I love how comfortable he was with his sexuality, and I think it’s also an example for us to “loosen up” if you will. It’s okay to let yourself be free, and unbutton one more button on your blouse, and it’s okay for a woman to have short hair, or a man to have long hair, etc. He broke gender walls with his sexual liberation, and I applaud him for it. He’s still an inspiration to so many today, this being one of many reasons. Prince wasn’t too sexual for the world. The world wasn’t sexual enough for Prince ✌🏻💜
Sex is a part of life. I love the sexually charged stuff. But I also love how his lyrics grew and became more mature and it started to be about love instead of sex. I don't care what anyone says, he's the greatest ever.
I was nervous listening to Prince as a kid because of the overt sexuality. I got in trouble for singing "Jack U Off" at the dinner table. I didn't know what that meant. It was kind of funny. He was too sexual for my parents and they disapproved. They disallowed me from putting a Lovesexy poster up in my bedroom. Later when he was sexual on songs like "Tick Tick Bang" those just seemed out of place. Songs like "Scarlet Pussy" and "It" played with sexuality in an almost childish way. Ultimately I adore his sexual expression. Growing up gay it really helped me sort out my confusion and shame over sexual feelings. I would be really screwed up if it hadn't been for Prince. Great video topic and thank you. I can't wait until you have the new Community option. Thanks for all you do.
When I was first getting into Prince, I thought he was very sexual and all his songs were sex, sex, sex. But when I watched interviews of him later on and listened to the actual lyrics and not the song, he even said himself " my songs aren't about sex" but about the beauty, and intimacy two people have for one another. Call me a bad sister if you want, but I show my 10 year old brother some of the dirty songs and I tell him " it's not how it sounds" because it's really not! He had a very big appreciation for women in my opinion and yeah, even though it seems like he liked sex 😂 there was more to it than that, you just have to find it 💜
Thank U, Prince's Friend, for this excellent video. As a closet Prince fan myself since 1984, I squarely put the blame on my church folks for cautioning me not to listen to this great man of Minneapolis Rock because he was a pervert and he always sang songs about "Sex". If they listen to his musicology, they would understand that Prince was far more than just a sexual "horny toad". He was also a spiritual man who made songs such as "I Would Die 4 U", "7", "The Cross" and "Still Would Stand All Time" before he became a Jehovah's Witness in the millennium. Thank God I listen to Prince every day and night because he cheers me up and makes me cry.
"Prince was too sexual" So is every female rapper of this decade except they try too hard by thinking that acting like an awful caricature of a Barbie doll, shaking their plastic asses, and having disgusting not-so-subtle metaphors for sex and all that stuff is cool, but everyone fawns for these kinds of people. Even the Talentless male artists are tryhards too and then their unfortunate lyrical talent made them misogynistic and lazy. Still, every idiot love that. Prince should've been proud of his sexuality anyway. Him being "too sexual" or "raunchy" is what made me fell in love with him and Tipper Gore was petty because Prince was too sexy for us. Being closed minded isn't sexy.
People who think Prince is too sexual don't know the full extent of this man's work. For instance the songs Adore, Somewhere Here on Earth, The One, Te Amo Corazon, Somebody's Somebody, and Damn You are a few of my favorite songs that no one would consider too sexual. He has a vast body of work so there is much to choose from if you don't like very sexual music. Unfortunately, anyone having that bias will be destined to miss out on knowing about one of the greatest talents that ever existed during our times. This includes his surreal musicianship, command of various genres, museum worthy fashion, beautiful photographs, and unparalleled live stage and video performances that you can now see online.
Hehehe love this topic. Prince made us look through our fingers checking him out 🙈 He got me hooked from Wanna B Ur Lover. The yearning burning in his eyes drew me in deeper and deeper. He used his audience over the years to try out how far he could go and they never stopped him. Look at Art Official Age album to me that is super super sexy. Not Purple Rain at all for me. Have never owned the album in fact I avoided all the Purple Rain hoopla at the time and focused on MJ. Came back to Prince with SOTT. It hurts that people still think of him as freaky then I show them videos like What If God Was One of Us and they are blown away. They all say 'Wow he's good'. Prince hypersexual? Heck YES, even when he wasn't trying. That's his power 💜
Prince was a breath of fresh air for me because everybody else’s singing about “love” all the time just bored me to death. LOL.. jk... Well, not really. 😈 People like what they like and maybe his sexy songs were too sexy for women who preferred songs of romance and his grunts and squeals and moans were too much for men to enjoy without feeling uncomfortable or teased by their guy friends. Prince was a constant in my house growing up since my mom was a huge fan, so I was used to his music and never had a problem with his lyrics. And I have not come across an artist yet that moves me like he does. 💜
t Shockadelica I was glad Prince did his music that... like there were ways to get around the rules. Still listen to Prince music. it's just music. True if it was not about sex I didn't want to hear it. Be cause he is black people man that why he got stuck with it.parent advise stick er......like boooo.
