    It's good to remind couple facts:
    1. Miguel was unseeded. He was 14th in the ranking by then.
    2. He beat Ramy Ashour, then Omar Mosaad, then Ali Farag (no 2), Raphael Kandra on semis and finally Shorbaghy in the final, the world's no 1.
    3. First Latin American ever that reached a British open final ever.
    4. He was 32 years old, shorbaghy 27.
    5. Miguel's height is 1.70m Shorbaghy 1.85m
    6. Miguel is born and grew in Bogota, which is 2600m above the sea level. That explains his lungs stamina.
    This is one of the most inspiring and unforgettable matches ever in squash. If Miguel could do it, anyone can.

    • @triancirc
      @triancirc 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Get your info right he didnt beat Ramy or Shorbagy, Ramy had an adductor injury and was thrashing MR hard prior to it as seen from the match(search british open squash 2018 rd1). As for Shorbagy he was cramping and barely lost still. MR won all matches but beating a player is something different than just winning the match due to injury.

    • @filra2274
      @filra2274 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@triancirc All elite players carry injuries and serious exhaustion conditions along these tournaments. And that is part of the game dude. It's not Miguel's fault that Shorbagy had long 5 games matches throughout the tournament. Winning the top tournament of the year takes balls too. If you think Miguel didn't win fairly and didn't deserve the title, it's fine, it's your opinion.

      You're absolutely right in your analysis. Injuries are a part of any game and to players as are prolonged matches to reach the top of the ladder during any competition g@@filra2274

    Really happy for rodriguez .. shorbhagy was physically exhausted after the 3rd game, and tried the desperate time delaying tricks ( getting the court cleaned literally after every point ) , but in the end, rodriguez was physically in a much better shape .. shorbhagy had 3 very grueling 5 setters , and it eventually took a toll on him.. but overall it was a fantastic final and tournament , and a much deserved victory for the Cannon Ball!

    I don't understand why there is no rest day between playing days. It is ridiculous and torturous given how extremely physical squash is on the body. You need time to recover. To get better quality squash, there should always be one day off between matches. Never seen players cry and suffer in any other sport. It is clear he is unable to perform at optimal level. Elshorbaghy is a true warrior and a beast.

    • @shapes2000
      @shapes2000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Thats the point of the game, it is brutal and relentless. Most club comps are multiple matches per day. They have already shortened the matches from the 3+ hours of the 70's and early 80's.

    • @watching99134
      @watching99134 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe the ToC in New York gives a day off in-between.

    • @dweeder1453
      @dweeder1453 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For initial stages till QF. not between SF and F. They do deserve a break. Such strenuous activity release so much cortisol and Stress accumulates in the body and causes problems eventually in their lives.

    • @shapes2000
      @shapes2000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The strong will survive, the weak will drop! I loved seeing Mo dig deep, it leveled the playing field.

    • @dweeder1453
      @dweeder1453 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Must be easy for you to say, sitting on your couch or work desk and watching this video. haha. It surely did leveled the match but that is not good for players short term and long term well-being. Also, that is not the best squash viewers get to see. They should experiment with rest day between semi-final and final. There is a reason why ALL other sports have rest days. It also prolongs the longevity of their careers.

    Not the greatest quality by any means but certainly one of the most dramatic matches I’ve ever seen, with Shorbaghy gassing out fairly early and Rodriguez having a huge once in a lifetime opportunity to win major silverware as a result. I like Shorbaghy but was desperate for Rodriguez to win once I realised Shorbaghy was gassed, just because I would guess letting this opportunity slip would haunt Rodriguez for the rest of his life - Shorbaghy on the other hand is going to be amongst the GOAT regardless.
    The only letdown was the crowd booing when Shorbaghy tanked the 4th set. They clearly didn’t understand that it was smart for Mohammed to go easy after going 4-0 down, rather than give his last energy trying to get back into a set he still might not have won. The people booing can’t be serious squash players because even amateurs like me can somewhat relate to playing when you have nothing in the tank. Shorbaghy made an extremely smart tactical decision and if he had put the shot at 8-8 in the fifth above the tin, it would’ve paid off.

    Blimey. I put a comment out on another video where rodriguez lost and served consistently poorly and was shocked that his coach/es had not picked up on it. Wind forward a few weeks and hes only gone and won the British Open LOLOL!! Anyone got his coaches details, im sure im due some commission :o)) Awesome result for him and great sportsmanship at the end Mohammed. Bravo!
