Above all, he comes across as a person of deep concern for India, and her citizens. I wish that these arguments of P. Chidambaram in the Supreme Court are translated into different languages in India, so that the people understand what the demonitisation has done to the people of India, as well as the truth and the lies behind its sudden implementation.
He is a trained lawyer and never went to Oxford rather he did MBA from Harvard, I don't know why people say he is an economist. He is not an economist, he puts valid points which should be answered by the Government.

I am no fan of Chidambaram, but I think their ought to be records of meetings and decisions, which may be made available to the courts for deciding whether the law was followed or not. In this sense Chidambaram pointing out the absence of such records is valid. It is also needs to be understood that most of the time the RBI governors are not qualified in finance and economic matters except limited working experience in govt departments. Eventhough the administrative system was gifted to us by the British, after 1983 only economists are being appointed as governors in UK. However we do not have policy in this regard. Our policy is that no specialization in govt departments and generalist civil service officers can handle any subjects under the sun This was the policy of British when they introduced the aministrative system 250 years ago

Mr. Chifambaram's argument legally is valid, no doubt. But demonetisation was done with the intention of taking out black money and terror funds. The intention was excellent but the execution was pathetic. Arguing now in the SC is like whipping a dead horse. We suffered and hope the government learnt its lessons. Perhaps what would have worked would be keeping the highest denomination at 100. No 500, no 2000. And make more 10 and 5 rupee coins.

Mr. Chifambaram's argument legally is valid, no doubt. But demonetisation was done with the intention of taking out black money and terror funds. The intention was excellent but the execution was pathetic. Arguing now in the SC is like whipping a dead horse. We suffered and hope the government learnt its lessons.
Perhaps what would have worked would be keeping the highest denomination at 100. No 500, no 2000. And make more 10 and 5 rupee coins.

I wonder whether the Court has a role in this decision or for that matter in economic policy decision. All this should be for the Parliament to decide.