Actually, Prince’s sexuality and sexually adventurous work is a reason I really love him. As a child, I LOVED Michael Jackson. He work was/is sweet and childlike in a way that appealed to me as a child. Now, as a woman, PRINCE appeals to me much more than MJ does. His songs celebrate women’s sexuality and pleasure, not shying away from women being sexual beings too. I can understand too that his work later on wasn’t as blatantly sexual, but was very sensual. I wonder too if he grew tired of being labeled and wanted to be seen as something more than a symbol of sex. Also, much of his writing is so deep and meaningful, he was certainly the kind of double meanings and play on words!
So funny when i think back i was terrified after listening to my first album bought by parents for me - 1999 (i was 12/13) i guess that sticker didnt stop my parents that was an early clue i guess- listening in the living room next to them i quickly plugged in my headphones and went very red - but oh how much I enjoyed those hours! I needn’t have worried my parents became massive prince fans! Ive been to concerts with them and they loved his confidence and saw the music more than his ‘naughtiness’ haha - how strange i had no idea until my dad ‘borrowed’ my ‘rude boy’ tape I made in the late 80’s im sure you can imagine what songs i had selected there - but luckily he just came back telling me he loved Prince and totally got my obsession!! Cool eh?
My favorite Prince album is _Dirty Mind_ . The DM era is my favorite Prince era. I love this time in his career *because* he was "overtly sexual" and because this is when I came of age. I wasn't quite ready for the stuff he sang about but it had me shook anyway. 😄💕
Love the video. I don’t think people didn’t like because his music was sexual but the type of sexual his music displayed. Prince in his music when it came to sex rarely showed him as being the aggressor. Which didn’t fit the whole black straight male masculinity box people wanted to put him in. Prince was brave enough not to let people put him in a box which was what made him so great.
I always found it funny back in the 80s that Darling Nikki and Purple Rain album got so much attention when another huge Prince album, 1999, was 1000x dirtier with simulated sex sounds, F-bombs, album art with drawings of vaginas and penises, etc. No “parental advisory” sticker, no outcry. The PMRC never had any credibility as a result. The filthy 15 list is a joke now considering what pop artists today release.
Prince had talent, but he knew that talent alone is no guarantee of kind of megastar success he wanted. He knew that sex, controversy, intrigue, and shock would sell, along with other things he employed to market himself and his bands. He knew that sex would definitely bring him fans. He appeared to be in conflict as reflected in the spirituality that was so incongruously appearing in his music and eventually he became somewhat even more evangelical while at the same time giving fans some of what he knew they still wanted to hear. You have to dig very deep to try to understand Prince. Seventh Day Adventist teachings from his childhood influenced much of his spiritual thought and this permeates through a lot of his music. I also think darker forces influenced him and he was trying to reconcile the spiritual with the profane. Later when he became more serious about his spirituality, he joined the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Wow! Amazing video! Really enjoyed this! It’s sad that he kind of got branded as a “sex maniac” in the 80s and sometimes even still to this day. I think it distracts people from how amazing he is, because they just see him as too dirty all the time. For me, when became a fan, he sort of desensitised me to a lot and made me see that it’s not something to be ashamed of and that it’s a natural thing. So I’m kind of glad that he did it like that in a way. Great video!
Ashley White totally how it was for me ! Totally desensitised me to what was all around me at that age - it frightened me so much! But he made it ok and ‘normal’ as you say so well !! I was very young and terribly shy and withdrawn but as you can imagine i was awoken by his words, sexuality, emotions, honesty, romance, liberalism, non-judgemental-ism - he was just an education into the world i lived in (1980s) and was so frightened of and how i was growing up and being afraid of what all that entailed. I can honestly say it helped me accept myself and everyone around without judging or being afraid. This is obviously not even touching on his musicality as such just his words really.
Vikki Waiting Agreed! Yes, that’s amazing! I wasn’t alive back then, but I can imagine. He was amazing at doing that. He seemed to deliberately tackle the taboo or controversial topics and he made them so much more simple.
Weirdly never found him sexual just loved to dance to him and i was whatever re lyrics .. now az hes evolved ( and us maybe) i realised where he was heading , shock factor to get a message through to the masses . Spiritual and sensual and political and other wordly . Cat talks about it from memory🙏🕊
I felt most of his early works was to put him out in front from so many other artists. Prince pushed the envelope so far, that now, there really isnt anything left to sing about thats new. 40 years later we are still talking about Prince's sexual side mostly. Not Madonna or any other. Great marketing tool.
For me Prince was openmineded. I am from Amsterdam and here we are not too scared about sex and drugs.and i am 53 years old understand the lyrics i think it was great to listen to something else.free your mind and he did so much more than Darling Nikki.I will always love his music. I also a big MJ fan but Prince triggerd me on a whole other level.
bianca dongen. Yup Mike was cool & I enjoyed his music in his own lane. Prince on the other hand , was truly in a class all by his-self his level was more a sexy and grown ass man that triggered some deep sexual emotions & straight up bumping & grinding to think about. #BothEquallyGreatArtistSingingAboutTwoDifferentThangs.
I agree his earlier albums leading up to purple rain involved a lot of sexual songs but from around the world in a day his songs were less sexual. I think that if parents think that certain songs are too sexual then I can see why they don't want their kids to listen and I can see why they wanted parental advisory on albums. Prince shouldn't just be known for sexual songs. His music was very creative. Not all of his songs are about sex.
