      Cringed slightly there. Weird with interviews and talk shows when it's clear that the host has no relation to the person the are interviewing what so ever. If she would have taken 10-20 minutes exploring a few clips of his, this statement would not have been made.

      @@richdwayneadamdelacruz7633 Did you read your own comment? How could 4 notes in 4 different octaves be considered a 3 octave range?

    • @teilo7296
      @teilo7296 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pavelmedbery3055 For example lets say he starts singing on A0 (not sure which note he does in this clip) : between A0 and A1 there is a single octave of range. Continuing this trend, you go from A1 to A2, that's another, then A2 to A3, a third octave. Singing 4 A notes (A0;A1;A2;A3) an octave apart demonstrates a three octave range. If he can sing the 11 semitones AFTER the last A he THEN can sing in a range of 4 octaves.

    Jennifer Hudson is a genius with her extraordinary voice, intuitive, highly skilled, and enormously expressive. She doesn't rely on the language of music to live her art. Jacob Collier works within the language of music, and that's another realm of genius, where intellect sorts things out, knows the names of things, and how to put them together. It's all music and excellence is excellence. Love them both, two musicians at the top of their game.

      She meant that he sounded like a genius based on his big picture understanding and how confident he sounded in his experience exploring Harmony and voice leading to a very deep and intuitive degree in many styles from an early age which is what most musicians dream of. You might also want to consider that Jennifer Hudson seems to be emotionally intelligent enough to hear his intelligence in the way he speaks. She is very correct in that he is a genius in the way he thinks of and applies himself to music. All you have to do is listen to his albums. It doesn't take a genius to learn how to harmonize but it takes one to do it the way that Jacob does. It's cool that she could tell from just a few words.

A singer, as a term, would be incredibly limiting in its definition of what he actually does with his voice. Careful with your assumptions. I’ve been a professional songwriter and session guitarist for over 30yrs. Currently touring. Hate his singing all you want. People flood concert halls to hear him sing. Beyond all of his gifts, it’s his voice he uses the most. If you’re going to simple mindedly troll anything you could attack his lyrics. They’re certainly sophomoric. Perhaps you need to broaden your sensibilities and listen to more music. Bobby McFerrin had a similar vocal genius and capacity. If you listened primarily to pop singers you wouldn’t understand what he was doing either. Anyway, I don’t feel particularly compelled to teach a music appreciation course to strangers on TH-cam.
