them and Ellie. When forcibly sold in 1987, the company was valued at $2 billion. Ray, Ellie & Gary each received 10% ownership, and each had $200 million in stock. JR & Bobby’s shares were worth more than half a billion dollars. Thanks to JR’s shenanigans with BD Calhoun, one third of the funds from the sale of Ewing Oil went towards fines, but each Ewing came away with fortunes.
Susan Howard was very much in the shadow of some of the Dallas women but she was naturally a very beautiful lady. I seem to recall her starring in a tv show called “Petrocelli”
Ray was just as much a son then anyone of em. Plus I think a conversation with Miss Ellie would've served only as a formality. It wasnt gonna be "Can I do this?" It was gonna be "I'm gonna do this"
Although it wasn't Jock's day in this episode, because of 2 separate things: 1) Between him & JR using people up and throwing away, esp. members of their own family & 2) Jock added Ray's name in the trust fund, without talking about it in front of Miss Ellie, first, but it was Jim Davis who was sick, in real-life, and died, weeks after.
I get where both of them are coming from here. Ray is as much Jock's son as J.R., Gary and Bobby and Jock felt that he rightfully deserved to share that trust fund along with them. Jock was a man's man of his time and didn't think he had to talk it over with anyone about exercising his parental right in looking after his son. Ellie was upset because Jock gave _his_ illegitimate son part of the trust fund that was set up for _their_ sons without even consulting with her about it. Ellie showed signs that she was already ticked off that Jock cared about his son that was born of an extra marital affair so much and clearly felt it was like rubbing her nose in his indiscretion. Regardless of what she said, no mother would be happy about her husband giving part of her children's inheritance to his love child . The "You didn't even talk to me about this !" was mostly her good and understandable outlet for her anger and resentment with Jock about Ray.
It was Jock's money and he could do whatever the hell he wanted. Technically speaking he didn't need Ellie's permission because after all Ray was his son too
Jock was single minded. Once he made up his mind, nothing would move him and since he built Ewing Oil and was the unquestioned head of the family, he felt that he had the right to make decisions without consultation and without considering how those decisions would affect his family. They would just have to deal with it.
Sadly, Jim was on his downward spiral. He was still able to get around well and the voice was still the strong, powerful growl, but I think he's wearing a rug and his face was starting to swell
In the early scene of this video, when Jock is reading a newspaper: How can he lounge around comfortably in his own house when dressed up with a coat and tie?
Yep fraid so, it's pretty obvious he's wearing a wig at this stage so he must have been in the midst of chemo sessions. It's sad that the show lost him so soon into it's tenure.. it was never quite the same afterwards.
How did they manage to make a woman as beautiful as Victoria Principal look so awful - overly heavy makeup and poodle perm. She looked best her first couple of years on the series, with longer hair and lighter makeup.
you noticed she didn't keep that hairdo long. I think like 3 episodes before she changed it back. I remember she got blasted by fans saying she has a poodle on top of her head.
Jock thought that he was doing the honorable thing. At this time, I think that she was angry that Jock put Ray's Interest ahead of Gary. Yet Gary didn't put in a Fraction of work that Ray did. In future years there was a Long Lost Child who didn't grow up with the Perks of being part of a Powerful Family but they were happy. For example on Guiding Light Nicholas Augustino Aitoro aka Gus A Lawyer and Detective found out he was a Spaulding he was shocked but he moved on with his life. He didn't grow up with Boarding School, MBA Educational Program etc but he still was happy with his lot.
This story line never made any sense to me. First off, Jock changing the trust for his sons didn't affect Ellie's financial well being in the slightest. And it's not like JR and Bobby were going to be reduced to paupers by having it split from halves to thirds. JR and Bobby were still going to inherit more money than they could blow in a hundred lifetimes. We should all have "problems" like that.
It wasn't about the money. It was the fact that he did it without consulting with her first. Marriage isn't the place to make "executive decisions" like that. Ray was jock's son. He had every right to give cut Ray in. It was actually Larry's idea to make Ray the fourth son.
That was a story line that was pitched by Larry Hagman to Steve Kanaly
MrCraigblaze Steve complained he had very few storylines, & that's how Larry got the fourth son concept. Steve was underused in the first few seasons

Bobby with solar energy company? Wow well ahead of time..
Not really. Solar power was around as far back as the 1970s.
Except he never winterized the solar so it failed in the Winter
Wouldn't that have been in competition to oil and therefore something Bobby wouldn't want to go into?
So Miss Ellie mentioned Bobby and JR, no mention of Gary 😯
EVELYN JACKSON - even Miss Ellie realized Gary was irrelevant, even though he was supposedly her favorite.
Gary was not a great part of the show.
@@redletter2008 Miss Ellie told it once as to how Gary is or was not to been strong minded for a man.