When I was growing up, and I heard a Prince song on the radio that sexually oriented, I would not listen to it. But I always liked Prince . So I would pick and choose which songs I would listen to. That was all that was needed with PURPLE RAIN. Nobody can make you listen to it. It was wrong for them to put this label on him. Like you said, most his songs are not like that. His music got better (to my opinion) over the years. He was DEEP!!! Way ahead of his time.
I almost ripped a guys head off in a bar once .. He told me Mike was the best and Prince was just one of the others 😎. They had to separate us. His mic was on. There's Only I Prince
James Brown said masturbation at least 5 times in Body Heat, why didn't he get slammed for it. George Clinton or Bootsie Collins didn't get slammed for their songs either
I think that while his early music was overtly sexual, he wS looking for a gimmick that would get him noticed. However, his indiscriminate sexual behavior with extremely young women rhroughout his life was of greater concern. I loved his music and appreciated his philanthropy when it became public, but sleeping with over a thousand women as disclosed by one of his PR era managers was very disheartening. This beautiful, incredibly talented man was more broken than we knew.
Yes, I remember as a child, Prince song titles had words in them that no one around me wanted anything to do with. I really got to know more about him after he passed and become a fan.
The sexual "thing" was what originally got me into Prince. It was so liberating to hear songs about sex and not being embarrassed or ashamed about it. I heard Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing long B4 I heard "Darling Nikki", I also both heard and saw "Relax" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood (released at the same time as "Purple Rain") and no one took notice of those.. Why? Even when I was a little kid "Dr. Hook" performed naked on stage and photos were in the newspapers. Take about double standards! BTW; Lovesexy is still one of my top 10 favorite albums of all time and the tour was the best gig ever. Not even Pink Floyd or David Bowie could top the outfits, background video and lights effects. Fun fact: Both Prince and David Bowie wanted Cat as back-up singer and dancer at the same time. Bowie was touring "Glass Spider" and Prince "Sign "O" the Times"
Back in the day in the '80s, of course, didn't mind it and liked it. However years after I didn't care for it, but my choice. I particularly, at times, thought when he mixed sex and religion is hypocritical, which I'm sure was purposeful, but might have had a point/a meaning to it. Also, yeah, it is for entertainment, so to each their own.
Prince was the perfect complete package, for women, as “the ULTIMATE male because he oozed sexuality! He was so physically attractive + his massive ego + confidence added to his attractive qualities because a lot of his song lyrics were like foreplay. Every female at the concert was made to feel that he was singing to them. The wild music was a turn on + his dance moves along with his rapport with the ladies- at a concert in New York in 1981 he asks “are you wet yet”??? I’d describe his concerts as him flirting with the female audience from the stage + turning them on with a combination of music, lyrics, + being sexual with the microphone + it’s stand- rolling around on the floor...!!! Ha....I hope I’m not the only female that feels this way. He always had a new girl friend that became his girlfriend but so many found out they weren’t special anymore by seeing him with a new love. Even that made him fit the image women wanted. A guy who had everything + could be a bit conceited- but was extra nice to them- until another caught his eye. I hope he is at peace + with God.
That's what was so intriguing about Prince's that he sang about common issues in life in an appealing way sex religion relationships partying adolescence he understood The Human Experience
That hits different when I am a child😅 Prince was amazing, I really don't get why some people don't like him because of that. There is not a bad thing.
When Prince started releasing music, like the cut, Soft and Wet in 1978 it was only the beginning of the the freak funk movement, anyone who listen and followed Prince was considered wild by society, there was those Prince friends who did not care about being wild and freaky and we proclaimed it and still proclaim this today. this comment is out there, this was an movement, then 1979, there was Sexy Dancer , I Wanna Be Your Lover, Dancing Close And Slow, Bambi, it was on wild and freaky movement was official created Prince next the Dirty Mind album, it was on there was Dirty Mind, Uptown, Party Up, the whole album was freaky, with The cut called Head,,, this was the freak cut forever driving the square society out of their mind, us Prince friends did not care or even think about them, we just kept on being wild and freaky then came 1999 it really got wild and freaky at house parties DMSR cut was the main cut , we played it everywhere as with Prince music released before then Purple Rain Prince did something different we loved it, but Erotic City came out Prince remembered the wild and freak movement, he started this was underground music so Prince was kept his underground friends and got new friends, then through out the 80,s it was like that have just about all of the underground cuts from the 80,s ,then the 90,s Prince bought his underground music upfront the 90,s Prince was hardcore and straight up , liked that
Thank you for your relevant views and comments. I wonder what you think is the reason there have been no weekly videos uploaded to the Prince channel (WB?) for over two weeks?
Prince's Friend Mmmm, I can understand that they perhaps don’t want to get through the videos too quickly, but A) why on earth did they not think of that initially and B) I reckon it would be really courteous of them, for all for us out here anxiously waiting, to be enlightened with their intentions, don’t you think? I feel a bit ‘snared’ by their bait.
Agreed. They should say something but really they don’t have any channels for clear communication to the fans at this point anyway. But yeah, it went from 3 per week to 2 per week to 1 per week and now 1 every other week.
He was so much more than just sexual...his lyrics were so intertwined with so many different topics/subjects. But people get that one thing in their head, and don't want anything to do with it. I remember my father hated him....lol... 1999 was one album I loved to blast, on purpose just to piss him off a little bit...lol.
I remember when ' when dove's cry ' I hated him because that's what all the grils talked about . When I became older, I thank him , because show my sexuality is cool , and it's something we should not be uncomfortable about it , as long as you don't tresspass against them ... Thanks Prince
Some people don't understand Prince or can't handle Prince I think he's a genius. And I'm happy I knew him I miss the memories I have with him I listen to his music everyday
It wasn't just Prince's lyrics that were sexy, the man oozed sexiness and beauty like no other his whole life. He was just so damned cool and confident - oh and those eyes and that tight little body in those fabulous clothes. Add to that the unearthly talent. OMG it was just too much, it was beyond belief. I think it made some people very uncomfortable maybe with their own sexuality, and other people like me were just under a spell. MTV didn't have any black acts on their station at one time; Prince & MJ were some of the very first artists that broke that barrier.
Being super sexy was one of the reasons why I love Prince. But he also was very spiritual and sexuality was and is a part of spirituality. People that think he is dirty and not all that great, that's ok we know the truth about him. He is the greatest composer, musician, entertainer, singer, humanitarian, dancer, style king, and all around great person in modern times. As far Tipper Gore, she was just constipated and she probably got so excited herself and did not know how to deal with it!!! Love this topic, great video as always!!!
purpleflight Ok!! How can we not be a sexual being.. as well as a spiritual being? Sex is what brought us into being.. Yes? Otherwise, neither you or I would exist.. to answer these questions!! And at the same time we are also spiritual. He who created us is spirit, without form and we are his reflection in the physical. Sexuality is not just a physical thing.. it's also a mental thing and can be very powerful. Prince was this way and not afraid to express it and he understood it. And about your 19 year old relationship ending.. remember this: where one door closes another door opens.. :)
I’m late commenting on this one...didn’t get the notice🤨. Prince was and to this day....imo....the greatest lyrical, poet ever......he mastered blending sensuality, sexuality and music into something all of us who appreciate him....came to know as that part of his genius, he was really never given proper credit for....was he overly sexual? Maybe to some, he was. I could only see the art of the true genius he was....💜
Okay , another opportunity for me to babble: as we know, Prince was a very spiritual person. I studied world religion in college as well as sexuological bodywork out of college and o find there is a correlation of orgasm, emotion and spirituality. We may not fully understand this in this lifetime but ..."theres something else ....the afterworld....." as for his toning down well , with knowledge comes sorrow and i believe prince simply got older, grew up....!became more knowledgeable and aware of the correlation. Okay , i tire of my babble.....Thank you again for being here !
Rob Ganz . Ok I get orgasm emotion now I need to link the 3 together (srirituality) this is what I've lacked with strict parents then into a relationship with a weekend man for 19yrs, I'm now 45 and learnt so much more , just can't link the 3rd with the other 2 .
purpleflight well this can be lengthy but as u know emotional bonds/ties etc. then there is the liberating physical pleasure.... now there is something els.......no punn intended.....there is a spiritual exprience to orgasm. First you must be able to destinguish between release and orgasm. There is release commonly(not necessarily) during orgasm but not required. Females know this well . A friend once called the spiritual aspect a glimpse into the micro-cosmic realm. The same is like they say sleep is practice for death. Remember death is no more the end of life than birth is the beginning of life. Im sorry i fade off into tangents sometime......GRACE AND PEACE ROB GANZ empathymovie@gmail.com
Rob Ganz . Yes I understand what you are saying about 'release ' and females know it well , men or should I say the first man I was with after my relstionship was on a different level when it came to the bedroom I learnt so much , I can't explain ..as if you dont let go at that stage you would normally it would take me to a much higher different place , sometimes I became very emotional and even tears st on stage and never really knew why , I would not say it's like an out of body experience ive never experienced that before but read much , I would describe myself as experencing becoming detached from my partner and having my own experiences rather than the normal both being aware of of each others impending orgasam and trying to time it so we came at the same time , the latter being far more intense and with a sense of extreme pleasure a calmness but at the same time mentaly escalated. I'm not very good at trying to explain so I hope you understood that ? I relate to what you have said even if my answer does not make sense 😮 I think most will think all this a bit wacky me disclosing my bedroom antics ! Thankyou .
Tipper Gore listened to Prince with her daughter. Tipper liked his music, she just felt music needed a rating like movies. Prince stated in an interview that those music years were 'jusr nasty' and thats why he moved past it. Prince was Prince and he knew sex was the meal ticket. If any of those people ever paid any attention to the man when he spoke they would have known that. Everyone should go back and listen to all his interviews.....learn something about the man behind the music.
Over the years i have realized that my sexuality has a lot to do with being pretty much obsessed with Prince when i was 15. That's when i discovered his music and that's also when my sexuality really woke up. I mean, i had kinda been afraid of sex before (i don't know exactly why) but when i started listening to Prince, all of a sudden it became an exciting, fun thing. After that it started to get out of control though, and at one point i realized i had become a porn addict. Gladly i have overcome that and have a healthy relationship with my sexuality nowadays.
You made some really great points. One Correction: Tipper Gore was actually 2nd Lady (Vice President Al Gore’s wife) not 1st Lady from 1993 to 2001... It isn’t relevant at all to the points you were trying to make, but I did want to get the fact straight since you mentioned it. Anyways, Great Video. 👍🏽
I loved prince during all of his changes in his career his soft shyness on his for you album boldness of dirty mind and all the others things that made him a sexy superstar. U have to think he was young and as he grew as a musican he matured and it showed threw his albums in the 2000's he was more tame and demure 3121 great album full or love romance and religion and musicology funky fresh you can see it but when he signed back with WB he was back under playing the game that they wanted him play being conteolled and under contract and into some 3rd eye esoteric B.S BUT.... he is and always will be my favorite artist, intertainer, musican, songwriter ,poet overall musical guinness of all time
Prince in person was a very shy, kind, caring, funny, loving, romantic, and yes sexual person. I was with him briefly and we fell in love quickly. Unfortunately I told him no when he asked me to move to Minnesota with him but I said no because I didn't want anything from him, no career, no money, no noteriety, nothing. I loved Prince the man not the entertainer. I was young and afraid to just pick up and move from everything I knew. He respected me for that and made the movie Under a Cherry Moon which was about our relationship. I think Prince gets a bad rap sometimes because people don't really know Prince the man. He really is/was a great person and not some sleaze like some people make him out to be. He's a blessing and may Jehovah bless his soul.
+Vikki Waiting I have kept pretty quiet about our relationship because it was very personal and so was he. What I am telling is the complete truth, I had a friend that was present when we met. Unfortunately we are no longer friends because she became very judgemental and rather racist and I won't have that in my life. As far as Prince and I meeting, he actually followed me and then finally introduced himself and I was shocked. Things went from there. I'm not going to get into details of our lives together. I am still angry with myself for telling him no and hurting him but he still respected me for it and I tried to stay in contact with him but I moved several times and married a man that hated him and refused to let me speak to Prince. I tried to reconnect after divorcing but was unable to do so. I was planning on going to Minnesota in 2016 but I was too late. I really miss him and wish we'd had more if I hadn't been so young and unsure.
myberetta2002 wow, you lived what so many including myself have only ever dreamed of. Just remember how lucky you were to have shared that time with him and try not to dwell on the rest. Prince being who he was wouldve almost certainly written a song about you, are you aware of any? I wish you hadn’t been to late too myberetta2002 :0(. Thank you for sharing x
+Vikki Waiting He wrote many songs for me especially the songs on Parade from the movie Under a Cherry Moon. In the song Girls and Boys he even says maybe we can keep in touch in another life and time and I absolutely intend to do so. There are some words where he says I was promised to another but at the time we were together I wasn't but had just broken it off with my fiance a couple months prior. Also he says he had to leave because his pride was too strong but that's just because I had told him no about moving to Minnesota with him. In the song Kiss he said every one of those words to me, the ones about acting your shoe size had to do with me getting my friend to act like a total moron and then giggling our butts off all while we were supposed to be working. He put everything in songs and poured his heart out too. He really is a teriffic man and it's a travesty what has happened. I still am not handling it well and am down to almost 95 lbs. since his passing. I will never be able to get over it and can only wait to see him in the afterlife.
myberetta2002 wow... not sure what else to say! I knw the film and album like the back o my hand and its mind blowing to think i ma speaking to the inspiration, i hope its true. When you see him again can i come with you;0). Did Kristin Scott Thomas do good version of you? Are you also British - too nosey? Sorry. Look dont let his passing make you ill, i feel the same and so many of us do and i am sure it’s worse for you than the ones like myself who never knew him intimately (well in reality in any case lol) but he doesnt want to see you too soon, its not gods will, and i dont know why it was gods will for him to die so young and the worst of it in such an awful way but we cant change it can we? We will keep growing our family on channels like this to come together to help each other. Its truly amazing to me that i have chatted to you and i will listen to Parade and think of what you have said.... incidentally theres a review on here of Parade have you seen it? - May you live to see the dawn Myberetta xx
I got into Prince in my early teens years so his music came to me when at I time when I was getting into the opposite sex. This is one of the reasons I was checking out his music. It was almost shocking. I listened to the music even as I couldn't get into the look (bikini briefs, leg warmers, the provocative poses and later the ass out pants). I think Prince, being an obvious industry puppet for the first phase of his career, was simply playing the role his "handlers" gave him. It was either Chris Moon or Owen Husney who gave him the idea to sexualize his music so I wonder how much of the sexuality was in fact Prince, and how much of it was him playing a character. The sexual stuff, for the most part, didn't bother me, although at times, it was a bit over the top. I mean, "Sister" and incest? Really? One song that really hit me like, ok, enough already was the one of his b-sides called "Girl". I mean, he sounded totally controlled by his sexuality. I'm glad he toned it down in later years.
💖 Sometimes when a artist writes a song we may not know the real idea behind the lyrics. I heard way back than that the song " Sister " was more about Prince wanting to be like his sister or to actually be her. Another idea that I think maybe closer to the truth is the song is about wishing that this Incredible person wasn't a relative. If this wasn't my sibling I would want to date or marry that person someday. I know that after actually listening to that song it would be hard to think of it in any other way for some people, because the lyrics are so blatant but you never know with Prince.💖
It certainly helps with his sexuality (if you see it as a Positive not negative thing that is) etc being such a beautiful sexy looking man - sorry just saying!! Sorry for being so shallow there :0/
I was wondering if you saw the news about Mr. Moon selling his rights to Prince's song "Soft and wet" on Ebay and what you think about it? I kinda wish I had the money to buy it but there's no way I can do it. I wonder who it will be?
. Yes agree , would not buy anything that goes against his wishes , many say that contracts are now null and viod but is far as I belive. .what was said done etc under that contract stays that way .
Prince was all about 💕 love ❤️ love and more ❤️❤️❤️💜 love and he is sorely missed Rest easy Prince we 💕 love you this is Geraldine Walker from Saginaw Michigan
It was very in-depth, you made alot of great points. Now knowing Prince as an artist, I think this is the main reason why people passed on listening to his music and that's unfortunate. Sexuality is apart of all of us and the way he expressed his was a spiritual thing and was rather tamed imo compared to the explicit music of today. Prince said that it dealt most with human life and people lose their cool behind it which is very true. Its a controversial topic but very necessary.
I wanna be your lover, I wanna be the only one you Come for - on the radio, no less. I guess Tipper missed that one. Hehehe. I just love that part of his music - it may be my favorite. Interviews with Jamie Foxx on Prince, a documentary after he died all mention how they had to kinda sneak to listen, but they listened. There was a story about a woman who was found in the ducts behind the wall by his hotel room praying for his soul because he was the devil. 😂The cover of a magazine "would you let this man date your daughter". Somebody on here said they were "a closet fan". It was a very refreshing period because I am not a love song person per se and most RnB artists were into love. But Prince peppered the sex with great music you couldnt resist. Anyway, I get the controversy. 😋 Their loss.
Great topic and for the time, Prince was courageous pushing the envelope more than Rick James (just as reference point) and the timing of hitting with 1999 as Mtv took off. One could only imagine if the internet and mass video promotion was around during so-called controversial 'risque' artists Elvis, the Stones and Chuck Berry...Prince had become in a way the antihero to MJ. The more taboo the better. But as always time writes the appropriate history. He will be truly the modern day Mozart, albeit kinkier and a real once in a lifetime groundbreaker.
I remember thinking/wondering (at 13 years old) Darling Niki could've also been a boy. And then establishing in my mind it could refer to any gender , because it applies. And that it was about an example of human sexuality vs society/stigma. How we want/seek to put sex in the closet. But inside that closet we are all really essentially the same; needy and dirty 😇😇😇😇😇✊✌ Prince is my guru ✊
He changed his style as he got older I thought that was cool.He found God and was trying convince us to find him that's what it's really what it's about
Who the hell wouldn't listen to Prince? Prince was a legend. He defined music! So many musicians looked up to him. Millions of fans loved him, me being one of them. Your head must be up your ass if you think people think he sucks. Prince is, was and will always be bad ass!!
I would rather listen to Prince's sexual tracks than Chris Brown R kelly and Usher every musician has explicit music so I wouldn't be upset or embarassed.
I know some one has already pointed it out but Jack U Off was on Controversy album..... Dirty Mind album was the dark cult classic with Head, Sister.... etc
I had an ex who was really into Hip Hop. She thought Prince was too sexual. I always thought that funny when I hear her favorite artists talk about "bitches" and "ho's".
And that's what I was talking about earlier. I'm not going too deep on this, but when rap and hip hop artists put sex in their songs, they make it look gross, sexist, and just plain disgusting to hear especially when they use sex as a way to stardom (i.e: Nicki Minaj getting so much plastic surgery and having a huge fake butt). They try so hard to be sexual, but ended up being vulgar and nasty. I can give many examples, but at the same time I can't. It's like when a 40 something year old man or woman or one of your parents try be "cool" or "hip" to dig with the kids and or some teen boy tries so hard to be edgy and fails to make edgy jokes. That's what sex is right now in the music industry. It's making people in the rap, hip-hop community into immoral, disrespectful, vulgar quagmires. Sex is an art form and it should be and Prince made it to an art form and he's sexy without even trying. It's no wonder why I'm so attracted and so addicted to him.
Correct... and he was the former governor of TN, my home state. He later would become Vice President under Bill Clinton and ran for President against Bush Sr. in 2000 but because of a flaw in the count of Florida's electorial college votes... he sadly lost that election despite winning the popular vote as Hillary Clinton did against Trump. I've met and shook hands with Al Gore Jr. many times... I hate politics but something's definitely wrong when the nation votes and their voices are not heard. Pardon the political rant but it's the truth.
Tipper Gore was never a First Lady. She became the Second Lady when Bill Clinton became the president & that was almost a decade later after Purple Rain came out. At the time Tipper proposed the idea of warning labels on album covers was when Al was senator. Honestly one of the reasons why I don’t like Tipper Gore is b/c of her warning labels idea but thankfully now with streaming music platforms, warning labels don’t mean much anymore
I miss the old naughty days from Prince. I understand though we all age and he didn't enjoy performing those songs. That said, they were the greatest...Head, Sister, I Love U in Me...ah such wonders!
And then best part is that those older raunchy songs will be there whenever you want I hear them. Prince also never lost his sexy edge, he just kind of stopped using the language and leaned heavily in suggestiveness instead
Seems they did make him the example( PMRC) but!!!!!..Purple Rain in the end never got the sticker. If it did then it was very short lived. They discovered recordings way more sexual and violent. Probably made people curious and helped to sell it.
I am not sure you have listened to Prince's Prince, Dirty Mind or Controversy albums. There are several sexual "titled" songs "Sexy Dancer", "Dirty Mind", "Sister", "Controversy", "Sexuality", "Jack U Off". But I think that is what drew a lot of fans to his music. Similar to 2 Live Crew and their "Nasty As They Wanna Be" album. It was risqué, sexual in natural. Prince did it quite differentially than 2 Live Crew. But none the less. Prince had a song where he talked about how they came out in their underwear too. There are very few artist that didn't hint at sexuality in their music, big or small. Kind of a mute point. Still love your channel.
Sorry, I wrote this reply in the middle of watching your video. I really should wait until the video is done to write my reply :-P U do talk about Jack U Off.
About the sexual stuff in relation to Prince, you can’t be weird about sex, because your kids are gonna find out about how it works anyway. If a parent is going to have a hard time with media talking about sex or whatever it may be, then the parent has the opportunity to normalize it so then the child will normalize it. If you’re comfortable having that experience that leads to procreation or pleasure or both, then why does it have to be tabboo??? Darling Nikki itself is no where near what’s out there considered newer artist today. I still think parent advisory stickers are important, about sexual stuff maybe not, it would depend the context for that. If there’s cursing or about racism or of politics (if it’s a gross view) I could understand that. That’s kind of how I feel on that.
I loved his overt sexuality - so daring and so open and frank about it. The graphic sex ballads were perfection and the fact I learnt a lot about what men do through Prince lyrix. Sadly when the JW cloud descended he lost his sexual edge. The sex ballads like Do Me Baby, Insatiable, scandalous, when 2 r in love and sexual shockers like Sister and LPWM are eaily his greatest songs. This counters the religious crap he preached.

He was sexy AND spiritual...the perfect blend. He was sexy, (not dirty), spiritual, (not a "goody two shoes"). That is what I love about him.
Prince sucks cause he's the best, that's why.
Thank You !!
Sex is a part of life. I love the sexually charged stuff. But I also love how his lyrics grew and became more mature and it started to be about love instead of sex. I don't care what anyone says, he's the greatest ever.
Tipper Gore went after him for "Darling Nikki." Its a good thing she never heard "Sister!" KMSL!
They are wrong like you said! Prince was and will always be the BEST!
Thanks for all you do.
only available right now to channels with 10k subs. I'm about to hit half that, but i'll be there one day! :)
He had a very big appreciation for women in my opinion and yeah, even though it seems like he liked sex 😂 there was more to it than that, you just have to find it 💜
I agree. People hate and fear what they don't understand.
...or what they are jealous of
Thank U, Prince's Friend, for this excellent video.
Radical Bryan . Amen .

"Prince was too sexual"
So is every female rapper of this decade except they try too hard by thinking that acting like an awful caricature of a Barbie doll, shaking their plastic asses, and having disgusting not-so-subtle metaphors for sex and all that stuff is cool, but everyone fawns for these kinds of people.
Until Purple Rain went mega huge no 1 really cared what he was saying. With bigger fame comes more scrutiny.
I agree with you about how some people think Prince was too sexual. It's their loss.
Prince himself said he wanted to see how far he could push the envelope and that’s what he did💜
Yup!
B B Damn you did what I did but I still listen to Prince on the down low..... yup.....
The label just made kids want to buy the music even more! So thanks Tipper! You helped Prince's career skyrocket!!
TootsiesCreationz exactly.... there were ways to get the Prince music......
Prince was a breath of fresh air for me because everybody else’s singing about “love” all the time just bored me to death. LOL.. jk... Well, not really. 😈
People like what they like and maybe his sexy songs were too sexy for women who preferred songs of romance and his grunts and squeals and moans were too much for men to enjoy without feeling uncomfortable or teased by their guy friends.
Prince knew women wanted good sex as much as men, and sang accordingly. He never shamed women for it, either.
Cool eh?
Very cool!
He's just real. I was drawn to him because of his free spirit. Sexuality is natural. That's all he was saying. His early songs were not for children.
Jason Breininger yeah, 1999 was way dirter!
RnB4Sure Absolutely well stated.
I am a metal fan. I am not sure exactly how one would categorize Princes’s music, but it s completely, totally, badass.
Agreed
Charlene James . I don't think they got better over time maybe evolved still the same but reaching a higher deeper plane .
I almost ripped a guys head off in a bar once ..
He told me Mike was the best and Prince was just one of the others 😎. They had to separate us.
His mic was on.
There's Only I Prince
Why not just like both of them? That’s what I do.
James Brown said masturbation at least 5 times in Body Heat, why didn't he get slammed for it. George Clinton or Bootsie Collins didn't get slammed for their songs either
R Mm it's all because of overly religious parents who wanted to shelter their children in the 80's
R Mm and Michael Jackson had sex songs too.....
@@nonwilson5587 only Break Of Dawn and In The Closet are sexual.
Shit, that's one of the reasons he's so damn enjoyable.
He sucks because he makes guys insecure, lol.
And calling him gay as a defense mechanism. Still, they're failing.
Prince was a genius and was a greater artist and musiscan and we will always love prince
Sign o the time is his best....

What a great idea for a series. Can't wait for more.
Thanks! I have ten total planned but who knows where it’ll go from there?
They are doing bi-weekly now it seems. They likely don’t want to burn through them fast. That’s my thought.
Lmao
I love Prince! Woo woo just love him! Thanks Tipper
MTV didn't have any black acts on their station at one time; Prince & MJ were some of the very first artists that broke that barrier.
you are headed down the right path for sure.
Miki Gross . Thankyou , the only answer that I can fully understand I might start living now . X
Really enjoying your commentary.... keep it coming!
thanks much!
If someone says to me Prince sucks, I'll kick them to a curb. I don't need that negativity in my life, 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Great commentary.
Holly Piper ❤❤❤
I love prince he was a genius and he was so gifted and sexy

Im sorry i fade off into tangents sometime......GRACE AND PEACE

I relate to what you have said even if my answer does not make sense 😮
I think most will think all this a bit wacky me disclosing my bedroom antics !
Totally flubbed that, but glad you liked the rest of the video lol. More from that series is coming!
WHERE DID PRINCE GET THAT STUFF FROM MAAAAN..........HIS DADDY🧔🧔🧔🧔
Prince apparently didn't know how to pour beer from a draft. I dig me some head though man! LOL Nice topic as always, friend.
He's a blessing and may Jehovah bless his soul.
myberetta2002 who are you? Can i ask?
Remember his speech about he regretted using sex at the beginning of his career and he advised young artists not to do it
I got into Prince in my early teens years so his music came to me when at I time when I was getting into the opposite sex.
💖But it also could have been for the shock value, especially back then.💖
SPOT ON.
prince friend keep posting your videos .love them
It certainly helps with his sexuality (if you see it as a Positive not negative thing that is) etc being such a beautiful sexy looking man - sorry just saying!! Sorry for being so shallow there :0/
I was wondering if you saw the news about Mr. Moon selling his rights to Prince's song "Soft and wet" on Ebay and what you think about it? I kinda wish I had the money to buy it but there's no way I can do it. I wonder who it will be?
I saw it but I don’t think anyone will do it. It’s a lot of money, and affront to what Prince stood for in terms of ownership
Wonderful video some of my friends as I was growing up gave me those reasons y they don’t like him
I wanna be your lover, I wanna be the only one you Come for - on the radio, no less.
And a rule breaker. I still love MJ though.
To SEXY for the ladies
I remember thinking/wondering (at 13 years old) Darling Niki could've also been a boy. And then establishing in my mind it could refer to any gender , because it applies. And that it was about an example of human sexuality vs society/stigma. How we want/seek to put sex in the closet. But inside that closet we are all really essentially the same; needy and dirty 😇😇😇😇😇✊✌
Prince is my guru ✊
What's wrong with sex??
Define "too sexual."
Make love not war!
I’ll do better than just define it..... I’ll make a video about it. :-P
COMPARED TO NOW PRINCE HAD A FILTER
He changed his style as he got older I thought that was cool.He found God and was trying convince us to find him that's what it's really what it's about
Who the hell wouldn't listen to Prince? Prince was a legend. He defined music! So many musicians looked up to him. Millions of fans loved him, me being one of them. Your head must be up your ass if you think people think he sucks. Prince is, was and will always be bad ass!!
Lots of people sadly
I would rather listen to Prince's sexual tracks than Chris Brown R kelly and Usher every musician has explicit music so I wouldn't be upset or embarassed.
I know some one has already pointed it out but Jack U Off was on Controversy album..... Dirty Mind album was the dark cult classic with Head, Sister.... etc
Yep. I just misspoke.
Prince's Friend no worries not chastising just point it out but great commentary!! Keep it coming😊✌️✌️
Definitely! Cheers!
Tipper Gore was the wife of then Senator Al Gore
Correct... and he was the former governor of TN, my home state.
She will NEVER be the First Lady
Great way to get the nay sayers!!
They do not understand his music + He was onto non prescribed drugs + He was a Genius first of all, his music and the way he dressed...
@@PrincesFriend Indeed he did but I still miss him every day. Music and the world isn't the same without him...
@@PrincesFriend I love come the album version...
We are soposto change mentally and physically as we age plus circumstances and things in our Life Changes.
Agreed
Seems they did make him the example( PMRC) but!!!!!..Purple Rain in the end never got the sticker. If it did then it was very short lived. They discovered recordings way more sexual and violent. Probably made people curious and helped to sell it.
Tipper Gore was the Vice Presidents wife, and he was a senator at the time, just fyi :)
There are songs for adults that help prepare the atmosphere and set the mood for lovemaking.
These songs are not for young people but adults. .
America's Sexiest man. He sang what most people think but afraid to say. :/ He was not Offensive. Intriguing..
That's political incorrectness for ya.
I think if people like his music, they listen to it. i think people of think he is too sexual, probably did not like his music anyway.
